RE: Issues with Venmoe and Voiceover

2024-01-18 Thread Robin Frost
Hi sarai,

Do report this to them. When I’ve reported things to them in the past they’ve
been very receptive to fixing things so it couldn’t hurt. Does it behave the
same on all devices?

I have a different issue on Venmo I have one former Venmo friend who I can’t
delete for love nor money as the saying goes hahahaha. When I click on them it
gives me an error as though their profile contains nothing so there’s no remove
or delete element to be rid of them. So I have to contact them myself. I’ll be
happy to join you in reporting this issue to them as well.

Take good care,

Robin

All :

Someone asked me to do a Venmo transaction for them since they don’t use it.

Looks like with Voice over, iOS 17.2.1, and Venmo version 10.32.07 you cannot
type in a venmo user in the search field with VO running. Voiceover speaks and
enters in letters and symbols that you are not typing.

You use to be able to dictate in the search field, but if you try, the
information is blank in the search field.

Just an FYI.

Re: Fastmail Issue

2023-10-13 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,

You can also access the profile via the QR code that appears on the page
for generating app specific passwords via their web interface and
settings and integrations tab. Once you select iPhone for device what
you want it to access specifically and generate password the QR code
will be on screen and i had no issue pointing my iPhone camera at it and
grabbing it that way.

Re: Email Providers

2023-10-10 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,

When I left GMail for the bulk of my email activities I went with a paid
plan from www.fastmail.com. I know some balk at the idea of a paid email
provider but the advantage is no ads, great support the few times I've
needed to use it. Like GMail I can set up my rules server side and they
sync across clients and devices and their web interface while not maybe
the most intuitive is by and large accessible.

It behaves well whether i"m on a Windows based or apple based device and
also gets along with groups.io which sometimes iCloud email tends not to do.

I hope that helps.

Take good care,

Robin

Sonos, we would never have known the power surge had even
happened.  None of them was more than two years old.  My

there is some kind of design flaw in the Sonos 1s that renders
them susceptible to this, since none of our other Sonos

Hi Paul,

I know exactly what you are experiencing.  I find that once I flick to
page 1 exploring around the upper part of the watch screen gets me to

stuff with which I do not want to deal. Perhaps that'll help.

appropriate workout and flick down to get to page 1 and then double tap the end
button. That resulted in a summary of the workout showing duration, average
heart rate, calories and so on. I then pressed the done button to get back to
the watch face.

Since upgrading to Watch OS 8 I can no longer reliably get to the page where I
can end the workout. Instead flicking down gets to a page about playing the
next music track which does not work because the watch is not set up to play
music. Note that I do not want to play any music anywhere during the workout. I
do not know why the workout now wants to play music.

Any thoughts on why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?

Many thanks … Paul Hopewell

Hi,
I’m with Mary I haven’t had any major problems with the standard ones that come
with Apple devices. But I did want to chime in and say that it’s been my
experience that if you upgrade to the 2 meter or 6ft long version of Apple’s
lightning cable it does seem to be slightly thicker and thus seems to be
sturdier than its shorter counterpart. Perhaps that might be worth
investigating as it might be more to the liking of those having difficulties.
I know that if one has Apple Care you can get a free standard cable replacement.

Anything from my old IPhone 5, 5S, 6Plus, 6S, a few Apple TV 4's, etc.

Point is, after about 2 or 3, if I'm lucky, months roughly, it seems like the
end of the insolation right where the lightning connector is that goes into the
device, that area seems to keep getting cut/torn. Usually it's not so bad that
the cable stops working, but it's bad enough that it definitely has the
potential that at any moment, it could get worse. I have one cable now which
is almost 98% sebbered all the way through both the insolation and the actual
wire itself. It's pretty pathetic. It seems like most all my cables
eventually are getting to this point, and I swear, I'm not misusing them. I'm
just plugging them in, and unplugging them as normal.

Apparently, I'm by far not the first person who's had this issue. If you
just Google online, you'll find lots of forums and blogs, etc. of people who've
had the same issue quite regularly. So apparently, it must not be just me.

Is it just these things are really badly designed? I'm on hold right now
waiting for Apple to pick up to see if maybe they can replace a few of these
chords, but I'm not very hopeful. They might, but I'm not counting on it.

I'm just wonderring if any of you guys have also found your cables tearing,
getting cut, or worse on a consistent basis right at the tip of the cord like I
am. If so, what are you all doing to get around this, so you don't have to
keep buying cord after cord after cord every few months. This alone is
starting to make me reconsider iOS devices. At least, ones with lightning
connecters.

Lightning's great, but the cords appear to be crap in my opinion based soly
on what I so far have observed. Again, that's stated as an opinion, not a
fact. Keep that in mind.

Re: comparing: Openbook vs K1000

2016-03-30 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
Not sure if this thread has been halted yet so I'll be brief and plead
ignorance on its closure if it's happened. However, I have used both and
find each to be comparable in terms of functionality. I can only speak to my
own experience and in recent years tech support from Openbook has featured
more blind people providing service and assistance than that of Kurzweil.
That's not necessarily a detriment but what eventually drove me to OpenBook
was a problem Kurzweil never could solve for me. Of course this was merely
one specific situation and that's by no means an indication of how others
would fare. But as I said for the basic daily functions one might use it for
I found both programs to be quite on par one with another.

I hope that helps.

Hi,

Yes, it will be run on the virtual machine on the Mac as well as on a
window laptop itself.
The reason why I brought up this topic is because i'm rather bias
towards the k1000 has been for years. I just want to get some non-bias
opinion on it.
I think the pearl camera is around $1000US or there about. This is all
going to be funded, and the organization that doing the assessments
favor the openbook/pearl package, which is around $2000US or there
about. Like I said, because i'm bias to k1000, and also somewhat
against Freedom SCientific, i just want some clarification. Thus, I
just want to make sure that i'm not getting something that it is not
useful for me.
Also, there were talks that k1000 will be eventually available for the
MacOS, as far as when and how, is yet to be known.
And lastly, I do put OT = (off topic) on my subject line.

Thanks very much for those who reply off and on list.

Re: Cleaning IPhone screen, perhaps an obvious question

2016-03-18 Thread Robin Frost
Hi,
I usually use the iKlear moistened wipes for cleaning screens.
What’s the difference you might ask?
to me it’s not only the amount of moisture as these have less and what liquid
is used dries almost instantly. It’s also tailor made not to conflict with the
coating others have mentioned. I would think that baby wipes given their
original intended purpose would have more liquid present on them than other
sorts of moistened cloths for the stated purpose.
I also only go to them as a last resort if there’s a speck of dirt or something
I can feel that a dry microfiber cloth doesn’t disperse.
I hope that helps.

Subject: Cleaning IPhone screen, perhaps an obvious question

This probably to most of you is gonna seem like a really dumb thing to do, but
I'm curious, not so much if you all think it's a good idea, as much as how many
of you all do this same exact thing. I did this the other night when my mom
was up in my room, and she just about strangled me, saying how bad of an idea
it was. Not sure why though. I've done this now for so long, and every time,
it's never caused dammage.

So, here's my question. How many of you, when your screen gets really dirty
will actually take a fully moisted babywipe straight from it's container, and
apply it to the bare screen? These I'm using are Huggy's non scented, non
lotion. They don't have powder, nor allo or anything in them. So, I can't
imagine why it would be that bad. Now, if they did? That would be another
story. What do you all think. Based on the fact they don't have any of that
stuff, can you see any reason why this would be a dumb move?

Re: CORRECTION TO: RE: Help with Gmail and storage

2015-08-30 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
It's also very easy to do this email client side if you operate your
accounts via imap rather than pop as I've just switched to myself.
I haven't had to visit the web interface except to set up filters very often
at all since going to the IMAP protocol and I used to have to visit the web
interface multiple times daily for one thing or another like rescuing
messages from the spam folder.

I hope this helps.

Subject: CORRECTION TO: RE: Help with Gmail and storage

I inadvertently typed the word "older", in my previous post to this thread,
when I meant to type "newer".

The corrected version follows:

Mark

Hello Brian,

First, let me say that the native Apple mail application works just fine
with gMail in both Yosemite and in the soon-to-be-released El Capitan
operating system.

Second, the reason your gMail account reached its storage limit is because
of the way Google handles message tagging.

There is a lot of information on the web about how Google handles mail, with
regard to labels but the long and short of it is the following:

1.
In order to be considered gMail compatible, a mail client must automatically
move all deleted mail to the Trash folder on the gMail server. That is to
say, the message must be labeled as Trash. Both the latest version of Apple
Mail and MS Outlook 2010 and newer do this.

2.
If your mail client does not do this, then you, as the user, must move
unwanted messages to the Trash folder, manually from within the Mail client.
For example, when I use Office Outlook 2007, instead of simply pressing the
Delete key on my keyboard, I tap the Applications Key, then select Move To,
then select Trash. This only takes about a second longer than just pressing
the delete key but it must be done if I want gMail to behave as expected.

Okay, okay, getting down to the answer to your question:

To reclaim your gMail storage space:

1.
Assuming you're in the United States, go to http:// mail.google.com and log
into your gMail account from your preferred web browser.

2.
Go to the All Mail Folder.

3.
Select all of the messages.

4.
Activate the Move To Trash Button. Doing this will "move" all of your
messages to the Trash folder. To be more exact, all of the messages will be
labeled as Trash.

5.
Open the Trash folder.

6.
Empty the Trash folder by clicking the Empty Trash button.

Finally, note that unless you change the default gMail settings, all
messages labeled Trash will automatically be deleted after 30 days.

Good Luck,

Mark

Hey all,

After the debacle that was I believe Mavericks and gmail not playing well
together I moved everything to Apple mail. I was able to set my gmail
account to forward everything to my Apple mail and all has been fine since
then until now. I just found out that my gmail account is now completely
full all free 15 gigs.. So my question to those of you who are still using
the gmail website with VoiceOver is how with this new look gmail which by
the way at first glance is awful with VO how do you first delete what is in
your inbox and then how in the world do you permanently delete old trash
mail so it is not taking up space. This new look gmail keeps wanting to tell
me social stuff and show me things from youtube. Very annoying and not very
straight forward. Thanks,

2012-05-10 Thread Robin Frost
Hey Esther
thank you for the thorough lessons which you share so generously. You don't get
paid enough for this job (smile).
In your time with this app have you figured out how one easily adds a bird to
favorites?
thanks so much for all your sharing on this list.

Subject: searching in iBird [was Re: iBird]

Hi Gigi and Christine,

There's an extensive set of help instructions under the "help" button, but I'll
try to summarize. The search button (second button of five on the bottom of the
screen) brings you to a screen with different search categories as well as a
search field where you can type in criteria. As you add criteria and move back
to the search page, you're told how many birds match your criteria, and then
you can either continue to set search criteria until you double tap the "View"
button in the top right corner, or decide to start an entirely new search by
double tapping the "Reset" button in the top left corner.

Here's an example. Double tap the "search" button. The search categories are
grouped under headings "Basic Group", "Song", "Body Related", "Flight Related",
"Pattern Related", "Head Related", and "Miscellaneous". So let's say I wanted
to search for birds that are observed in Texas during May, according to a
particular song pattern. Under the "Basic Group" heading there's an option for
"Observed State/Month". Double tap this, and on the State/Month page, first set
the state to "Texas" using the picker item on the top half of the screen. Then
flick down to select the month of "May" by double tapping to check this box.
Once you set this combination, the heading at the top of the screen will change
to "State/Month" (424). The button at the top right is "Clear All" to reset
your choices on this screen, and at the top left is "Search, back button" to
return to the main search screen, which will now announce "424 birds matched"
for the heading at the top of the page. For this page, the "Reset" button is at
the top left, and the "View" button is at the top right.

Now, let's add a search by "Song Pattern", which is one of the two categories
under the "Song" heading search category on the main search page. The options
are "Falling", "Flat", "Rising", and "Sing-song". Each time you double tap a
category, you'll get examples of this pattern as well as checking the button,
which you can uncheck either by double tapping the category again, or by
flicking to the button and double tapping. Each specific search screen lets you
clear all search criteria with a "Clear All" button in the top right, and
return to the main search screen with a "Search, back button" in the top left.
In addition, once you return to the search field, the number of matched birds
in the heading at the top of the page gets changed, and the entry under the
search category gets amended. (For the "Observed State/Month" category this is
only the number of birds, since you could have selected multiple months). So
let's say I choose "Sing-song" for the song pattern and return to the search
page. There are still 95 birds. I select "Song" under the "Song" heading
search category, and double tap "Quack-quacking". (I'm not going to list the
song types on this screen -- this is a really long list). Again, this
demonstrates the song and also checks the button, and if I want to uncheck it I
flick right and double tap or just double tap the category again. As before, I
can use the "Clear All" button at the top right or the "Search, back button" at
the top left to return to the main search screen. You can check multiple
categories, before returning to the main search screen, but I'll just choose
one. I now have 4 birds matched that are observed in Texas in May, with a
"Quack-Quacking" song and a "Sing-song" song pattern. Each of these selections
is noted as I flick through the relevant search categories.

To view the matched selections, double tap the "View" button at the top right.
I get entries for "Gray Catbird", "Northern Mockingbird", "Northern Shoveler",
and "Reddish Egret", with brief descriptions. To actually play the song and
get detailed information, double tap on a selection, then double tap the
"Speaker small" button in the bottom left corner. There are multiple sample
tracks for this bird, and also a list of similar sounding bird calls.

If you want to just type in a search entry to add in the search field on the
main search page, just double tap the "Search" button in the bottom right
corner of the virtual keyboard to add it. The problem is knowing what
categories to use. If I type in "red", the matched entries go down to 1 bird
(the "Reddish Egret". To remove my typed search keyword I have to flick to the
"clear text" button in the search box and double tap to remove it.

Hope this helps. I learned on one of the free, lite versions for iBird tha
