Re: Major problem with Monterey installer if you use vo.

2021-10-28 Thread Brad Snyder
You'll run into the same situation if you try to set up a new Mac for the first
time. You won't be able to do anything until you connect either a mouse or
trackpad to the Mac. Once you get it set up, you can get rid of the mouse or
trackpad, but you've got to have it to get the thing going the first time.

Major problem with Monterey installer if you use vo.

2021-10-28 Thread matthew dyer
Evening Mac users. I have a Mac mini 2018 and just created a USB installer and
was able to boot from it. However, I have found a major bug that I would
consider a show stopper if uou want to do a clean install. If you do not have
a mouse or trackpad, There is a window that comes up which has a mouse image
and a trackpad image that seems to be rotating.. No amount of vo shift space
or any other keystroke will make it go away. Has anyone else ran into thisI
intend to report this to apple accessibility, but wanted to see if anyone else
had this problem and found a work around. I think I have an old track pad
around somewhere, but it needs batteries as this is an older one from an older
iMac which I no longer have.

Thanks.

Matthew

Re: A New Mac Mini

2021-10-28 Thread Brad Snyder
Regardless of how you have your keyboard preferences set, the Fn key is not
required when doing CMD plus F5 to start VoiceOver.
It has been that way for a long time.

Re: A New Mac Mini

2021-10-28 Thread Brad Snyder
Try connecting a mouse or trackpad. Even though you don't need one, I believe
the Mac will require it.
I recently set up a new 24 inch M1 iMac for someone, and the computer wouldn't
do a thing until I connected a mouse to it.
Once you get through the initial set up, you can get rid of the mouse or
trackpad. The Mac only requires it at the very beginning.

YouTube Command to Play ?

Voiceover mentions a keyboard command to play a youtube video which I can
not catch. May I know what is that, please?

I think it says something like plus-k but I'm not sure, could someone remind

Thanksf!

RE: A New Mac Mini

2021-10-28 Thread Rebecca Skipper
Well, I am not sure since I do not have a Mini.

However, a monitor or dongle might be needed.

Does your friend have a TV.

If the right ports are available, maybe that can be used as a monitor just to
get through setup.

possible that the cmd and option keys are reversed. So, you’d press option-f5

Re: Keyboard trap in Monterey and possibly Big Sur

2021-10-28 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Restarting at that point should not be an issue. I understand about it making
you nervous, but if it is to the point of asking for permission for a item to
have access to a service, then the upgrade has more than likely completed. I
suspect that during the Setup Assistant process, it did a poll for devices,
noticed that there is no mouse attached, and figured it should wait for you to
attach one. Normally, this shouldn’t happen, but things often behave slightly
different during setup.

2021-10-28 Thread Doug Lee
I did an update; and I did try VO-Shift-Space but that didn't help. My ultimate
solution was to use ssh to restart the Mini, even though this made me nervous.
When it came back up, neither the Setup
Assistant nor the System Dialog about VoiceOver trying to use BlueTooth
appeared; so all is well.

I still regard that situation from yesterday as a very nasty edge case for a
blind Mac user.

I think Monterey is the first OS on Mac to offer this feature directly.

The key difference between Intel and Apple Silicon in this regard is in the
speed of recognition. I think it will be much faster on Apple silicon. That is
because it is much faster and much responsive on iPhone 10s compared. To my MBP.

Re: Possible bug in notification center.

2021-10-28 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

When working within the Notification Centre, use the following VO navigation
methods for best results:

• VO-o to toggle focus in and out of the Notification Centre.
• Interact with the Notifications table to see the list of notifications.
• if the notification is announced as “stacked”, then use VO-space on the stack
to expand it. Note, I have seen things get stuck here on occasion. To
workaround this, press VO-o to go out of the Notification Center and VO-o to
come back. It should be more usable then.
• You can use VO-space to open a single notification in its native app.
• Use the “Actions” command to act on individual notifications. The “Actions”
command is VO-cmd-space.
• on a stacked notification, when pressing VO-cmd-space, you can clear all or
do various actions specific to the app. For example, if you VO-cmd-space on a
Calendar notification, you can Snooze it, Press it to open the Calendar app and
more.

The biggest thing here is the use of the Actions command. Using this VO action
helps your interaction with the Notification Centre hugely.

Thanks!
