RE: Upgrading to Mavericks, help please for a new user
Hi, Upgrading will not effect bootcamp. If you want to upgrade and not do a clean install all you have to do is go to the software update and tell it to install Maverick. It is wise to backup first but it seems to be a very safe installer. Once you've started the installation just wait and follow the prompts. It is very simple. Yes I have used it. All you do is swipe your finger just like when you unlock the phone instead of typing in your password. You do have to enable this feature before it works though. Hi there, I'm hoping someone might have a good answer for me. If you recall, I emailed mentioning that there had been a change regarding my own personal contact information in my contacts list on my IPhone. Well, when I was using Siri, I noticed it no longer called me by name and didn't seem to know who I was. Also, I noticed that when I'd look in my contacts list, before actually going through the list, it would say something like My number and then say my number. This time, it no longer presents my number. Did I somehow unregister my phone or do something with the information my phone had about me? How do I recover it? Do I have to do something via Itunes, or go somewhere in the settings? Any help would be appreciated, please. Thank you. RE: Questions about iPad
Hi Gigi, I think any of the options are very good. The camera in the iphone is a much higher resolution but the Ipad camera is good enough for most things. As for size and price considerations she might look at the Ipad mini. It is definately smaller and easier to deal with than the Ipad. The bottom line for me though is how much do I want to use the device and how much stuff do I want to carry around. I take my phone everwhere I go so I can use it for all the apps I want at anytime. If I use the Ipad, then I either have to carry it and a phone or leave it at home and then I don't have the option to use it until I get back home. This is the only real reason I would choose the Iphone. If your friend has any vision or wants to share the device with someone who has vision then the Ipad is much better for things like watching movies. RE: vm fusion
Hi, There are two ways to do this. First you can install Fusion and just tell it to use your bootcamp partition as your virtual machine. This would probably be the easies way to go if you already have bootcamp working. With this option you can either use Window from within the Mac by using Fusion or if you think you want to have all of your system resources available to Windows you can choose Bootcamp from the startup screen just like you are currently doing. As far as I know, if you want to switch entirely to Fusion without the above option, you would have to remove your Bootcamp partion, install Fusion and then reinstall Windows from within Fusion. Waht are the advantages/disadvantages? would it make the Windows side of my computer faster/more efficient to be running without the Mac portion running at the same time, for example? I know others ahve provided instructions, so I could search for those threads, if instructions were provided about the best way to search the mail archives, as I don't know. Also, my other question has to do with 10.8.2. I wondered, since I know some of you ahve had issues with Voiceover in 10.8.2, owudl yo urecommend I upgrade from 10.8.1? I am really wanting to improve my Spanish skills, but my Voiceover defaults to English each time I restart to English even though my system in in Spanish. I would install 10.8.2 in Spanish to avoid this, but don't want to make VoiceOver unreliable if 10.8.2 is still pretty buggy. Thanks for any help, and I hope this is all clear, being unrelated as both portiosn of the post are. Regards, harry
RE: Question about Navigon
Hello, I have been getting this error off and on all day. I think it is just because so many people are downloading so many updates. I got a new app called Transit times plus in the app store. It cost $2.99 and it works well with the maps program. I have been waiting for ever for a GPS to get that option, and now I can't get it on my iPhone! The other thing I noticed is that the App Store, if you do a search, is got a problem with voiceover, I'm sorry to say folks at Apple. I don't know what's wrong with it, but you can't scroll page downs. It looks like there's a lot of images there. RE: Passbook
Hi Paul, I have at least gotten it set up. When you open passbook the only clickable item is go to app store. This link opens the app store and brings up a list of apps that work with passbook Currently there aren't that many. There are apps for American Airlines, Fandango, Ticket master, United Airlines, Target, Wallgreens and a few more. As I understand it you download the apps you are interested in and open them. After setting them up, if you receive something like a boarding pass or coupon it will pop up in passbook when you are at say the Airport. There is currently a bug that a lot of people are having with passbook. When clicking on the go to app store link a message pops up saying unable to connect to the Itunes store. To fix this, go to settings, change the date on your phone to 2013, run passbook and then all works as it should. You can then change the date back. RE: weird problem with braille display
I have never had this problem but I wonder if some how you have the wrong Braille table loaded? Tommy -Original Message- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Eugenia Firth Sent: Friday, February 24, 2012 7:55 AM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: weird problem with braille display Hi guys. Before I write Apple about this, I would like to know if anybody else is having this problem. That way, I can sort of determine if it's my braille display or the way I'm pressing the keys on the keyboard. I have a Focus 40, but it's not Bluetooth. Although it seems a little better since the firmware update I did yesterday, when I write in grade 2 I get reversals. That is, I can type two or three letters or contractions, and when they are translated, they are reversed. For instance, just now I type the and sign, and when it came up on the display, I got the letters nad instead of and. The other weird thing is that letters or dots are not always input. Like I can type the letter n like I just did and I'll get the ar sign or I'll type a word and one of the letters will be missing. I just had to put the m back into the word missing because it wasn't on there, even though I typed it. Is anybody else having this weird problem? If not, what do you guys think I can do about it? Should I take the braille display off VoiceOver somehow and then put it back on? Regards, Gigi -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. RE: A few brief questions about Apple Wireless Keyboard
Hi, I haven't found how to jump from page to page but here are a few tips. control plus up arrow goes to the top of the page and control down arrow takes you to the bottom of the page. Double tap by pressing control option space. press the home button by pressing control option plus h. Also you can move to the next page by double tapping or pressing control option on the page number. When at the home screen on say page 5 if you press the home button it takes you to page one of the home screen. I hope this helps. more issues with mobileme
Hi all, I am having a little different problem with Mobileme. I got an account setup and I am now trying to let someone upload files to my public folder of idisk. I have the public folder setup to allow people to write to it and I have enabled a password for it. When My friend or myself try to log into the public folder the login goes as expected. Once logged in though, the controls that allow for uploads and downloads do not show up either using voiceover, Jaws or window-eyes. After messing around for a bit you can usually get a file downloaded but I cannot find a way to upload file from here. I have no problem uploading files as the account owner but the issue is if a guest wants to upload a file. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. RE: testing brailledisplays for mac and iphone4
Hi, I use the Braillex Trio with a MacBook pro. It works very well. I use it via bluetooth most of the time but it also works with a usb connection. Tommy -Original Message- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of William Windels Sent: Wednesday, February 23, 2011 7:55 AM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: testing brailledisplays for mac and iphone4 Hello all, I have tested some brailledisplays with iphone4 and macbook (last versions of the os). I am interested in one of the following displays: Eurobraille ESYS40 Papenmeier Trio focus 40 blue I was able to connect the esys40 with my macbook with bluetooth and usb. The bluetooth was only working when I put out the sd-card. With the iphone4 , I had no success at all. The iPhone was searching for a display but it wasn't possible for the iphone4 to see that display. The strange thing is that it has worked after some trial and errors with the iphone4 of another person. The only thing you can do for searching bluetooth devices with the iphone is in settings/global/bluetooth? The focus40 was working with the macbook but we haven't tested it with the iphone4. The Papenmeier Trio wasn't in the company to test this morning but any comments about this device for the iphone4 and the macbook are also very welcome. Also, is there an option on the iphone4 to set some options for the code that you need to use for pairing? On the macbook, there are some options to specify but, it seems , not on the iphone4.
