Syncing Messages Across Devices

2022-10-12 Thread Bill Gallik
I’m running into an issue with the Messages app where messages on all my
devices (Mac Mini, iPhone SE, iPhone 8, iPhone 6) when I compose and send said
messages. This is fine, but when I delete a message or message conversation on
my iPhones they are not removed from the Mac Mini.

Can anybody suggest where I might change this so messages are completely
synchronized across ALL devices?

RE: I need an accessible thermostat

2022-10-12 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
Well, I narrowed down to the Sensi and the Amazon Smart Thermostat.

Almost went for the Sensi, but there were a lot of complaints about difficulty
connecting to routers. Not sure if it was lack of knowledge or if we have an
issue with the device. I figure I can start out cheap and upgrade later.

Hi, I actually just went through this process. I chose the Emerson Sensi ST55.
It is a smart thermostat that will connect to Alexa and home kit. I decided on
this model because of the favorable reviews and it has physical buttons. I’m
hoping it is the best of both worlds.

Yes, you can control it via the iOS app. Some buttons are labled weirdly, but
useable. I have found the scheduling to be a little challenging, but I think
I’ll be able to do it. Honestly though, I like the simplicity of changing my
temp on the fly. Here is a link that describes the commands you can use with
Amazon Alexa for the thermostat.

Actually, it's not your Wi-Fi. That is the issue, it is your poor Internet
service.

Where I live, I have very good fiber, Internet service, that rarely goes out,
so this has really never been an issue for me. whenever there is a loss of
connectivity, my wife is able to access the thermostat through the touchscreen
interface on the unit. I believe this would be the case with any smart
thermostat, unless, of course, you find one with an internal voice interface.

Not sure about accessing the thermostat using Siri, but the thermostat does
support connection via Amazon Alexa enabled devices, so I've never bothered to
do this. I find the Honeywell total comfort connect iOS app does all I needed
to do.

I have the Nest 3 and have no issues with it. When it goes down, it's
quite easy to pull it off the wall, wait a few minutes and reseat it at
which point it auto restarts.

The Nest 3 runs on two triple AAA batteries, unlike older Nest systems.

Were I buying today, I would also look at Honeywell. I, personally,
would not want the Ecobee because it doesn't support IPv6.

RE: I need an accessible thermostat

2022-10-12 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
I’ve narrowed to the Ecobeee, Amazon smart Thermostat, or a Sensi. Sensi has
buttons and no touch screen. Amazon smart thermostat is $40 and runs with Alexa
app. No skills to enable.

Brad,

How is it that you continue to have access to the thermostat when your wifi
goes out? I live in a rural area, and we have the worst wifi in the world, so
if you can really do that, it would be a huge motivator to switch. Also, can
you control the Honeywell thermostat with Siri?

there are several models to choose from. I have the RTH9585. It is available
from Amazon and Home Depot. Honeywell was recommended by my HVAC company, who
strongly advised against getting the Nest thermostat.

I have been using this thermostat and the iOS app for about 7 years, and highly
recommend it to anyone needing an accessible thermostat. It will do all the
things you asked about in your post.

For the Ecobee owners, Can you adjust if the wifi goes down?

Also, is there an auto setting for heat/cool so once the temp reaches a certain

you want to open windows?

The easiest option would be to either extend the wake time of your mac or
disable the sleep function. I have heard of this happening to others as well.

Text Edit on after Mac sleeps

2022-10-12 Thread Traci Duncan
Hey all, I am finding when I use TextEdit and I step away for a minute, my Mac
may go to the LockScreen. When I come back and unlock it, VoiceOver will not
read inside the text and a document. I need to turn VoiceOver off and on again.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Anything I can do about it?

Thank you,
Tracy

Re: I need an accessible thermostat

2022-10-12 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi Sarai,

I have used both Nest and Ecobee. Honestly, the nest was much easier to use.
The Ecobee has gotten better, but it takes several taps if you want to change a
setting from within the app. I would say that the nest app is more user
friendly than the Ecobee app. However, a huge plus for the Ecobee is that you
can change mode and temperature with Siri. That’s what I usually do.

Now to your questions, with either one, you’re just out of luck if your WIFI
goes down. Again, the nest has a slight advantage because it has a round dial
that you can turn up or down, so you can still adjust the temperature. The
Ecobee units are just a smooth touch surface, So there’s absolutely nothing you
can do if the wifi goes down.

Yes, both thermostats have an auto mode that will heat or cool as needed. I’ve
never used it, so can’t say much beyond that.

You can set the Ecobee thermostat to off—and then back to whatever mode you
want—using Siri when you want to open and close the windows. I think that with
nest I could also do it, but I had to do it in the app.

One other thing I’ll add is that setting up the sleep schedule was easier with
the Ecobee than it was on the Nest. However, I haven’t used the Nest for a
little over a year, so that could have changed.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: I need an accessible thermostat

2022-10-12 Thread Bradford Snyder
I have a Honeywell Total Comfort Connect thermostat. The unit is completely
accessible through the iOS app,
there are several models to choose from.

Also, is there an auto setting for heat/cool so once the temp reaches a certain
degree heat or air will automatically come on? Can you turn off the system if
you want to open windows?

I need an accessible thermostat

2022-10-12 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
I have to replace my hvac downstairs. I need an accessible thermostat. HVAC
company recommends the Ecobee. Says they have had less issues with this
brand over NEST.

So I see Amazon has the 2022 version on their site.

For the Ecobee owners, Can you adjust if the wifi goes down?

Also, is there an auto setting for heat/cool so once the temp reaches a
certain degree heat or air will automatically come on? Can you turn off the
system if you want to open windows?
