Re: Iphone Se.

2016-04-18 Thread Vivianna
i just turned it all the way up and had voiceover read the screen and, no, it
did not distort. but, with that being said, i don’t like to blast my little
phone speaker. it’s not really meant for high volume.
when i first got it, i was thinking that it did not sound as good as the 6 but,
i am used to it now and it doesn’t sound bad at all. i am using samantha
compact as well which makes it not sound great but, i like it better. HTH

i have the iPhone SE 64 gig and absolutely love this phone. it looks exactly
like an iPhone 5 or 5S. the battery life is amazing. i tested my battery and,
with heavy use, that means, listening to bard, using voiceDream, listening to
the news, using KNFB reader briefly, and talking on the phone for a few hours,
as well as texting and using facebook, this battery lasted me over 27 hours.
this phone has the best battery life of any iPhone that i have owned. and i
love the smaller size.
the sound, well, it’s not super great but, it’s a small speaker.
i am glad i got this new phone and sold my 6S. i hope they continue to offer
the smaller phones.

Re: siri and iphone

2016-03-22 Thread Vivianna
hey, i love the idea of the new iPhone SE and, i am going to buy one.
according to apple’s website, it’s the size of the iPhone 5 but with the power
of the 6S and better battery life than the 6S also. i love the idea of a
smaller phone that i can use with 1 hand when walking etc and that will fit
better in pockets. and, the 64 gig version will only be $499 outright. and,
you can buy a sim-free version which means it’s unlocked to any carrier.
anybody want my iPhone 6? :) $380 and it’s yours as soon as i get my new SE.
lol.
o.o yeah and the camera is 12 megapixels as well which will be great for
scanning text.

Great! i will be joining today!
just because this list used to be good in the past doesn’t mean we have to
stay and hope, maybe someday, things get better.
there are so many other relevent other lists around where i won’t have to
delete so many posts every day.
and, yes, we do need police. anarchy will never fly, neither here or in the
USA. or anywhere else for that matter. folks can not and will not ever police

My thinking is that there’s a delete key for a reason and further

I'm not proposing that overly prolicing makes a difference, just
that it's possible with an active list owner to create a community

a little strange. It doesn't affect how iOS or the phone works, but the fact
that this is even possible is very strange, and a little funny.

If you updated your phone to iOS 8.3, try the following:
First, remember that at the top of the screen, where your status is, 1 of the
items is your network. This tells you the name of the network you are using,
 ATT, Verizon, Virgin Mobile, etc.
Now open 1 of the following apps: Calendar, Notes, Weather, Music, Photos, or
Reminders. These are the apps I've tested so far.
With 1 of these apps open, now check your network name again. Does VoiceOver
still say the name of your network?
Mine does not. Visually, my phone is still showing the name of my network.
But VoiceOver says, Swipe down with 3 fingers to reveal the Notification
Center. Swipe up with 3 fingers to reveal the Control Center. Double tap to
 scroll to top.

So far, I've been able to verify this rather interesting behavior with 3
iPhone 6's. I'm going to try it on a 6 Plus shortly.

I'd like to know if anyone else is haring VoiceOver saying the same thing to
 them.

Might be another call to Apple Accessibility.

My mac won't say the letter T.

2015-04-09 Thread Vivianna
Hi.
yesterday i updated to the latest yosemite and, now my computer won’t say the
letter t. i had this same thing with different letters before but, alas, i
forgot how i fixed it.
i recall that i had to delete all of the voiceover settings and then go back
into voiceover utility and reset all my preferences there.
any help would be greatly apreciated.
this time i will write down the steps. :)

also, did you update yet? and, if you did, did your computer go back like mine

how to play midi files?

2015-02-12 Thread Vivianna
hi all.
i am trying to play simple midi files on my mac air, running the latest
yosemite and, i have absolutely no idea how to do it?
when i activate the button on the website to start the midi, it opens up
garageBand. i don’t know where to go or what to do from there. i do not see
the name of the file, any play or start or some such.
is it necessary for me to learn garageBand to play these files or, is there
another way to play them?
and, if i do need to use garageBand, is there any super simple, really really
easy beginner tutorial or podcast somewhere?
thanks much.

my experience upgrading to yosemite 10.10.2

2015-02-05 Thread Vivianna
hi all,
so, i decided to upgrade from mavericks to the latest yosemite a few days ago.
the first thing i noticed was, o.o crap, vmWare fusion 6.2 won’t work so, now i
am running the latest 7.2 version in demo mode.
next thing, programs like skype, mail, safari, did not work as usual. so, i
restarted the machine and, wow, some of that was magically fixed.
then, voiceover would not say the letters N and O. no matter where i was or
what i was doing, nothing in the N or O department. typing, or reading letter
by letter.
so, this morning i restarted again and, what do you know, now i can hear the
N’s and O’s again.
also, when using the backspace to delete or edit, voiceover would not speak at
all. i had to totally guess what i was doing. very weird, but, after the
latest restart this morning, i have that back as well.
all this is super strange.
does anybody have any ideas what was happening?
thanks for any input.

This is the first chance I have had to open the app. I hope you have read
the help info that is documented in the app. There are so many settings

 liking.

To answer yourquestion about using Google Maps, this needs to be install
on the phone first. When you open Blind Square, you can search for a
location or open your My Places to select a destination. Once this is
done, at the bottom of the screen in portrait mode you will hear VO
annouce route or something like that. Double tap on this and a new
screen will open. This is where you can choose the navigation apps for
GPS. The native map will be listed, as well as any GPS apps that you have
installed. Just double tap on one of them and the GPS app will open. You
then need to use the GPS app as if you had opened it on its own. There
are lots to learn about the app. I know that at applevis.com there have
been podcasts produce on how to use the app. I would do a search for
Blind Square to pull them up. HTH.

Re: VMWARE Website what a shambles?

2014-06-04 Thread Vivianna
Hi there,
i totally agree about VMware's website.
The best way i found to do it is to download a trial version then, when you
open it you will be asked for your license information.
and, yes, it took me quite some time mucking about to figure this out. lol.

 Hello.

This time it's not another VMWARE question but it's about their site.

If I said that I was on the VM website for almost 7 hours! You might ask what
i was doing on it. Well, for some days, I had not been able te log in to
download VMWARE 6.3 proffessional. In the end, I managed to log in with my
E-mail and Pass word to find that I was accessing my old VMWARE Fusion
licences. So in the end after trying to find my current licence, I decided to
log in with my Password and Customer number. What I could not understand
through this whole process, was what on earth were folders doing on it, as
you could delete folders and share them or combine folders. I couldn't
understand that. Then we came to the actual licence keys. Again you could
combine your licence keys or downgrade them and more besides. However for
some time I could not access the information I wanted without making it a CSV
file. I've tried talking to VMWARE about this but they are not too interested
 to change it.

Have others on this list had trouble getting what they want on the VMWARE
website? Can someone explain about the folder structure and licence key
 structure on their site please?

When I first started using Fusion in 2010, the site was not like this. I'm
happy to say I'll have Windows 7 on my I Mac later on so I can at least
download the new Focus Blue update.

Hey everyone. Ok, for those who were having the issue with youtube videos

Unfortunately, we will not be able to change the volume slider, so, you need
to completely remove the flash player from your system and reinstall it. To
do this, run the uninstaller that is in your utilities folder. Once that is
done, restart your mac. Now open the hard drive and go in to the library
folder, then go to internet plug ins. There was nothing still there related
to flash, but if there is on your system, delete it.
Now go in to your own folder and open the library folder within it. If you
don't see this folder, press command shift g and type ~/library then press
 enter.
Go to the caches folder and delete anything related to macromedia flash or
Adobe flash. Once that's done, go back to your home folder and open
preferences and do the same thing.
At this point, flash should be completely removed from your system. You can
now download the newest version from adobe's web site and install it. For me,
 this has everything working again.

Re: blind square

i absolutely love this app. i am still learning the new city that i have moved
to and, this app is great for that. yesterday, for example, i was on
paratransit. well, you know how they tend to drive you about, who knows where,
while on your way to your destination? i started my blind square app and just
had a listen as we were going along. we pulled into a parking lot, i shook the
phone and it told me we were at a grocery store. i asked the driver; hey, are
we at the grocery store and he said; we sure are.
it's great for learning new streets as well as what's around you when on out of
town trips also.
i do use my navigation apps with ear buds though instead of bluetooth. i think
it's just the nature of the beast but, things seem to be cut out completely or
the first part is chopped off.

Re: Pandora frustrations

2012-11-27 Thread Vivianna
ok, when you first open pandora it will start playing the last station that you
were listening to. flick left until you hear, backarrow. double tap there.
then just flick right and you will see all of the stations that you have
created.
you may end up with an advert when you first start as well, in which case you
have to get out of that first. there is usually a done button somewhere that
you can double tap on to get you back into your station.

Hello! I'm developer of BlindSquare. There is no try-and-buy option
since TTS costs always. You can still use Apple's returning policies,

About what BlindSquare does: It reports automatically street addresses
while you walk, next street crossing, automatic pedometer reading
(you have walked 700 meters in 7 minutes) and reporting of nearby
places by categories (it automatically picks most popular places
within selected radius, based on foursquare check-ins). This all
happens just by launching the app so it takes no time to start using
the app, even if you don't use FourSquare yourself.

If you take phone out of the pocket, you can search categories, set
reporting certain category on/off, look around (you get information
what kind of places and what street crossings are in different
directions), search with free search term, view information of places
(name, address, phone number, www-site, twitter feed), start
navigation to the place or do foursquare check-in.

When you jump into the bus, BlindSquare automatically notices it and
starts reporting street crossing while bus is making a turn so you can
 keep track where you are.

You can also add placemarks for yourself. They are synced to iCloud so
if you have several devices (for example iPad + iPhone), you always
get informed when you get near that place. Some users use this to give
warning about bus stop they need to get off.

Hopefully you won't have to create the vm again. However, just in case you

If you have a version of the vm on your backup - for instance, I know that
superduper completely backs it up - you can delete the folder for that
virtual machine in ~/Documents/Virtual Machines. the defective virtual
machine. Then you can drag and drop your backup version in finder to the
Virtual Machines window. As I recall, you then have to open it in finder
before it actually shows up again as a virtual machine in your virtual
machine library. You only lose whatever you did since the last backup. Of
course this is assuming that re-introduction of the backup doesn't give you
the same error. It really seems that this should be fixable in settings as
Mike says but I would have been furious if I had needed to reinstall Windows
 XP over again!

Re: VMWare Fusion questions; key mapping.

2012-06-25 Thread Vivianna
Hi All.
I am using fusion on my macBook air and i want to use the laptop layout with
window-eyes and NVDA. In the laptop layout the insert key is reassigned to the
caps lock key so that i can use the j k l, u i o, and 7 8 9 for the number pad.
I am not able to use the caps lock key for this purpose as, when i do, my
voiceover voice just says caps lock. So? How do you folks use the laptop
layout? Do i have to use some sort of key mapping program? Any help will be
greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

Using your air in public.

2012-03-14 Thread Vivianna
Hi all,
so, i went out and bought myself this super cool, super fast macbook air. now,
the reason that i bought this fine machine is because of it's small size and
portability. well, now that spring is here, i am wanting to take it out with
me to coffee shops etc. i live in a city and am concerned about the safety of
using such a machine in an outdoor public setting. i went to the mac online
store and looked up the kensington lock and, alas, it does not work with the
air.
so, here's my question to you all.
do you all take your portable machines out with you? and, if you do, what sort
of security measures, if any, do you take? have any of you had problems with
having your computers stolen? and, if so, what did you do? did you get it back?
i would be extremely upset if i had my machine stolen on one hand yet, on the
other hand, i do not want to be restricted to using it only in the safety of my
own home. if i wanted to stay at home, i would have purchased the less costly
mini.
i look forward to hearing your experiences and suggestions.
thanks much.

Re: Using your air in public.

2012-03-14 Thread Vivianna
Hi all,
i think you misunderstood me. yes, i have a case for my air and, i also carry
it in a backpack. what is my concern is having it stolen right out of my
hands. say, for example, that i am sitting outside at a coffee shop and typing
away on the computer with my earbuds in and someone just takes the machine and
runs off with it. this is my concern. even if i have my hands on it they can
still grab it and run.
are others afraid of such happening? am i being to paranoid? what do sighted
folks do with their expensive machines? do they just use them and not worry
about it?
i am off to check out these links now. thanks a lot.

If I usually sling it over one shoulder but if I need both hands I can put it

me. If you must lock it then you might want one of these:

 http://www.macworld.com/article/1158830/macbook_air_security_lock.html

where you attach a rigid case to the MacBook Air and that case has a standard
lock slot. You could also check into iAlertU which uses the MacBook's motion
sensors to trigger an alarm and notify you on your iPhone etc.
