Re: Anyone else noticed that notification sounds stopped working after upgrading to IOS 15?

2021-09-30 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello Donna, and list,

I have noticed this issue since upgrading. It is rather frustrating. I
have an iPhone 12 Mini. As well as a series 5 watch. I don't run all the
Apps possible on my watch, or receive all my notifications on there. So
I can't speak for how the watch is functioning.

Although, I do seem to be aware of the notifications that do come to it.

However, with my phone sometimes I will get notification sounds. Most of
the time, I do not.

This evening we used Uuber Eats for dinner, and I was beginning to
wonder why I hadn't heard anything. I picked up my phone, and it is a
good thing that I did. The delivery person was there. But while the
notification was there, a sound didn't happen.

I sure hope if a small update is put out soon, that it fixes this issue.
I too have tried rebooting my phone. As well as shutting off the focus
options. But this doesn't seem to matter.

So no, it is definitely not just you. I hope this helps. I am sorry
though I don't have any possible solutions.

Notification sounds are fine on my iPhone (running iOS 15), so this isn't
happening to everyone. I don't know what the circumstances might be that give
rise to the problem.

I've already started using the new focus options, which are a valuable addition
to the operating system.

Re: Interested in purchasing a Macbook Air

2021-08-21 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

First of all, I would like to say thank you to all of you who took the
time to try and help me out. I really appreciate all the great
information, and thoughts. It has really helped me to understand things,
when it comes to Macbooks.

Karen asked if I would like to explain my goals. I appreciate this,
because I think that could be helpful. I think it might help me figure
out what exactly I might need.

So my main goal is to be able to purchase a device, such as a Mac, or an
iPad, so that I can record audio. I am huge into collecting audio
described content. We have Spectrum cable. Some of the channels that
carry audio described content that I would like to capture, don't carry
the audio description over my cable box.

However, I can get it, using the Spectrum App.

So I would like to be able to use a program like audio hijack, and
capture the streaming audio. I want to go to the Spectrum site, and
stream the channel I want, and capture the audio description.

That is the main thing I am hoping to do. I could use my windows laptop.
But in order to do this, I would have to go through many steps to make
this happen. Including purchasing a sound card.

But then I would not be able to easily access my laptop for other
things. Such as checking mail, and all the other things that I do.

These are my thoughts. What do you all think?

I would consider purchasing an iPad. I am open to doing this. But when I
had one years ago, the main thing I didn't care for, was how the screen
would sometimes be in colomns. There didn't seem a way to make this
optional. Or stop it from happening. I found this to be rather
frustrating, and chalenging for me.

But also, does the audio hijack program even work on an iPad?

Thank you, and I look forward to hearing what you all might have to say.

It seems important here, because you will want the hardware to support

I hope? this offer comes from a reliable source, so the machine is as

Do you want to share more on your goals?

Hello to all who responded to this.

First of all, thank you so very much. This is why I am very grateful for
lists like this. It is helpful for someone like myself who is
interested. But also who doesn't know enough, to know what really to
look for.

I really appreciate this. I wasn't planning to make this purchase, until
I had some other thoughts and opinions. I have learned that when making
such a purchase like this, all the information I can have, helps me to
make the best decision.

I will not be buying this Mac Air. I think now it makes sense as to why
it is such a deal. Well, according to the App my boyfriend got this
from, anyway.

I'm not sure if this was the one from Walmart, or not. I didn't even
know, in all honesty, that Walmart was selling Mac products. But I
wouldn't purchase such things from Walmart.

My boyfriend has a few different Apps that he checks out regularly, and
they share all kinds of different deals with him. He knew I was
interested in something like this. So he past it on to me. Like myself,
he doesn't know enough about them, to really know what to look for.

Thank you again. I really do appreciate it.

Using an older Macbook, with Audio Hijack

2021-08-18 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I have an older Macbook that was given to me, probably about 4, or 5
years ago. It was used when I got it, and I was told that it couldn't be
upgraded. It runs, Yosemite.

Honestly, I haven't used it all that much, as I had hoped to do. There
are many reasons for this.

However, I wanted to ask what you all thought about a few things.

First of all, does anyone know how the Spectrum cable App works with the
Mac?

Has anyone tried it?

I know it works quite well on my iPhone.

I am wanting to capture some shows, with audio description, using the
Spectrum App. I want to do this for myself, because I can't enjoy the
shows with audio description, when using my cable box.

So I was wondering, could I use the Spectrum App, and a program like
Audio Hijack, to record stuff?

Is this at all possible?

And could I possibly use the latest version of audio hijack? Or would I
likely have to use an older version, due to what my Mac is running?

Any help, or thoughts would be very much appreciated. Also, if you need
any information from me, please let me know.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: Questions regarding hard drives

2019-01-22 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello Simon and list, thank you for this information. I really appreciate it.
I am not using the latest operating system. My Mac uses Yosemite. From what I
understand, I cannot upgrade this. So, what kind of tools are out there, to be
able to write to an in TF S Dr.?
And how accessible are they?

I am very new at using a Mac. I still have a whole lot to learn. This is a bit
overwhelming for me. But at the same time, I am enjoying the challenge.

Thank you,

Terri

Questions regarding hard drives

2019-01-21 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I've asked this before. So I do apologize for needing to ask again. But
unfortunately I get confused about this, and can't seem to keep it
straight in my head.

Now I have 2 external hard drives. They are currently connected to my
windows laptop. I know for sure that the main 1 I use, is using the file
type, NTFS. So I am pretty sure the other 1 is as well.

Am I to understand correctly, that if I connect these drives to my Mac
laptop, that I can read the contents of the drives, but that I can't
write to them?

Or is this the other way around?

Or wrong altogether?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Needing some thoughts and advice

2018-12-20 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I’ve written to this list a few times. But it has been a while. I have some
questions I could use some thoughts on.

I was given a Mac laptop a couple of Christmas’s ago. It runs Yosimitte, and
can’t be upgraded. It was a friend’s of mine. So when I start it up, it still
shows her as the owner.

I’ve wanted to start using this laptop. I have a little bit, but not too much.
However, I am having a pretty big problem with my windows laptop. So I really
want to start making use of the Mac, if at all possible.

My 1 question is this.
If the Mac still shows my friend as the owner, then will I likely even be able
to sign in to my Apple account?
If so, how would this work?

Also, I asked this before. But it isn’t something I understand too well.
I have 2 external harddrives that I would want to connect up to the Mac. I use
them both regularly, and they both have a lot of files and folders on them.
Some of the stuff, I share with a friend, regularly, using Dropbox.

So if I connect these harddrives, will I still be able to view all my files and
folders?
And if I share them with anyone who uses windows, will they be able to access
them without any issues?
Or is this something I will now have to be concerned about?

Also, how accessible is Dropbox on the Mac?

And what about Sendspace?
Could I still use this?
Does it tend to run well on the Mac?
Or can it have issues?

I am sure I will likely have more questions. But this is what I can think of
for now. Any thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Few questions regarding my Mac laptop

2018-05-05 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I have had my Mac laptop for a while now. It is something I really want
to learn how to use. But I seem to be struggling with it.

First of all, can I connect my 2 external hard drives to the mac?

They are currently connected to my windows laptop, and so I wasn't sure
if they could be connected to the Mac.

Also, a while back, I asked about Zoom Text for the Mac, and possibly
using the Mac's magnification. My boyfriend is visually impaired, and
has some useable vision.

We tried the command that was recommended. But this just seemed to turn
on and off the bacllight for the keyboard. So I don't know if we did
something wrong. Or if this Mac I have is different, or works differently.

It's running Yosemitte.

Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Turning off sppeech on the mac, and using something like zoomtext

2018-04-24 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I apologize for the odd subject line. I wasn't sure quite how to ask
these questions.

Anyway, I need to turn off the speech on my Mac laptop.

Could someone please tell me how to do this?

Also, is there a program such as zoomtext, or something similar, that
will make the laptop user-friendly for someone who has limited vision?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Setting up a mac to use my account

2018-03-13 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I honestly can't remember if I already asked this, or not. So if I did,
I do apologize.

I have a Mac laptop that was given to me. It was a dear friend's of
mine! It is running Yosemite and can not be upgraded.

When they gave it to me, they didn't clear off their account, from what
I can tell. I don't have any CD's or anything like that to go with it,
or to re-install anything.

So can I somehow set it up to use my account?

If so, what would I need to do?

Also, is there a website I can go to, where I can read about different
Apps I could use with my Mac?

Thank you,

Terri

wanting to sell my Mac laptop

2018-02-17 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I got permission from Mark Taylor to make this posting.

I would like to sell my Mac. It's running Yosemite, and from what I
understand it can not be upgraded.

I tried looking up the specs, and writing them down as I heard them. I
do apologize if any of this information isn't correct. But if any of you
have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask them.

when I looked up the information, it stated version 2 duo, 22 GZ, 2
core, 4 MB cash.

My reason for wanting to sell it is that I don't use it. I got it about
a year ago, if I am remembering correctly. I've only turned it on twice.
It does start up pretty quickly, and I was able to figure out how to
connect it to my wIFI.

It will come with just the charger. Also, it has a battery, but it
doesn't hold a charge.

If anyone might be interested in purchasing this Mac, please contact me
off-list with offers. I ask that you pay using Paypal, or the Cash App.

My email address is below.

Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Now I will be honest with you all. I don't know what to ask for this
Mac. I don't know much about them, and I don't understand them. I will
give you the little information I know of this 1.

First of all, it is a laptop. It has a battery that no longer holds a
charge. Also, it runs Yosimitti. I do apologize, as I couldn't remember
how to spell that.

Anyway, it can not be updated, from what I understand.

It has an Intel core 2 duo processor.

numbers of processors, 1

number of cores, 2

Memory 2MB

I know this is a Macbook Pro. If knowing this is helpful?

So if anyone is interested, please contact me, and we can discuss a price.

Sendspace, Dropbox, and Open-drive

2017-06-18 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

Around Christmas time I received an older Mac laptop. It runs Yosemite. I am
still learning how to use it and have a ways to go.

But I was wondering, can I use Dropbox, Sendspace, as well as Open-drive on my
Mac?
If so, will I need to install certain versions?

Thank you,

Mac and Itunes

2017-01-25 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

A while back, I joined this list and mentioned I was getting an older
Macbook. I don't know the model of it, or anything like that. I did get
it, but I haven't started using it. I wanted to wait until I got moved,
to get started with it.

I will admit, I have always wanted a Mac, but I don't know the first
thing about them!

The laptop runs Yosemite.

I was wondering, because this is a Mac, would Itunes work wonderfully
with it?

I sure know that it doesn't with my windows Laptop, and I only use it if
I absolutely have to do so!

If ITunes does work that well, which version might be best for the Mac
running Yosemite?

Any thoughts, or help would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Terri

Possibly getting an older Mac

2016-12-05 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I joined this list to get some information I am not sure where to get
anywhere else.

A great friend of mine has a Mac laptop. I'm not sure which one, as she
didn't say. I am assuming there are different ones?

She hardly uses it, and has cleaned her stuff off of it. She wants to
give it to me as a gift, because she just really never used it.
She says that it can't be upgraded, and that the battery is bad.
But this part really doesn't concern me all that much. My windows 7
laptop has a useless battery.

But here is where I am concerned.
Even though she is giving it to me as a gift, should I consider
accepting it?

What happens if I can't upgrade it?
It's running Yosemite.

I have wanted a mac for years! But due to how much they unfortunately
cost, my chances of actually ever having one, is rare.

But if I get this Mac from my friend, what could I do with it?
If it can't be upgraded, won't most Apps no longer work?
Also, what sorts of things can I do with the mac?
What kinds of programs can I put on to it?

And last but not least, if I've never used one before, how do I even
begin to learn how to do this?

I have an Iphone 5S, and an Ipad mini4th Generation.
But I would imagine that the mac works way differently from those. And I
know without a doubt it's way different from my laptop running windows.

If anyone could give me any thoughts, or suggestions, I would more than
appreciate it.
Also, any sites that might be helpful to know about, will also be
appreciated.
I go to get the mac, if I want it, this Saturday.

Thank you,

Terri
