MSWord File In Email Attachment?

2022-03-16 Thread Fazil M.
Hi, Group.

I received an MSWord file as an email attachment. I saved it in Download
folder and found it there too.

When I try to open this Word file, Voiceover takes it to Pages App and
wanted to convert it in Page format.

How would I read this file if I let it be converted in Page format and be
saved there?

I have never used Page before.

Thank you very much and I do appreciate for your help.

Re: Strange Results When Trying to Open Additional Text Files

2022-03-16 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Brad,
Those items are not in the textedit view menu. For the open dialog, I did find
after pressing command-O in textedit that there is a menu button labeled:
"Change the item grouping (hold down Option to change the sort)" next to the
"list" menu button. If you VO-Space on button, the first option is "none" which
should is probably what is wanted.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: Braille Displays

2022-03-16 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
I have a Focus 5th generation display too. I’ve also used a Baum SuperVario 40
display with Mac OS, but the display eventually developed a hardware problem –
not surprisingly, as I bought it in 2005 or so, and it lasted a long time with
only one cleaning and servicing, as I recall. I don’t know what the hardware
problem is, and it may be fixable.

where do you see: "main"? is it after the video has loaded?

Hi,

The toggle for cursor tracking is VO-shift-f3. It should say “Cursor tracking
on” or “Cursor tracking off”. If it does not, you may need to add the FN key.

Re: Strange Results When Trying to Open Additional Text Files

2022-03-16 Thread Brad Snyder
Actually, it sounds like you were in a list view with sort by date added and
categories enabled. Try going to the view menu in the menu bar, and turning off
categories now, the category headings will be gone, and your files will be
sorted by date added. If you don't want this sort mode, you can pick another
one such as file name if that's what you wish.

HTH.

Before you decide you're not interested in the 13 Pro because you feel
you don't need the better camera, keep in mind that along with the better
camera on the 13 Pro, comes LIDAR, which is the ability to use the camera
to judge distance. The feature can be very helpful for blind envision
impaired users. While apps that use LIDAR are somewhat limited right
now, some of the features are very helpful. One of the useful features of
LIDAR is the ability to help you with social distancing. The feature is
built-in to the Magnifier app, and is is easily enabled from the home
screen or even the lock screen using a four finger triple tap.
Two other apps I can think of off the top of my head that currently use
LIDAR, are Microsoft Seeing AI, and SuperSense.

Upgrading from my iPhone XR, I’m narrowing things down between the iPhone
13 and the 13 mini. I don’t need any of the features of the 13 Pro as it
seems mostly camera enriched. And, I took a look at the iPhone SE third
generation and it’s just too far of a step backward even though the price
is right. So, between the 13 and a 13 minute I’m wondering what my real
impacts would be. I’m used to the form factor of the 10 hour, similar to
the 13, but I’m wondering about the 13 mini. What am I giving up exactly
by moving to the mini other than form factor. I know that speaker fidelity
will take a hit and the battery life is a little less, but other than that
they seem to be about the same product. Any thoughts? I’m about to pull
the trigger and this is what it’s come down to for final decisions.

Stopping JavaScript.

2022-03-16 Thread Jonathan Cohn
There are a few sites that behave much better for me when JavaScript is
disabled. Currently, I use developer tools and toggle this with
command-shift-option-J and then refreshing the screen.
It seems it would be fairly easy to create a Safari extension to do this, and I
believe at least one competing browser has a way to block JavaScript for
specific obnoxious sites.
Does anybody use a feature like this?
Thanks!

Strange Results When Trying to Open Additional Text Files

2022-03-16 Thread Bill Gallik
I’m experiencing a strange phenomenon using TextEdit. I have a number of files
that contain my various signature tags, one file per tag. I also have one
“Master” file that contains nothing more than the first several lines of my
signature tags. When I find a clever or interesting phrase that I’d like to
deploy as a signature tag, I open TextEdit and place that phrase or sentence(s)
in the file. While still in the specific signature tag file, I open the master
signature file to grab those top few lines so that all signature tags begin
with a common form.

This worked quite nicely until yesterday; now when I attempt to additionally
open the master file I encounter a quite strange menu referring to time
increments (i.e., today, week, month, prior month, prior month, etc. and then
the years in descending order. All I want to do is to open the master
signature tag file so I can copy those top few lines and add them to the new
signature file so that all my signature tags include the blank line, row of
asterisks and my name line.

What the heck is going on?

Can this be reversed?

TIA

Re: Getting Voiceover to Speak at Logon Screen

2022-03-16 Thread 'Harry Bell' via MacVisionaries
On my M1 MacBook Pro yesterday I set up VoiceOver to start at the login screen
all over again. When it restarted, VoiceOver worked fine. Today VoiceOver did
not start at the login screen so I was very glad to have the hint to tap twice
on the touchpad! That did work!
