Any Experiences with the MB Air m1?

2021-05-04 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hi List,

Considering trading my older machine in and picking up the m1 MacBook Air.
Anyone have one and if so, what are your impressions with day to day VO use,
running Windows with Jaws or NVDA, and video conferencing applications?

I’m also tired of the typing speed reduction on the butterfly keyboard and am
interested in what the magic keyboard may offer.

Thanks,
Ibraheem

Advice on Reading Candle Stick Charts

2020-10-10 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hi group,

Interested in taking a deeper plunge into the world of financial investments,
I’d like to find a way to do technical analysis of stocks. I’m unsure how to
access candle stick charts. I’ve tried the SAS Graphics Accelerator but
unfortunately it can’t extract the chart information because the number of
cells in each row is not uniform. Would love to hear your thoughts on work
arounds. There’s got to be a way for visually impaired to play a more serious
role in this field and do our own technical analysis.

All best,
Ibraheem

Re: Off Topic Free Matter for the Blind Shipping

I am totally fine with filling out an application for a permit had they asked
me to. Instead they hit me with a hard refusal. I found it baffling that they
told me I need to go to the library to ship my package. I thought post offices
is where you shipped mail and libraries are were you borrow books LOL.

Thanks for these suggestions.

Dave, it’s more like an uneducated set of staff. Even the supervisor I spoke to
had no idea what I was talking about. I’ll return to them with proof of
disability from a doctor along with their own postal code for free matter and
give it another try. Its a big package of braille books so unsure where to
discreetly slip it without having to go through the uninformed postal
officer’s.

Off Topic Free Matter for the Blind Shipping

2020-08-19 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hey there,

Anyone use free matter for the blind shipping and have any guidelines on how to
use it? I tried using it the other day at the post office to send braille books
to a student, but the post office seemed like they had no idea what to do and
referred me to go to a library to ship my package. Realizing how unaware they
were, I decided not to push on and to cross check with others to make sure I’m
doing this right. Do I need any special card or something in order to use the
service? I simply wrote free matter for the blind on the box.

The post office seemed to have an issue with me being an individual sending the
package. They said that only libraries can use the service. ON the contrary,
my research seems to show that anyone who is sending materials to eligible
patrons can use the service. They weren’t trying to hear that LOL. Sometimes
when advocating for your rights and the rights of others is exhausting…

All best,
Ibraheem

Using Markdown for NoteTaking and imbedding Audio recordings

2020-06-01 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hey list,

I hope all are well and safe. I’m looking for a better way to take notes. I’ve
heard something about markdown mentioned here on this group but am unsure how
it works and would appreciate any guidance on getting setup with using it.
Additionally, I was wondering if someone knew of an app or way to type notes in
text while simultaneously imbedding audio recordings at different places in my
notes to refer to. For example, sometimes when Im taking notes in my Arabic
language class, it would be super helpful to make audio recordings on the fly
of the various subtleties posed by new vocabulary words and have those audio
files imbedded under the appropriate headers of my notes.

Hope this makes sense. Any suggestions are deeply appreciated.

All best,
Ibraheem

I figured it out.

I didn’t even think to check the menu bar which is where there is a drop down
for audio. There you can set the audio device to headphones or speakers. Worked
like a charm.

Thanks,

Re: Screen Sharing with Zoom

2020-03-26 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hey there,

Thanks for this. My issue is that zoom is not listed in the table of apps for
which I could allow screen sharing permissions. Its listed for microphone and
camera, but in the table for screen sharing, Zoom isn’t there at all. I’ve
uninstalled and reinstalled
Zoom but for some reason still don’t see it in the screen sharing table for me
to grant it permissions. I’m stumped here.

Best,
Ibraheem

Screen Sharing with Zoom

2020-03-25 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hi List,

Hope you’re well. I’m running into a strange issue when trying to setup my
screen sharing with Zoom on Catalina. Upon trying to share my screen, I
received the notification to grant screen sharing access to zoom in security
and privacy settings of system preferences. When I get to the table for screen
recording in the privacy tab, I don’t seem Zoom in there. I do see my app team
viewer in there but for some reason Zoom has gone ghost. I do see Zoom under
the camera and microphone tables of the privacy tab. Does anyone know how I can
fix this issue? I’ve uninstalled, reinstalled, and restarted my computer but no
success.

Thanks!
Ibraheem

Optimizing Keyboard shortcuts for Vmware and Jaws

2020-01-22 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hi group,

I suspect this topic is discussed tirelessly here. I just got setup VMware
Fusion and downloaded my copy of Jaws 2020. I’m now at a loss with configuring
my keyboard so that it makes sense. I’m unsure what the Windows key is suppose
to be or what the Jaws key is either. I’ve got my setup on a 2018 MacBook Air.
Any help and suggestions to roadmap my keyboard is deeply appreciated.

All best,

Ibraheem

Strategy for reading youtube live stream comments

Hi list,

Recently subscribed to a class taught using youtube live stream and having a
difficult time trying to quickly read comments coming into the stream and
contribute my own comments. Is there a way to set this up so that Voiceover can
be prompted to read the latest comment? There are hundreds of comments
coming in really quickly and having a way to navigate the live conversation
would make participation far more meaningful.

Thank you so much!

storage, and probably a couple other things form a single key stroke. If anyone
has information on where I can get those files to setup on my new Mac, I’d
super appreciate it.

Thanks!

Display brightens itself after Macbook wakes from sleep

2019-10-31 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hey list,

An observation I’ve made with my new MacBook Air and Catalina. Every time my
screen locks after a period of idleness or I put my computer to sleep and I
return to unlock my screen or awaken my computer, the screen returns to a
setting of full brightness. I always keep my screen’s brightness at 0%. I do
not turn on the screen curtain feature as I never had to with my previous
machine. I simply kept my display’s brightness at 0% all the time so didn’t
really see the point for screen curtain.

Do I have to use screen curtain now so that my computer screen remains turned
off when waking my computer up from sleep? Is there a fix to keep the
brightness set to 0% and not to restore when unlocking my screen?

Thanks so much!

All best,
Ibraheem

Re: Possible work around for sound loss

2019-10-13 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hey there,
I find this sound loss is consistent after I take a WhatsApp audio call.
Despite taking another phone call, sound remains lost. And this is super
frustrating because the issue revolves around the basic primitive function of a
phone LOL.

Best,

Hey folks,

Wondering what your recommendations are on getting either VMware fusion pro or
the standard version. Any pluses to the pro version in terms of accessibility?

Thanks,

Hey group,
I know this is a bit off-topic, wondering if anyone here is from London and can
email me off list about their experience using the public transportation and
other accessibility features of the city. I’m planning a trip at the end of
September and would like to hear about all the things I can maximize on
including best locations to stay in, and transportation methods to favor.
Thank you!

Re: Using dictionary.app with voiceover

2019-07-28 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hey Andrew,
I’ve had the same issue. The workaround that I found is to type the word
omitting the last letter of the word, and then scroll into it in the search
table, and then jumping to the web area and you should find the definition.
It’s crucial that you do not type the word and it’s entirety for this to work.

All best,
Ibraheem

Re: In the market for a new laptop- your advice

2019-07-25 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
The connection method was USB. I recall the issue being in the setup of the
embosser. In order to use the embosser, one has to setup an imaginary printer
first and then somehow trick the computer to print to the embosser by going
through this imaginary printer setup. I’m definitely distorting all the details
here- It was so long ago, I don’t recollect the exact details but I know it was
somewhere along this line. And I also know for a fact that on my bootcamp
partition the process would work just fine.

Sorry for the inexact description. Thanks for all your input though.

All best,
Ibraheem

Re: In the market for a new laptop- your advice

2019-07-24 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hey Simon,

thanks for the suggestion. I’ll look into the refurbished models. Are there any
specs I should strongly consider when trying to find the best machine to
accomplish what I need with a virtual machine and bootcamp? I’m a little out of
touch with tech specs and any advice you have on this is deeply appreciated.
Ideas like which processes or how much ram is ideal for a smooth experience is
what I’m looking to know more about.

Kindly,
Ibraheem

Re: In the market for a new laptop- your advice

2019-07-24 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hey Donna,

Thankfully, I have a windows copy of Duxbury available. I recall in the past
trying to emboss from a virtual machine using duxbury and running into issues
with my mac not being able to detect the embosser. The only fix was to install
windows on a bootcamp partition rather than a virtual machine which worked
well. Wondering if that bug was fixed and whether one can now emboss out of the
virtual machine.

Thank you so much!
All best,
Ibraheem

something that can run windows jaws and Duxbury. Saw the MacBook Pro and the
MacBook Aire posted online, and unsure if the higher end of the MacBook Aire is

I’m looking to run windows on either Boot Camp or virtual hard drive, also
looking for suggestions on this set up. All input is deeply appreciated.

Adding Percussions to an MP3 file

2019-05-03 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hey list,

Hope all are well. I have an MP3 file of a song, but unfortunately the
percussions in the song are not heavy enough to be felt by some of by deaf
students. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way for me to add a base pattern
or stronger drum pattern to the song so that I can present it for my students
to feel. Could garage band accomplish this task? If so, anyone have a step by
step guide?

Thank you so much for all your help and time. So deeply appreciated!

All best,
Ibraheem

Referencing beginning of rows and columns in Numbers

2018-11-20 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hi list,

Does anyone know if there’s a VO shortcut to read the information in the cells
at the top of a column and the beginning of a row in numbers? It would be super
helpful when working deep in a spreadsheet to refer to my column and row
headers without having to leave my placement in the spreadsheet.

Hi list,

Hope all are well. I recall in previous builds of OSX I could easily adjust
Voiceover's speed, pitch, volume and even switch VO voices from the rotor. The
key combination, control + option + command + right or left arrows use to do
the trick. Then I would use control + option + command + up or down arrows to
make my adjustments after navigating to the category of interest. Is there a

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you for your ideas.

Mixing songs for Party Playlist

2018-06-18 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hi folks,

Are there any accessible ways to mix songs of a playlist to produce one
uninterrupted flow of music? This is for a low-key party, so nothing over the
top is required. We’re just looking to avoid those awkward time gaps between
song endings and beginnings. In fact, we have the audio files loaded into a
play list in iTunes right now and if theres a way to mix the playlist in
advance to create one long audio file which we could play at the event, that
works too. I’d imagine this avoids the need for living mixing which is
advantageous in this situation. Not sure what options exist out there.

Thank you for all your help and insight.

All best,
Ibraheem

Accessing EDX Courses

2015-08-04 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Dear List,
I hope you’re all well. Recently I’ve entertained the opportunity of enrolling
in EDX courses and have found it quite challenging to activate links under the
courseware section. I can tab through the webpage, having VoiceOver read to me
the links, but when I attempt to activate the links by pressing either space or
VO + space, its as though VoiceOver loses its focus on the link, and the high
pitch chime indicating one is trying to click on something that isn’t there
graces my ears. I can’t seem to use the VO + arrow keys, the links list, or the
VO find command to navigate to the links. And when I can get VO to read the
links by tabbing through, I can’t activate them. I even tried to click with the
VO clicking short keys and by using the actual track pad. If anyone’s had
success, I’d be super excited to hear your work around.

Thanks in advance and enjoy your summer!

Best,

Ibraheem

You can write it in LaTeX with any text editor, then generate a PDF file for
 printing. MacTeX is available here:
 https://tug.org/mactex/

Unfortunately the installer isn't very accessible. Once it is installed,
however, you can run pdflatex, for example, to generate a PDF document.

Dear Christine,

Hope you're well. I remember having this conversation with you earlier this
year. Since then, I've figured out a work around to open Bookshare files in
Mavericks. After you download the daisy file from Bookshare, open up the folder
you downloaded and search for the file with the xml extension. Rename the
extension to html. You'll then be able to open and read the book in Safari with
VO.

Happy reading.

Writing and Reading Mathematics with VO

2014-08-04 Thread Ibraheem Fakir

write it in an accessible manner. In my days of studying math, I use to spell
things out with words E.G. square root 9 + square root of 9. Perhaps there's
since been progress from my days in noting mathematics.

Thanks so much for any suggestions.

Copy and Paste

2014-07-07 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Dear List,

Recently, I've tried copying text off a web page and have had little success.
I've never had this problem before, on an older mac running Mavericks. Now, I'm
using a newer machine but still running Mavericks and can't seem to accomplish
task. Below is the steps I've tried.

1. Interact with text on web page with VO, Shift, Down arrow.
2. VO + enter to begin selecting text.
3. VO + Right Arrow till end of desired text.
4. VO + Enter to stop selecting text.
5. Command C to copy.
6. Command V into a word processor to paste.

Am I doing something wrong here? Also, I'm using group navigation mode with VO.
Curious to know how to copy multiple paragraphs on a web page as well. Meaning
parts of an essay which are separated in group navigation mode so it requires
you stop interacting with the first paragraph and then VO right arrow to the
next paragraph and then interact with the second paragraph.

Thanks for any tips.

Best,

I

Dear Isaac,

Thank you for writing back.

First, though not a huge issue at this problem, when turning quicknav on, and
spinning through my roter, I don't have a paragraph setting. I set it to words.
Second, I followed your steps and when I'm ready to copy by pressing command C.
I hear the short high pitch sound indicating that whatever I tried to do
failed. I tried your steps on a different page, this time a random Wikipedia
article and didn't receive the high pitch sign of error. Instead, VO pronounced
the phrase copy and when I went to paste the chunk of Wikipedia article into
a document, my clipboard was empty. I tried a Wikipedia article in case there
was some form of restriction on the original page I'm trying to copy from.
Don't see why there would be as its a write up on exercise descriptions.
Anyway, any other ideas? I have my mouse set to follow my keyboard cursor.

Re: Copy and Paste

2014-07-07 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Interesting note,

I've been using Google Chrome and there's where the problem seems to exist. I
just tried copying and pasting with Safari and it works perfectly well. Excuse
me if its been mentioned before that copying and pasting within Chrome isn't
possible with the usual VO commands. Thanks for your help. Now I've got to
figure out how to find the URL of a web page loaded in Chrome.

Much appreciation,

Hi,

Hope you're well. First, launch dictionary application. Second, press command,

control, option, j to jump into the table of search results. You can arrow up
and down till you find the word you want. You can check their spelling to
confirm its the word you want by pressing control, option, w, w. Then, once you
find the word you like, you can again press control, option, j to jump into the
html area where you can use vo and arrow keys to read the definition. In the
case where you selected the wrong word in the search results, use control,

can again jump back into html of definition by control, option, j.

Reading Bookshare's XML

2014-03-18 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Dear List,

Has anyone encountered problems when opening the .xml file of a bookshare
title in Safari? I've tried with multiple books that I've recently downloaded
and end up with a safari page whose content is empty. Older downloads of books
open and can read just fine with VO and Safari. Its all my recent downloads
that won't work anymore.

Any thoughts? I'm using Mavericks.

All best,

Ibraheem

Hey,
That is so interesting. I wonder if I download the books from my mountain lion
machine and transfer them onto my Mavericks machine if they'll work. All the
books that work now on my Mavericks machine were downloaded a couple years ago
off of a snow leopard machine. If my idea doesn't work, I'm dreading the
thought of carrying both machines to school.
Anyway, thank you so very much for your lead. I'll test out my idea and let you
know if it works.
Kindest regards,

Re: Safari Interaction Issue in Mavericks

2014-02-22 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hey Brian,

I've noticed the same issue, accept my VO remains on the previous page. It
doesn't jump to the tool bar. I have the setting set to have it jump into the
new loaded page as well. I for some reason cannot open up hyperlinks in Apple
mail either. If I right click on them, I get three options I believe. Copy
link, open behind mail and open I think.

The only one which seems to work is the copy feature which I then paste the
link into an address field. Sometimes however, I don't even have the option of
handling the link when I right click a hyper link. This extreme case where
there's a lack of opening and copying options occurs in all my NY Times
articles.

Maybe these are two issues separate from each other. Just thought I'd chime in
with you.

Peace,

Ibraheem

VO Not REcognizing Arabic

2014-01-21 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Dear list,

I’m unsure how many of yawl are familiar with arabic, but the solution may
apply to any foreign language that uses non Latin alphabets.

I have a PDF file with both english and what’s suppose to be arabic writing. VO
reads the english fine, but it reads the arabic writing as bazaar combinations
of english letters and symbols. The symbols are greek, and Chinese I think… Any
who, its any assortment of symbols Alex can recognize. I had a sighted friend
confirm that the writing is actually in arabic. I also have the arabic voice
Tarik downloaded in the VO utility under speech. I was hoping that the arabic
voice would take over and read the arabic portions of the PDF and Alex would
read the english portions. You know, something like how the iPhone does with
recognizable foreign languages.

Any thoughts?

Thank you all,

Ibraheem

Re: VO Not REcognizing Arabic

Hey,
I just tried setting Tarik to my default voice. Tariq can’t read the english,
and he reads what’s suppose to be the Arabic the same way Alex did, except with
a thick Arabic accent LOL. No fix. Could there be an issue in the composition
of the PDF? Why would it appear visually as clear Arabic but the actual text is
a strange combination of non Arabic letters and symbols…
Best,

Ibraheem

VO reads the english fine, but it reads the arabic writing as bazaar

Chinese I think… Any who, its any assortment of symbols Alex can recognize.
I had a sighted friend confirm that the writing is actually in arabic. I

I was hoping that the arabic voice would take over and read the arabic

Adjusting Font

2013-11-26 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hi All,

I’ve been trying to adjust the font in both Bean and Pages. I highlight the
text, press command T and tab till I hear the edit field for the font size. I
fill in the font size I want, but don’t know how to execute the process. There
isn’t an apply button and pressing enter doesn’t seem to do anything. The
dialog box remains open after pressing enter. Pressing escape jumps me back
into the document without any font changes. am I missing something here?

Thanks for your help

Best of wishes,

Ibraheem

Using Preview

2013-11-12 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hi all,
Is there a way to read a PDF with the single page view while having the ability
to move forward one page at a time?
I use to be able to do this with SL with no problem, but I can’t wrap my head
around why its not working for me on Mavericks.
I went to the view menu, set it to single page. Then when I interact with the
PDF’s text, then press VO + down arrow to read line by line, Vø seems to read
the page and everything beyond it. Before, I use to get the “you just crashed
into a wall sound” once I made it to the bottom of the page, now it just jumps
to the next page like one huge scroll. Also, I use to press Fn + down arrow to
move to the next page, but for some reason nothing seems to happen when I press
this command. I hear VO say “down” but the page remains the same. Am I missing
something here?
Thanks!

Things have changed a bit with Google’s new look so I’m not totally positive
on how it will behave in Snow Leopard with Safari 5.*. I’ll give some basic
 ideas though:

 • Go to the Drive link or press the Open My Google Drive link.

This will take you to the main Google Drive page which lists your Drive
documents and Shared documents depending on what is selected. In the newest
look for Google Drive, there’s an area that says something about Welcome to
the new look grid or something similar, Interact with that. Navigate around
there until VO says “Menu Views four items” or something similar. Interact
with that item and VO-space on the Shared item. This will ensure that the
list is of only the items that are Shared with you. Navigate to the list of
items and arrow through it. You need to check the item you wish to move. If
you can locate the Checkbox, check it otherwise, often you can simply press
the “x” key when arrowing through the list to select it. After it is
selected, Stop Interacting with the list then navigate left and there should
be a group of items with the Move button inside. Activate the Move button
and a new dialog should pop up. Choose where you wish to move it within your
Drive. Sometimes, I’ve found that you need to use the VO-shift-space to
select the location and/or simply a press of the spacebar will do it. You’ll
need to try a few different things. You’ll know your selection of the
location has worked because the Move button will become not-dimmed. If
you’re having issues determining exactly where it is going to go in your
Drive, don’t worry, you can move it after it’s in the Drive in the Finder and
this will affect the web-interface of your Google Drive. The really neat
thing about having these shared items in the Desktop version of Google Drive
is that any changes that are made by anyone are synced across all users who
 have access to the document.

Hopefully, this makes some sense to you.

 Later…

Send button often while typing. So, as soon as I hit the spacebar, things
get sent. In any case, I’ll try to finish this message again. The Google
Spreadsheets have some oddities when using Safari. I usually move the
shared spreadsheet into my Google Drive, then open it from the Finder.
When you do this, keyboard focus will usually be brought to cell A1. You
can then just use arrow key navigation to move around the spreadsheet. Not
VO arrows, just arrow keys. If you need to edit a cell, simply arrow to it
then enter the info you desire.

Beyond that, if you wish to download it as an Excel file, that option is
under the File menu of the Google Doc. Not the Safari File menu, but the
one within the Google Spreadsheet. The problem here arises due to the way
that Safari and VO deal with the Google Docs menus which is less than
useful at times. Chrome handles this sort of thing much better, but, then
you need to be versed at using Chrome as well. I tend to use both browsers
as some things work better in each.

If you are able to download the Excel version, Numbers 09 will open it and
you can do most things you’re used to doing in Excel with pretty well the
 same formula set.

 HTH.

Re: Using Preview

2013-11-12 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hey,
Thanks for the tip.
I realized why I was getting confused. When I’m no longer interacting wight he
text and I hit page down the first time, it jumps to the first page of the
entire PDF, then when I hit page down the second time, it jumps to the next
page from the one I was previously reading. Basically, I have to hit FN + down
arrow twice to move over a single page. This stinks LOL.
I didn’t know that it doesn’t save where you were last reading in single page
view. I’ll be sure to make note of the page I left off at for future reference.
Thanks a lot!

on the last viewed page in single page view. It only does that in continuous
 scroll.

They have definitely improved how some text is read, but in my opinion
they’ve messed up a lot of basic reader functionality. I’ve tried conveying
some of my concerns about this to Apple, but they all seem to go unheeded.

I use to be able to do this with SL with no problem, but I can’t wrap my head
around why its not working for me on Mavericks.
I went to the view menu, set it to single page. Then when I interact with the
PDF’s text, then press VO + down arrow to read line by line, Vø seems to
read the page and everything beyond it. Before, I use to get the “you just
crashed into a wall sound” once I made it to the bottom of the page, now it
just jumps to the next page like one huge scroll. Also, I use to press Fn +
down arrow to move to the next page, but for some reason nothing seems to
happen when I press this command. I hear VO say “down” but the page remains
the same. Am I missing something here?
 Thanks!

Things have changed a bit with Google’s new look so I’m not totally
positive on how it will behave in Snow Leopard with Safari 5.*. I’ll give
 some basic ideas though:

 • Go to the Drive link or press the Open My Google Drive link.

This will take you to the main Google Drive page which lists your Drive
documents and Shared documents depending on what is selected. In the
newest look for Google Drive, there’s an area that says something about
Welcome to the new look grid or something similar, Interact with that.
Navigate around there until VO says “Menu Views four items” or something
similar. Interact with that item and VO-space on the Shared item. This
will ensure that the list is of only the items that are Shared with you.
Navigate to the list of items and arrow through it. You need to check the
item you wish to move. If you can locate the Checkbox, check it otherwise,
often you can simply press the “x” key when arrowing through the list to
select it. After it is selected, Stop Interacting with the list then
navigate left and there should be a group of items with the Move button
inside. Activate the Move button and a new dialog should pop up. Choose
where you wish to move it within your Drive. Sometimes, I’ve found that
you need to use the VO-shift-space to select the location and/or simply a
press of the spacebar will do it. You’ll need to try a few different
things. You’ll know your selection of the location has worked because the
Move button will become not-dimmed. If you’re having issues determining
exactly where it is going to go in your Drive, don’t worry, you can move it
after it’s in the Drive in the Finder and this will affect the
web-interface of your Google Drive. The really neat thing about having
these shared items in the Desktop version of Google Drive is that any
changes that are made by anyone are synced across all users who have access
 to the document.

Hopefully, this makes some sense to you.

Re: How to create a disc partition on my MBP for trying out Mavericks?

2013-11-11 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hey,
I used Super duper to upgrade. You don’t have to pay for the feature you’ll be
using in the app and its super accessible to use.
First, download super duper. You can run a search for it on Google.
Second, after you install and launch Super Duper, you’ll see that the
application contains two drop down menus. In the first drop down menu, you’ll
want to select your current drive, (E.g Mac hd). In the second drop down menu,
you’ll want to choose the last option which says something along the lines of
disk image. A dialog box should appear which will prompt you to find your mac
os extended journaled formatted hard drive to store the image on to. Be sure
the destination drive is formatted to mac OS Extended journaled. I believe you
can use disk utility to format your external hard drive.
After everything is set, you can check the description of the task you’re
about to run by pressing VO + arrow keys. It should say that you’ll be creating
an image of Mac HD onto the destination drive. Press the copy button and all
should work.
It is important that you choose the create disk image option in the second pop
up menu, (which you can then find your destination drive through the dialog box
which comes afterwards.)

After the image is safely created and copied on to your external hard drive,
you can then search the app store for os 10.9 and install it on to your
computer. If anything should go wrong with the new OS, you can reinstall your
computer to look like it did when you created the disk image.

Hope that helps.

Ibraheem

I think that the best way to accomplish a test drive of Mavericks is to

then just upgrade to Mavericks through the app store. If you're not happy
with it, you should be able to just copy the image of the previous OS back
 onto the Mac.
That way there's no messing around with partitioning. If my reasoning is
wrong, I hope someone will speak and let me know (before I go ahead and do
 it myself)

Wanting to give Mavericks a test drive. Also if I like/hate the experience
of the new OS, how can I recover the disc space in order that I'll have the
avadible space of my 500GB hard drive again? As said before also from a
 Voiceover point of view.

I fully understand that this may not be a light-hearted thing to attempt

Working with Spreadsheets

this is my first time working with a spreadsheet so all suggestions are
invaluable.

Thanks so much and I'm excited to hear back from the group.
