Re: How do i get rid of the preview pane in Mail?

2014-10-19 Thread Daniel K. Gartmann

I think our reason is to avoid marking a message as read just by moving
over them without opening them. This happens when preview pane is turned on.

I, for one, can't get this thing turned off and it is one of the more
annoying issues I have with Mail and VoiceOver on the Mac.

Hello Krister,

Not to appear provocative but I am curious as to why you want to "get rid of"
the preview pane in mail?

You are not alone, many, many people choose to do so but I do not know why.

As for me, I find that the application works beautifully using the standard
display configuration in conversation view, with the preview pane active.

In fact, were it not for this, the best Mac application I've ever used, there
would be no way I could subscribe to so many mailing lists and hope to manage
them all.

As I said, I'm just curious.

Thank you,

Mark

Question: How to get to mail tokens

2014-05-17 Thread Daniel K. Gartmann

Hi,

In Mail 7.2 (OS 10.9.2), is there a way to get to the search tokens /
terms when in the search box to look for messages (Cmd+options+f)?

While typing in the search field, I can up and down arrow among
suggestions, but I think I can also specify whether to look in any
particular field. I have come across this by accident but can't figure
out how to reliably get back to it using the keyboard.

Thanks for any input on how to search in Mail.

Best regards

Daniel

Bottons dimmed in column view

2014-01-25 Thread Daniel K. Gartmann

Hi,

On a couple of MACs running Mountain Lion and SnowLeopard respectively,
I'm seeing that the menu item for creating a new folder in the "Archive"
menu of Finder is dimmed in the Column View. In List View the item is
properly active. This happens when trying to create folders on a card
inside an external usb card reader.

Anybody else experienced this issue?

Re: Manually updating iWorks programs in Mavericks

2013-11-05 Thread Daniel K. Gartmann

Hi,

Here is how I got the problem solved:

I switched the interface language of the OS to English and rebooted.
I then ran System Updates and got the updates delivered through the
system update method. That is: Pages, Numbers , and Keynote were all
updated via the app stor when I had the interface language set to
English instead of Danish.
I then set the interface language back to Danish and rebooted, and
that's it.

All this after an idea from Apple Support.

Hope someone out there finds this bit of info useful.

Best regards

Daniel

Hello Daniel,

You could try contacting Apple to get a code to download the new version of the
iWork suite. Alternatively, install Mountain Lion on an external disc and
install iWork, then upgrade to Mavericks on that disc and you’ll get the new
versions. They’ll then be in your purchase history and you can download them
onto your main HD.

Cheers,

Software update fails on MacBook

2011-06-16 Thread Daniel K. Gartmann

Hello,

Well, this is not strictly related to accessibility, but hope this
doesn't become too off-topic anyway.

I want to run software update on a MacBook running latest SnowLeopard
10.6.7, but the update fails saying "software update ended
unexpectedly". And I can't do the usual check for updates.

I tried repairing the disk permissions and restart the machine, but
still the same result.

Anybody got any hints as to what is happening here?

Thanks a million in advance.

EyeTV installation

2010-05-08 Thread Daniel K. Gartmann

Hi,

I just downloaded EyeTV 3.3 from Elgato System's website to reinstall it
to work with my TV Tuner.

Has anyone been able to install this?

I found out that the program apparently now doesn't have its own
installation process. Instead, it just comes in a disk image file with a
program that should be put into the programs folder.

Now, when I launch the application, I get a dialog box where the only
accessible button is "standard". But I never get into the application
itself when I can make the necessary adjustments. The tuner is connected.

Any thoughts out there?

Controlling language on IPod Touch

2010-03-19 Thread Daniel K. Gartmann

Hi,

Is it possible to control when VoiceOver should change language while
reading text?

VoiceOver tries to make out what tts to use to read certain portions of
text. I believe it is determined by the language HML-tag. However, I
have a Danish app with recipes which reads nicely except for the fact
that the text is read out using the English voice even though it is in
Danish and thus should be read using the Danish voice on the IPod Touch.

Does anyone know how to change this behavior?

Thanks in advance.

SV: Loving this!!!

2010-01-09 Thread Daniel K. Gartmann

Well, except for the times when I have to do some serious word processing
tasks, I'm enjoying my Mac as well. But so far, I have not had much luck
with VoiceOver when it comes to announcing styles (heading 1, 2, etc) and so
forth in neither TextEdit nor Iworks Pages. It just tells me the name and
other features of the font but that's not enough when it comes to
structuring documents.

I have contacted accessibil...@apple.com about this but no response.

But the web, e-mail and music works great.

Hi,

I had to insert text into a fairly complex document in IWorks today and
couldn't get VO to automatically alert me of changes such as bullets,

Obviously this kind of information is important when working on a corporate

I had to do the job using Microsoft Word, but there must be some way around
this on the Mac.

SV: Which best -- OpenOffice or IWork?

2009-11-05 Thread Daniel K. Gartmann

Well, I think Nisus Writer costs about $70, so then one might as well pay
the extra dollars to get a full office suite, in my opinion.

Hi Danniel,

Do you need an office suite or just a word processor? If you only need a
word processor, you could check outNisus Writer or perhaps Mariner Write -
but I don't know if they've made Mariner VO compatible yet.

Take care

Well, I have looked a bit at Openoffice and I must say that the more
advanced features, such as insertion of headings and, indeed, tables seem
not to be accessible. But I was hoping that I could be corrected here on
this list (smile).

Moreover, when I read through a text, I have to use the VO cursor to change
paragraph. This is probably what annoys me the most.

So, at the moment, it looks as if the only really accessible office suite is
the IWorks suite.

Best regards

Hey if you are only going to be using it every so often then I would go with
open office which is free and accessiblity. I chose iwork because I am
using a mac mini and do not have a monitor connected to it at the moment. I
do have a connecter hooked up but have yet to hook up the monitor. Just my
thoughts.

How does one quickly jump to the buttom or to the top of the list of

There sure must be a keystroke to accomplish this.

Thanks so much in advance.

Spelling buttons without interacting

2009-10-19 Thread Daniel K. Gartmann

Hi,

Apparently, some buttons can't be interacted with e.g. in ITunes. I
therefore wonder how to go over the text of the button letter by letter
instead of just doing the vo+w command for spelling the word. I think this
issue also applies to other elements. What they all have in common is that
they can't be interacted with.

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

2. I went skydiving today and have a dvd from my awesome adventure and when
I put it in my mac the dvd set up page came up and asked about regions, what
do I put there?

3. Can someone please tell me how I can get my IPhone to sync with my mac

are on the IPhone to stay there when I plug the IPhone to the mac, but
that's just not working and I'm ready to pull all my hair out, lol.

Think that's all for now.

Have you tried Pages in iWork09? It handles headers and footers as well as
styles, although I haven't done anything with the latter so far.

Hello to all. Just wanted to note that I'm loving the ease with which I can
move around on the Web (and elsewhere) using VO's new features in Snow
Leopard. I just now paid a few bills -- yes, it's that time of the month --
and I was in in, around, over, and out in no time at all.
And like everyone else, of course, this is after just a couple of days. Just
wait til I've had some practice!

Interesting. If I press VO right arrow it definitely won't go past 83%, but
if I just press right arrow, it pushes it the rest of the way to 100%.

Hope this helps
