Re: RNIB Overdrive syncing question

2015-07-29 Thread RACHEL DAMIEN
not sure if it still takes up space. i think it does actually as when i have
looked on some occations the book is still there and i can still play it and i
know that it isnt there on the book shelf of the library i got it from as the
time has run out. i have reinstalled the app several times as well. i guess i
can deal with it but it would be a lot easier if that bit worked. lol.

Rachael, I haven't gotten around to returning an audiobook yet but just in

 Hi all,
Thanks to a very generous person, my (sighted) mother is finally using a Mac
instead of her old, dying, Vista laptop. The difference is amazing; her
Windows machine was so bad that, when I reminded her today she could just
leave a few apps open at once on the MBP, she was surprised, and asked if
that wouldn't lock up the Mac like it did on her other machine.

Anyway, the transition is surprisingly smooth so far. However, there are tons
of tricks I don't know, and/or don't even know about to research. Things like
split screen, moving windows around, scroll gestures, drag and drop modes and
commands, what icons do what, and so forth. Sure, I can tell her all the
keystrokes I know, and most will carry over as they aren't VO-specific, but
the point remains that she can do a great deal with the trackpad that I
can't, so I'm not the best teacher for that aspect. Does anyone know what
resources are out there? Perhaps a good web series, or a book similar to
Mastering the Macintosh with VoiceOver--but for sighted users? I know this is
slightly off-topic, but I'm not sure where else to ask.

Thanks for any ideas. Sorry if you get this twice; I'm posting it to two Mac
 lists I'm on.

Facebook Messenger is a popular means of communicating, but the Mac
doesn’t have a dedicated Facebook messaging app like the iPhone or
Android does… or does it!?! Indeed, you can use Facebook Messenger to
message friends from OS X, and in moments you can set up the Mac Messages
app to function as a Facebook Messenger client in OS X.
 http://osxdaily.com/
Using Facebook Messenger from the Mac is really quite simple, but it’s
entirely separate from configuring Facebook sharing from the Mac, so if
you have done one but not the other, you’d need to complete both to have
the full Facebook functions of sharing, posting, and messaging available
to you in OS X.  http://osxdaily.com/
How to Add Facebook Messenger to Messages in OS X http://osxdaily.com/
This basically turns your Messages app into a full fledged Mac Facebook
Messenger client, you’ll be set up in just a few seconds with these
 instructions: http://osxdaily.com/
Open the Messages app on the Mac if you haven’t done so yet
 http://osxdaily.com/
  http://osxdaily.com/
Pull down the “Messages” menu and choose “Add Account…”
 http://osxdaily.com/
  http://osxdaily.com/
From the message account screen, choose “Other messages account…” and
 click on “Continue” http://osxdaily.com/
  http://osxdaily.com/
Pull down the menu next to “Account Type” and select ‘Jabber’ from the
 list http://osxdaily.com/
In “Account Name” enter your Facebook account user name as follows:
yourusern...@chat.facebook.com (a Facebook username is whatever your
Facebook profile URL is, for example: ‘www.facebook.com/your_name_here’
the username would be “your_name_here” and the account name would then be

Facebook Messenger is a popular means of communicating, but the Mac
doesn’t have a dedicated Facebook messaging app like the iPhone or
Android does… or does it!?! Indeed, you can use Facebook Messenger to
message friends from OS X, and in moments you can set up the Mac
Messages app to function as a Facebook Messenger client in OS X.
 http://osxdaily.com/
Using Facebook Messenger from the Mac is really quite simple, but
it’s entirely separate from configuring Facebook sharing from the
Mac, so if you have done one but not the other, you’d need to
complete both to have the full Facebook functions of sharing,
posting, and messaging available to you in OS X.

Hi, Just got trillion to work with Facebook chat. Not really sure how I did
it, but went into preferences and the Facebook option was gone. Hit add and
put in my info and fb chat is working. Oddly the window that shows my
timeline seems to be missing, but no big deal!

suggested, and no URL. Doesn’t happen often, but this one stumps me.

 Hi,

You must use the proper FaceBook Jabber username. This is different than
your regular FaceBook login. this Jabber username usually does something
with your name and adds a number to it. So, for example, mine may turn
out to Tim.Kilburn.5 even though I login to FaceBook with an eMail
address. If you’ve linked your FaceBook account with the other sharing
features on your Mac, you’ll see that FaceBook Jabber info in your
Contacts card in the Contacts app right by the IM field. Twitter and
other linked social media accounts are also shown there. All set up and
 it works fine for me.

Messenger client, you’ll be set up in just a few seconds with these
 instructions: http://osxdaily.com/
Open the Messages app on the Mac if you haven’t done so yet

 Hi all

I bring to you news that I got Facebook Chat working in both Windows and now
on the Mac. On Windows, I use Instantbird and set up Facebook Chat with its
native support. On the Mac, I set up a Messages account, using Jabba as the
account type after selecting other messages account, use
 usern...@chat.facebook.com for example
 christopher.hallswor...@chat.facebook.com
enter my Facebook password and the rest can be left alone. It was so simple
to set up I could have kicked myself *smile*.
Here are the exact instructions for the Mac only; Windows users may skip this.
 1. Open Messages.
 2. Press command-comma (,) too open Preferences.
 3. Interact with the toolbar, click accounts, stop interacting, interact with
the account controls group, click add account and stop interacting.
 4. Select other messages account radio button and click continue.
 5. In the account type popup button, choose Jabba.
 6. Enter your Facebook username and password as shown in the example above.
 Note
Don't know your Facebook username or haven't got one yet? Go to
 www.facebook.com/username
log in if prompted and you can either create one or learn what your username
 is.
The rest of the settings can be left alone, and it should just work like
 anything else on the Mac.
 Happy chatting!
