Re: Ibooks Coming to the Mac

2013-06-27 Thread Kliphton A M
OH, let me also point out that you can add the epub books to iTunes and they
will show up in your collections section of iBooks once you choose and sink the
ones you want. The mobi whitch is for kindle cannot be imported, you actually
have to have a physical kindle to import them to your library, drag and drop
them in your documents section of your kindle, and then they will show up in
your books library. HTH

Re: Can Apple TV Pull Content From a NAS

2013-05-26 Thread Kliphton A M
This is possible. I use a western digital 8TB NAS, and it has an iTunes server
on it. I store my iTunes library there, and point my iTunes from my Mac to
this folder. And I have no issues. My appleTV pulls and streams the media
content from there just fine. I turn on home sharing, and use the same appleID
that my iTunes library has, and I have no issues at all. Let me know if you
have anymore questions.

If you don't have the keyboard manager from logitech installed, just push f1,

accidental keystroke found with the logitech 811

2013-02-21 Thread Kliphton A M
As those of you know with this logitech keyboard, you can pair it with 3
devices. I was in the wrong device, and hit a keystroke that locked my screen
for me. If you hit the function key, with the escape key while using your
iPhone's profile, it will lock the screen for you. Pretty handy, that way you
don't have to reach down to lock your screen, and then you can go to the next
device or what ever you were going to do next.

Hi yes, it works for the call back method. but not for direct dial. So I use
a combination of call back method and auto answer. With auto answer I can
set my own gv number as the incoming number which gets auto-answered. So,
when I place an outgoing call, it does the call back, making my phone
receive an incoming call from my gv number. Auto answer does it's job and
automagically answers the call, and the outcome is a seamless outbound call
like everyone else, but coming from my GV number.
It works like a champ. As to why this tweak didn't work on the other iPhone,
my guess is that since I saved my settings, installing it on my own i Phone
made it read the settings file and somehow that prevented it from locking
up. However on the other iPhone which never had Phone GV Extension, maybe
there was no settings file to read. So, if I find where the settings are
kept, maybe I'll transfer that information to the other phone and then
install the extension to see if my guess is right. Who knows, more to play
with. At least I now know how to get it out of this zombie mode in case I
screw things up again. . I love this.

knew how to get out of this mess and reboot in safe mode, I just reset the
phone and jailbroke again, however that takes a lot of time. So, all you
have to do is first reset your phone the regular and Apple approved way by
pressing and holding Home and Power/Sleep buttons for around 10 seconds.
Then release the buttons and wait for the reboot to happen. Now, this might
fix your problem, but if it doesn't, then boot your device in safe mode and
then you can go into Cydia and remove the app or tweak which caused your
woes in the first place. To do this, reset your phone using the method I
described, while it's booting up, press and hold the volume up button. Do
this until the phone boots and Voice Over speaks. It will now be in safe
mode. Now you can open Cydia and remove the last app or tweak you installed
and then reboot normally to be out of safe mode and the Apple should be
round again. The following link explains this more elegantly and with maybe
more details.

retiring my apple bt keyboard

2013-02-07 Thread Kliphton A M
There was a bt keyboard suggested by Johnathan Mosen, it's called the
logitech easy switch. You can pair it with 3 devices, I have mine paired
with my mac, iPhone, and apple tv. The keyboard is about the same size as
the apple bt keyboard. But the keys are more rounded, have a little indent
in them to fit your fingers better, and has a on off switch on the upper
righ edge. It also doesn't take standard batteries, it is charged by a usb
cord, and is said to last up to 3 months without a charge depedning how much
you use it. If you are considering this keyboard, make sure you get the
right one. The model 810 is for a PC, and the model 811 is for the mac.
They both work with IOS devices, but the pc one, will not work with the mac,
and the mac one would not work with your pc. I love this keyboard, the
typing is smoother than on the apple bt keyboard. it even has the media
keys that work well with your IOS device, and I love switching devices on
the fly. Just got a text on my phone, replied, and switched right back to
finish this email. Thanks Johnathan for that suggestion, best purchase I
made so far, except for my speedy 2012 mac mini.

Thanks. I think the idea of doing this all wirelessly sounds very cool. If
I get a time-capsule, I may pick your brain more about how you did this.

Hi,

I believe that it may be technically possible but not extremely practical.
You would need to probably partition your TC so that the backups were on a
separate partition then set your Mac to automatically mount the other
partition where your iTunes content is stored. Then when you started
iTunes, it would access its Library from that network drive. I think that
performance would be compromised and other inconsistencies may occur. Why
not simply use the Home Sharing feature built-in to iTunes so that all users
with the same AppleID in your house could access that Library?

Re: o. t.: Microsoft Office for Mac! Important: read and leave comments!

2013-02-01 Thread Kliphton A M
Of course this is my own opinion. But I think that hurdle is real high on
making voice over as accessible with office, as Jaws or window eyes. The way
that jaws interacts with spread sheets, is way beyond what voice over can do
with numbers. But I wish you luck. I am a small business owner myself, and
run windows on my mac as a virtual machine, just so I can make my book keeping
a breeze, if office was accessible with the mac, mainly word and excel for me,
that would be the deal breaker. I would stop using windows altogether. As for
outlook, I still think it is the best mail client on the PC side, but to me
apple mail rules! Of course it would be nice for my calendar and contacts to
be at my finger tips in apple mail like it is in outlook, but it doesn't bother
me to have to open another application to get to them. The interface of apple
mail is so clean and smooth, it's almost unheard of. I know there is a way to
get to my contact while in mail, but haven't really sweated it because I rarely
look at them from mail anyway. But good luck, and I hope you and your staff
are able to accomplish this.

Well, you can do that, but jaws is still going to ask you to activate. It did
this to me coming from fusion 4, to 5. Everything else will be preserved,
fusion will just tell you that the vm machine needs to be configured for later
versions, and once you do it, you can't go back. The folder you want is call

Re: How to help blind people new to Mac learn it as fast and smooth as possible

2013-01-10 Thread Kliphton A M
The one thing that someone told me helped the most. Forget everything you know
about windows! The 2 systems are as different as night and day, so open your
mind, and learn the new OS, because even though your not a knew computer user,
the system is new to you. Once you do this, everything will start to make more
since.

A bit humorously, but this is not a blindness thing so to speak, of
 anything is a blindness thing.
Unfortunately it is a human disorder, i. e. because I feel disadvantaged
for my back ground income level, skin, gender whatever I

The same argument is made for other sorts of stealing, from cheating on a

to keep this on point, I suppose some forget that Apple staff are rumored
 to read this list?
and I feel sure they would love to know others here are using their

Re: removing copyright protection from DVD

2012-12-29 Thread Kliphton A M
bottom-line, if I buy it, I should be able to do with it as I please. I
shouldn't have to buy a movie that I already own on DVD, from the app store or
iTunes, just to be able to watch it on my iPhone, iPod, or appleTV. As long as
I don't sell it, witch I am not, then I am not breaking any laws. But for
those who want to know. Google says handbreak and VLC will do this for you

RE: activities (was easy way to use iMessage on mac)

2012-12-02 Thread Kliphton . A . M
Even before I got my SSD, I didn't experience lag in voices when I had
different voices set up for different activities. AS for using iMessage,
just set up a commander to go to the beginning and, and then just inter act
with the HTML section when reading and replying to messages, works like a
charm for me!

Subject: Re: activities (was easy way to use iMessage on mac)

The lag when switching apps only gets worse if you choose a different voice,
and it's the one single drawback to Activities, which is otherwise an
extremely powerful way to use VO. I have, now, two activities; the normal
one, which I use for everything except messaging clients. I use AIM instead
of Messages, as I was having problems getting messages to read, and only use
AIM and SKype regularly--who needs more than two IM clients? sheesh. So,
for these two apps, I use Alex, who is slightly louder than Fred for some
reason. I slow him down a bit, as Fred can speak very quickly and I can
still understand him, but other voices this is not so much true. I turn off
all the elements of cursor tracking (There is no way to just turn cursor
tracking off, except with a manual keystroke, but you *CAN* go through and
uncheck all the boxes that say "VoiceOver cursor follows ." whatever, same
beastie in the end.. Then, I park my message client's VO cursors in the
HTML content window (leaving the insertion pointer in the edit boxes). It
sounds complicated but once it's all set up it's just a few keystrokes.

This is just one way to use Activities. I've written to
accessibil...@apple.com to suggest at least one or two others; activities
which could come "preset," with VO, but which might really help when using a
new app for the first time or whatever. That lag, though, I think is just a
processor hard limit, and will be better or worse depending on how much RAM
you have.

Don't let this lag dissuade you from using Activities to customize VO and
make it even more flexible than it already is.,

posted a work around on how to make a commander or hot key for it since you
couldn't do it the normal way in vo utility. Does anyone remember how to do
it, or have that message handy? I searched for it on the archives, but no
luck. Thanks.

RE: Video Converter Suggestions

2012-11-23 Thread Kliphton . A . M
Are you looking for free, or paid versions? What all would you like this
converter to do? Off the top of my head, I have heard a lot of people
mention handbreak, and DVD ripper pro. Just to name a few.

Subject: Video Converter Suggestions

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know of an accessible video converter for the Mac?
I have several video files that have the ".mkv" extension.
I found a program on the Internet, but it places a watermark on the video.

Any suggestions people have would be great - hope all are having a safe
holiday time with family or friends.

twitter and notifications center

2012-11-22 Thread Kliphton . A . M
So, bought myself a custom built 2012 MacMini. And upon setting it up, I
entered my 3 twitter accounts. Sorry if someone already posted this, but it
surprised me that you could have more than one twitter accounts, since it
wouldn't let me enter more than 1 Facebook account. But in going to post to
twitter, I got a popup menu, so I could choose what account to tweet from.
Very neat and smooth method. And of course my MacMini with 1TB of SSD, 16
gigs of ram, with a 2.6 I7 quad core processor makes using the mac that much
smoother. But just in case anyone didn't know, yes you can have multiple
twitter accounts on your mac and in your notifications center. HTH

time machine?

2012-02-03 Thread Kliphton A . M-SR
Okay, finally took the plunge and am now using time machine. I know how to
turn manual and automatic backups on and off, but how do I get to other
backups? I want to get rid of the ones it already did because I don't want it
using up 3TB of hard disc space. So if someone could tell me how to get to the
old TM's that would be great. Thanks.

disc permissions?

2012-02-01 Thread Kliphton A . M-SR
Okay, doing some routine clean up of my mac. So how do I get to disc utility
from start up? Is it command r, or option R? Another thing, someone told me a
while back that you could reset the ram cash on your mac upon start up, how do
you do this? Thanks.
