dropbox client accessibility with vo?

2009-11-18 Thread Arthur Pirika
hi, I know this was brought up recently, but how do you get to the
preferences for the application, and how does one check the status of
dropbox operations? Also, where's the dropbox folder stored on the local
system?

thanks,
Arthur.

SPEECH PROGRAM FOR MAC?

2009-07-07 Thread Arthur Pirika

HI, ALL. i CAME ACROSS A PROGRAM ON WINDOWS CALLED J TALK, THAT SIMPLY
ECHOED LINES OF TEXT TO A SAPI SYNTH. i GUESS A PROGRAM LIKE THIS WOULD BE
EASY TO WRITE ON THE MAC? YOU WOULD JUST HAVE A TEXT BOX WHERE YOU TYPE A
MESSAGE TO BE SPOKEN, AND MAYBE SOME BUTTONS WITH PRE-DEFINED PHRASES SUCH
AS YES, NO, THANK YOU, ETC.

THANKS,
aRTHUR.

college, video game music, and the mac?

2009-05-26 Thread Arthur Pirika

Hi all, a couple of questions, from someone who's seriously thinking of
getting rid of a three-year old toshiba laptop, and entering the world of
mac, finally. I've had a lot of experience already with the platform, thanks
to friends, but now I want to make the switch for myself, but, before i do,
a couple of questions. First, what programs would be good for someone in
college, where mostly word processing, and some spreadsheets are used? I
guess either iwork, or open office is the way to go, here.
Second, I'm a big fan of several different music formats, many covering old
formats like .mod, and game music formats like .nsf, .spc, etc. I know many
people favour just itunes and quicktime, but I guess what I'm after is a
multi-format player like winamp on the mac. Any suggestions for good,
accessible players? Also, on the othre side, what's a good way to compose
music on the mac? looking forward to hering from you, and making the switch,
finally.

thanks,
Arthur.

Adding e-mail addresses in address book?

2009-05-25 Thread Arthur Pirika

hi, the subject pretty much says it all. When i go to add addresses, I
interact with thhe scroll area for a card, and can see first name, last
name, company, etc, and a bunch of popup buttons. But no field for e-mail.
What do i do to add the field?

thanks,
Arthur.

vo and twitterific

2009-05-21 Thread Arthur Pirika

Hi, all, I have an interesting problem with twitterific. When I run the
program, it loads just fine, and asks for twitter name and password, which I
entered. how, it now only comes up with a configure button, an image and a
quit button. Nowhere for sending a tweet, or a table, or list of tweets.
Also, when i bring up the menu with vo-m, it brings up the menu for finer,
and not twitterific. Any suggestions?

thanks,
Arthur.

Strange vo problem

2009-05-19 Thread Arthur Pirika

hi, I'm helping out a friend, and just yesterday, we noticed that while vo
was working for the most part, it wasn't seeming to be tracking the cursor
in finder with the standard arrow keys. vo keys, specifically using numpad
commander worked just fine. All the defaults were set for the various cursor
tracking options, and other tables, such as those found in adium or the vo
utility are working just fine, it's only the view of files in finder that's
not working right. Any suggestions here, maybe a varify/repair disk
permissions cycle? And, can this be done from the disk utility on the
running system, or do we have to pull out the installation dvd?

thanks,
Arthur.

webkit vs. safari beta?

2009-04-14 Thread Arthur Pirika

hi all, I'm helping a friend with her new mac, and I'm noticing that
seemingly in some cases, when downloading disk images, the machine seems to
freeze. My friend still uses safari 3.1 that came with the system, so the
question is, would upgrading either safari or webkit solve the problem, and
what would people recommend, safari 4 beta, or latest nightly webkit build?

thanks,
Arthur.
