iBooks Newbie Question: How to scroll? Continuous reading?

2022-10-21 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Hi All:
In iBooks I get the opening line, but cant's seem to scroll the actual content.

It imagine there's a way to scroll, perhaps even move by word and
character. What about continuous reading--which I expect is just some
kind of timed auto scrolling? That would be the best in some situations
and I expect I'd use it a lot.

Lastly, is there any intelligence in the iBooks user agent for handling
notes? Whether footnotes, or in line notes? Sometimes I'd like to see
them. Other times, I'd like to auto-skip them; but hearing some kind of
audio sonicon to indicate one exists would be very helpful.

We scoped this kind of ebook requirement during the development of
ANSI/NISO Z39-86 back in the late 1990s. I'm still not seeing it on any
player, and that has me upset. 25 years is a long time to wait for a
feature like this that's so important in academic reading.

Thanks for any pointers.

Janina

Re: The way vo reads a website

2022-10-21 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Probably not. You could try telling VOiceOver to only navigate graphics with
labels, but I believe this is the default.

Re: How to access on my Mac mail boxes in Monterery Monterery 12.6

2022-10-21 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,
Actually command 1 brings you to your first favorite mailbox which is usually
“All Inboxes”. A more reliable way right now is to use the Item Chooser.
Press VO-I for the item chooser and then type “my” this should reduce the item
chooser to just those items that have the word “my” and the first of those for
me was “On My Mac”.
Now press enter to select the item in the item chooser.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

2022-10-21 Thread Janet Ingber
Hi Paul,

Try typing Command-1. That should bring you to the list of your mailboxes.
If somehow it brings you to your list of messages, use VO-J to get back to the
mailboxes. Once in the list, try typing the first couple of letters for the
mailbox you want.. If that doesn’t work, type the letter O. This should bring
you to the list of mailboxes under On My Mac.

Hope this helps.

The way vo reads a website

2022-10-21 Thread Lorie McCloud
I’m using this site where all the links have these long strings of letters and
numbers in them and then the label is read. I think all that stuff in the
beginning is an image and it’s good that they have labels too. My question is:
is there any way to have vo skip or ignore all that other stuff and just read
the labels? I suppose it might be just the way the site is constructed. I’d be
glad to show it to you but it’s one of those things you have to sign into with
a username and password.

thanks.

Hmm. Now that you say that, I’ve seen it. But there was nothing for this
particular message. I wonder if it was because the watch didn’t know what I
might want to respond? It was one of those Please confirm your appt messages.
So all I needed was a yes. You would think that would have been there.

How to access on my Mac mail boxes in Monterery Monterery 12.6

2022-10-21 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I recently upgraded my 2018 iMac to Mac/OS 12.6. Before upgrading I was able to
see a list of all my mail boxes including those which are only on my Mac. I
used Control+Option+j to move between the list of mail boxes and the mail items
in the selected mail box. Since the upgrade I can no longer see any mail boxes
which are on my Mac, but I can still move mail to these local mail boxes.
How can I now access the 30 or so local mail boxes? Do I somehow need to
rebuild mail and if so how do I do that?
Many thanks … Paul Hopewell
