Shortcut for next and previous message.

2024-02-15 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Morning everyone on here!

Well it's that time in the UK anyway.

Can I ask is there a shortcut in the native mail app on the mac for next and
previous message, when an Email is actually open?

I'm not asking for myself, although it would be good to know, but for my friend
who isn't a member Chris Graham in Australia.

Thanks very much, look forward to any responses!

Show folder in tabs not working.

2023-10-07 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Hi everyone!

I wonder if anyone on here can duplicate this strange problem.

I'm trying to get my finder folders to show up in tabs instead of new windows
to make it easier to manage.
But even though this box is ticked in the general part of the finder settings,
it will not take it on board!

I've even tried unticking it, restarting the mac, then going into the finder
settings and re-ticking the box.
This doesn't make any difference.

Running the most recent Mac OS Sonoma.

Is my operating system corrupted somehow? Or does Apple know about this and is
working on a fix.

If anyone on here can reproduce this let me know!

Look forward to any responses!

Query regarding music on the Mac.

2022-10-14 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Good evening everyone on here.
Well it's that time in the UK anyway.

Please can anyone tell me where does music need to go in order for it to be
transferred to the iPhone?

To be clear, I don't mean music you have purchased from the iTunes store, but
music you have got on an external HD or copied from that over to your Mac into
say the Music folder.

This is what I have done with my Gary's music, copied it from my external HD
into the Music folder on the Mac.

In the Music folder there is an iTunes folder, then in here is an iTunes media
folder.

I hope this Email makes sense as to what I'm asking.

Also before I sign off, after connecting my iPhone to the Mac, I can't find it
in the finder.
Where do you go in order to locate it?

Many thanks, I look forward to any responses.

Re: Google Drive

2022-09-12 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Hi Lorie.
Are you trying to share a file or folder?
Both me and Chris Graham in Australia use Google drive all the time now.
If you go past the copy link option, you should see share via Google Drive.
It's worded something like that anyway.
When your in that window, just add the Email address of the person your sharing
the item with.
Then all you have to do is hit send.

Don't worry about links or anything like that, Google drive takes care of that.
But for that share option to show up, you need to have the Google drive app
open on your Mac.

Anyway hope this helps, if you get stuck feel free to get in touch.

Help with the Mac book .

2022-09-11 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Good afternoon everyone on here.

Please can anyone on here help.

This query isn't for me, but for my friend Chris Graham in Australia.
He isn't a member of this group, so this is why I'm asking on his behalf.

On his Mac book M1, when he is using it if he leaves it alone for not very long
at all the screen goes black as if it has gone to sleep.
All VoiceOver says is application .

To be clear, this is not a screen saver, as I managed to find the tick box for
this for him, he has unticked this and it is still doing it.

I know what VoiceOver says as he has got What;sApp on the Mac and it does it
during his messages.
To come out of this state, he has got to press a key on the keyboard.

He has done all sorts of Google searches and YouTube searches, all he can find
on YouTube is something about Energy saver preferences.

Well both me and Chris have looked everywhere in System preferences, there is
no energy saver button what so ever!

I managed to find something in the battery part, turn display off after.
But I tried to set this to never, when I close the preferences window, it
resets to 60%.

We believe this is what needs to be changed, this slider needs to be set to
zero.
So please if anyone knows how to turn this annoying state off, can you let me
know as we are both completely out of ideas!

Also, before I sign off he has bought a clipboard manager called Copy clip two.
He wants to turn on a feature called Direct paste.

Well where are the app preferences located?
This is not the app store preferences, I am talking about the app specific
preferences where you can control what apps can and can't do.

Many thanks, I look forward to any responses!

This isn't for me, this is for my friend in Australia who is trying to do this

Both him and me have looked everywhere in System preferences and can't find

So please if anyone knows please advise.

Help with Mac book M1.

2022-01-29 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Good morning everyone!

Please can anyone on here help?
My friend in Australia Chris Graham has bought a Mac book M1 to go along side
his Mac book Pro.

Now I should say at this point that this was purchased directly from Apple, so
their is only one user account on the machine.

Every single time he tries to do an operating system update, even though his
account is an administrator one, the following message keeps been displayed.

Critical alert image. You must be an owner to install updates. OK button.

So what he had to do the first time this happend was create a time machine
backup of his Mac book Pro configuration, then using the recovery part of the
M1 copy that time machine backup over.

Everything was working absolutely fine until the second operating system
update, during which he experienced the exact same drama with that owner
message.

But then, when he tried to do the time machine backup part again using the
recovery, it wanted a restore source. It had somehow got linked to the Mac book
Pro.

But now, here's where the real drama starts.

Following the most recent operating system update, again that stupid owner
message.
But now using the recovery part, he can't even get access to the time machine
backup what so ever!

When he tries to do this, it says use migration assistant to transfer data to
this mac.
During the install of the operating system, after staying at 100% for
absolutely ages, the following screen keeps been displayed. This is taken from
a photograph.

Manually Reformatted Disk Detected To protect the security of this Mac, it must
be rebooted to macOS Recovery and have its security policy re-established.
Reboot and recover now to erase all content and settings, and prepare this Mac
to be set up securely. If you have already transferred data to this Mac, you
can shut down now and manually start recovery after you have transferred your
data to another disk. Erase and Recover Shut Down.

So to try and get round this, he has tried a re-install of the operating system
three times, exactly the same screen.

So he went to the extreme of completely erasing the SSD drive on the Mac and
installing a brand new copy.
Again absolutely no joy, this exact same screen.

So he has tried going to the Safari webpage listed in the recovery part.
This is an absolute nightmare, totally unnavigable! VoiceOver keeps bouncing
all over the place.

Please please can someone come up with some ideas, as he is literally pulling
his hair out!--

Query regarding FaceTime and VoiceOver on MacOS Big Sur.

2021-04-13 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Good afternoon everyone!

Has anyone noticed a problem with VoiceOver and FaceTime on MacOS Big Sur? or
on the Mac in general?

I'm currently talking to my friend in Australia.
I've had to answer it on my iPhone because when I tried to answer it on my Mac
book Pro, all I kept getting is FaceTime has no windows.
But then when I tried to answer it when he tried to phone me back, I tried the
notification method by VoiceOver and the letter N.
All I got was no notifications available.

Also, has anyone noticed when you try and search for a contact, all VoiceOver
says is Search results empty table.

Query regarding Mail in MacOS Big sur.

2021-02-20 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Morning everyone!

Please has anyone on here noticed something really annoying in Mail on MacOS
Big sur.
VoiceOver has started saying Column one then a certain row number.
Is there any way of stopping this?

I've tried looking in VoiceOver utility under verbossity which my friend
Christopher Hallsworth suggested. I tried unchecking speak column slash row in
table headers or something like that wording, this didn't make a difference.
Thanks very much.

Re: Concept of Start-Stop Interacting?

2020-12-09 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Hi Fazil.
The way I can best try and explain this concept is think of a door.
So if you encounter a toolbar, VoiceOver will stay focused on it but not be
able to access it.
This is where interaction comes into play.
So when you interact with the toolbar, then you can see all the controls.

But then unless you stop interacting with the toolbar, in other words close the
door you won't be able to resume what you were doing.
To be honest this is a really difficult concept to try and explain in words.
When I got my first mac off a friend, it took me ages to get the concept.
But to be honest because of the way I've got my VoiceOver setup I don't need to
do it much now.
If you need any more help feel free to get in touch with the group.
Hopefully someone will come up with a better explanation.
But like I say it is really difficult to put into words.

Query regarding iPhone 5s for a friend.

2020-10-04 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Morning everyone!
Please can anyone come up with any ideas.
I've let a friend of mine have my old iPhone 5s.
He wants to get a new iPhone though, the SE 2020.
But obviously he wants to back everything up first.
But this is where the problem and query comes into play.
He has his own apple ID and he has the basic 5GB iCloud storage.

He has all the latest operating system updates.

When he goes into iCloud under his apple ID, he tries to turn on backup as this
is off.
When he does this though, the familiar message about syncing to iTunes comes
up. I've told him to disregard that.

But when he clicks OK he is then receiving the following strange message.
iCloud backup failed.
There was a problem enabling iCloud backup. OK button.

Obviously using VoiceOver as he is blind.

Please has anyone on here ever seen this message?
Christopher Hallsworth has suggested signing out and back in again.

Thanks very much, I look forward to any responses!

2020-07-05 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Yo everyone!

Please can anyone come up with any ideas.
My friend in Australia Chris Graham is trying to share a couple of files using
Dropbox on the Mac.
He has put them in the root of the public folder which he has given me
permission to access.
But I'm having to try and download them on the dropbox website.
They are not showing up though.

But here's the really strange thing.
He has got the latest version of Dropbox for Mac.
He can't find it in his applications folder, nor is the Dropbox icon showing up
in the menu extra thing where your battery and things like that is.

Anyone got any ideas on how he can sort this out?

Thanks very much, I look forward to any responses.

Question regarding the Doc on Mac.

2020-06-27 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Yo everyone!
This is Gary here.

Please can anyone tell me if they have noticed something strange recently.
I'm talking to my friend in Australia, he has noticed something strange with
the Doc on Mac.

When he goes to say Downloads, when he presses Enter a menu comes up on the
screen, but VoiceOver wont speak anything and the keyboard is totally
nresponsive.

I know this because he has a little bit of sight.

I've just tried this on my Mac and I can duplicate the exact same thing.

This is since updating to the latest Mac operating system of catalina.
 10.155

thanks very much!
I look forward to any responses!

Re: Question about drop box

2020-06-18 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Hi Rina.
Dropbox should be in your applications folder, which you access with command
plus shift and A.
Just highlight it and press command backspace.
If your using VoiceOver it should say something like move to trash.
But it might come up with an administrator message, I'm not sure on that though.
Why do you need to remove it anyway?

Query regarding iPhone.

2020-06-12 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Afternoon everyone!

Now this query isn't for me, I'm trying to help someone out who is new to
iPhone.

Please can anyone come up with any ideas on how to get out of this.

He has managed to get VoiceOver working.
But it took some doing to get it in English.

So now he is on a page where it says Hello in different languages as a heading,
then the IMEI and SN numbers.
Then a more info button.

Please where does he need to go from here?
He hasn't got the phone setup yet.

I think it's an iPhone8.

Thanks very much, hope this query makes sense.

Command for sidebar in latest Mac operating system?

2019-12-26 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Hi everyone!

Please could someone tell me the command for the sidebar in the latest Mac
operating system Catalina?
This information isn't for me, it's for my friend Chris Graham in Australia.
Although it might come in handy to know as well.

He has done a search in Google, the result says command plus option and the
letter S.
But this will not work.
I've tried it tonight and all I get is the thump with VoiceOver.
You know that little Chord sound.
He needs this because he's trying to set the iPhone11 pro up.

Delete text with VoiceOver in Catalina.

2019-11-13 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Hi everyone!

I've recently upgraded to Mac OS Catalina.
I've noticed a possible serious bug with VoiceOver.
When typing text into messages for example, VoiceOver says absolutely nothing
when pressing the Backspace key.
But it worked absolutely fine in Mojave.

I've just noticed something interesting it works fine in Mail.

Has anyone on here noticed this?
I have submitted a comment to Applevis, but had no response yet.

Thanks very much, I look forward to any responses.

Selecting non contiguous files with VoiceOver?

2019-10-14 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Morning everyone!
Please can someone tell me how to select non contiguous files on the Mac using
VoiceOver?
I'm asking for a friend who wants to send me some books, but wants to do a non
contiguous selection.

Before I sign off, has anyone on here installed Catalina yet? If yes what is it
like?
See my Mac is low on power and I know when I plug it in I might get the update.

Update on iPhone problem and computer.

2019-07-26 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Evening everyone!
Just a quick update on my iPhone and computer issue.
Christopher Hallsworth suggested I reset my network settings on the iPhone
after I came up with the idea of my computers not been trusted.

Well done this and it's fixed it.
The first time I plugged it in it gave the rhythmic vibration. But after
unplugging it and re-connecting it, VoiceOver said something about accessories.
Unlock iPhone to use accessories.

So it looks like this has sorted it.

Problem with iPhone 7 and computer.

2019-07-25 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Morning everyone!
Please can I have some advice.
Recently I've noticed something really strange with my iPhone 7 and computers.
Both my Mac book pro and desktop computer.

When I connect my phone it's meant to charge correct. Well instead of doing
this it is doing a rhythmic vibration.

I have been in touch with Apple support yesterday and they are not sure if it
is my phone or my cable.

But see here's the issue.
We don't have an Apple store over here in Bolton.
The nearist one is either in the Trafford centre or Arndale centre both of
which ar located in Manchester.

But see my Brother Neil now has a little girl to think about coming up to three
next month, the fourth.

So he might not be able to take me down there.
Apple support have sent me a link for them to give me a call with all the case
details already in front of the person.

Please what should I do now?
Any advice or help would be appreciated!
Thanks all, I look forward to any responses.

Through Apple support I found out that this rhythmic vibration means it's
connecting then disccnecting.

Problem with iCloud backup.

2019-02-04 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Hi everyone!

Please can someone possibly help me out.
I hope I'm allowed to post this, as it isn't Mac related.
Recently I went into iCloud backup on my iPhone7.
It says that the last backup could not be completed.
My last successful backup was on the 28th of January.

But here's the problem. I can't delete my backup data and start again, because
this option has completely vanished!

I have even turned off iCloud backup but all it says when I do this is stop
iCloud backup.
The only option I've got under the storage part manage storage is a button
after most of my apps labelled show all apps.

Yes I am connected to my home Wi-fi network.
But my iPhone 7 will not backup at all.
All I get when I double tap backup now is cancel backup, then VoiceOver just
returns to that point, backup now.

Thanks very much, any ideas/help would be appreciated!
If anyone else can duplicate, please let me know.

Look forward to any responses.

Strange problem with VoiceOver and FaceTime. Can anyone else duplicate?

2019-01-06 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Hello everyone.

Sorry for the long subject.

Can anyone else duplicate the following using the latest version of Mojave.
Using FaceTime and VoiceOver, if you enter a name into the search part of
FaceTime, you can arrow up and down to get to the desired contact.
But then if you VO right arrow, it says the following things at my end.
Empty dimmed collection. Then after this it says Search results empty table.
What the heck is going on? Am I going mad? Or have Apple broken something.

Please any responses appreciated.
Thanks very much.
Look forward to hopefully someone getting back.

Question regarding re-installing the Mac.

2018-12-02 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Morning everyone!

This query isn't for me, but for my friend located in Australia.

Twice now he has tried to use Bootcamp on his Mac.
Twice now he's got into a situation where Bootcamp won't even load.
He has the same Mac book as me, early 2015.

Please does anyone know of a way where the Mac can be completely re-installed
with everything wiped?

See from Mojave, it appears that Apple have changed the install procedure, so
it wont reset everything.

He has tried Command plus R and used the re-install option.
This won't do anything and his Mac is exactly the same as before, with a
Windows operating system that's unbootable.
He has heard somewhere about another key combination, command plus R plus P
then powering the Mac up.
Is this worth a shot?

Please any help would be appreciated, as both me and my friend are at a loss as
what to do next.
And to top it all off, it says in Disk utility bootcamp locked.

And he can't even use that app to remove it.
Whenever he launches it, and clicks continue, it's coming up with the following
message.
I can't remember the exact wording, but it's something like this.
The disk cannot be restored to a single partition.
The startup disk needs to be formatted as Mac Os Extended Journaled.
Like I say that's not the exact wording, but it's something to that affect.

Please any help would be welcomed.

Thanks very much, I look forward to hopefully some responses.
