Hello,
Have you logged this with Apple Accessibility/ Maybe they can assist. If not,
it might be good for them to know about the issue, so they can investigate it.

Re: Converting power point into accessible format

2024-02-18 Thread Suzanne Erb
Hello,
I have used Scribe, and it does work well, but it is not free. What I like
about Scribe vs. Scribe for Meetings is that with Scribe, you can access the
information at any time; it belongs to you. With Scribe for Meetings, the
meeting host or professor can limit your access to viewing the powerPoint
during the actual time for the meeting. I prefer listening to the lecturer and
reading the powerPoint in Braille, not necessarily simultaneously. It depends
on the content being shared. I like to have choice.
But opening the PowerPOint in Keynote gives you the option to view it
in an accessible way, and it’s free.
Of course, if your university purchases a site license to Scribe, then
it could, theoretically, make all campus documents accessible for a price.
Anyway, the more tools you have in your toolbox, the more you will be
able to access. Yes, universities are supposed to provide you with accessible
materials and they should; but they can’t provide everything.
Best,
Suzanne

Re: Converting power point into accessible format

2024-02-17 Thread Suzanne Erb
Hello,
You might try opening the Powerpoint in Keynote, then go to the View menu and
go down to View as Outline and
select that option.
You will be able to read the text, but it may not present some of the
non-text materials. I’ve done it previously, and have been told that sometimes
it does not provide everything; but it should give you enough information to be
able to understand the Powerpoint.

Re: Shortcut for next and previous message.

2024-02-15 Thread Suzanne Erb
Hello,
I don’t know of a shortcut, but if you leave the message that you are currently
reading open, then use Command plus accent, it will probably bring you back to
your messages table. then you can just use your up and down arrows to find the
next and previous messages. All this time, your message that you had ben been
reading will still be there, right where you left it. It’s much simpler than it
sounds.
So, not a real shortcut, but it does work.
Thanks,
Suzanne Erb

Hello,
Do you have single key QuickNav on? If so, you will run into problems typing. I
don’t know if this is a bug, or if it is a work in progress, but I keep having
to turn it on and off, depending on what I’m trying to accomplish. Toggle Vo-Q

Good luck.

Hello,
If you’re just recording lectures using a Mac, you can use QuickTime Player. It

I also wonder whether it might be helpful to contact Apple Accessibility
877-204-3930. Perhaps you can show them what you are experiencing so that they
can address it in a future update.

Re: Braille SupportFixes

2024-01-22 Thread Suzanne Erb
Hello,
Have you contacted Apple Accessibility about the bugs you are experiencing? I
know it sometimes feels like you’re talking to thin air, but they are more
likely to fix things when bugs are documented with them.
It’s also particularly helpful if you can be specific and showing them actual
examples that you are encountering.
Good luck.

Re: Zoomax E-reader again

2024-01-20 Thread Suzanne Erb
Hello,
When you remove your card, are they still in the internal drive of your Zoomax?
When your sd or other device is attached to your Zoomax, all the files will
appear in the book reader.
If they are still on the internal drive, you can delete them if you
don’t want them to remain there.

Re: Question about outlook

2024-01-19 Thread Suzanne Erb
Hello,
At my most recent job, I was encouraged to use Outlook, but I didn’t. I was
able to just set up my employer’s account in Mail. No one ever knew that I did
not use Outlook.
I was surprised at how easy it was to set up. I believe it was
considered an "Exchange account'. Unfortunately, I don’t remember exactly how I
did it, but it was certainly doable. All of my mail showed up in my"All
Inboxes” section with no problem.
Perhaps someone else on the list can give you further instructions, but
I can definitely say that I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked.
Also, I was able to use Pages and TextEdit for word processing. I was
able to save documents as Word documents with no problem. Granted, I didn’t
have to use crazy formatting, but I never had any issues
Hope everything works out well for you.

Virus Alert Etc.

2024-01-14 Thread Suzanne Erb
Hello Everyone,
I apologize in advance for the cross posting. I accidentally opened a website I
didn’t want to open, and ow I keep receiving messages that I need to renew my
virus protection, which of course is a lot of junk.
When I go into the notification Center, and hit VO-Command-Space, I can
close it, but it comes right back. I know there is a way to clear this notice
for good, but I can’t think of the keystrokes to accomplish this. I have not
activated anything, but I would like to get rid of this notification.
Thanks in advance for the assistance, and again, I am sorry for the
cross-posting.
Be Well,
Suzanne

Hello,
The only way I have been able to get rid of things like disk not ejecting
properly is holding down the Fn, VO, and hitting the o key. Then I get a menu
with choices, including the close button.
That generally seems to work.
Happy notice squelching,

Re: Focus Issues since Sonoma Upgrade

2023-10-03 Thread Suzanne Erb
Hello,
I’m on the phone with Apple Accessibility now. Apparently, someone else has
reported this issue. Someone thought I was referring to iOS, but they did
actually find a report of something similar happening on Sonoma. Apparently,
they are aware of the issue and are working in it.
I am on hold. If I learn anything, I’ll report back.
Cheers,

Focus Issues since Sonoma Upgrade

2023-10-03 Thread Suzanne Erb
Hello,
Ever since upgrading to Sonoma, I have been experiencing focus issues. I’ve
gone over my settings, and I don’t think I’ve made any drastic changes that
could account for this.
I can’t even write an e-mail without having to check it thoroughly. I do have
my trackpad turned off.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best,

Re: Accessibility on Mac OS with VoiceOver

2023-01-25 Thread Suzanne Erb
I have found that I can read Microsoft materials just fine on my Mac, and I can
save materials written in Pages, Numbers, etc., as Microsoft Word or Excel
formats, whichever is necessary.
Microsoft Teams is a bit of a problem, but then again, Teams takes some
getting used to, and Microsoft should address this.
I can participate in meetings using Teams, but I have not figured out how to
schedule meetings using Teams.
I have also ben able to participate in chats using Teams, but it is not
my preferred way for conversing with others on my team.

Re: When It Comes to iPhone, Are You All Thumbs?

2023-01-18 Thread Suzanne Erb
Hello,
I almost never use my thumbs to type. My thumbs are rather small, so I
primarily use my index finger to type. Sometimes I type with my left hand,
sometimes my right. I always use touch typing.
When actually sending a text, I often use the dictate feature within
the messages app itself, and then correct mistakes once it’s been typed. I
find that Siri works better sending texts within the messages app, rather than
just asking her to send a text from outside the app.

Re: Some Mac questions

2022-08-14 Thread Suzanne Erb
Hello,
The command for sending an e-mail is Command-Shift-D.
In general, to find application specific commands for each application,
use your voice-Over keys plus m
to view th menus. Use your right and left arrows to navigate between
categories, and the up and down arrows to look at all the choices unbder each
menu.
If I need to provide a document in Word format, I usually write the
document in Pages and save it as a .docx file.
If I generally use TextEdit or Pages.
Best,
