I have a BrailleNote Apex at work, but only really use it as a braille
terminal. Do you think this would be from the BrailleNote word processor? I
could try creating one of these files and place it on a flash drive.

Thanks for the suggestion, I had not read the manual page for file in 30 years.
I like the new option to output mime types instead of standard strings.

Hey, no need to apologize. I figured as much that was the case.

Now, the question is, how can he convert them to Word, or txt?

That, I'm sorry, I don't know, although I might know someone who would. The
question is, she's been going through a lot of family stuff right now, so I
can't try asking her, but I'm not sure.

Note to Ben Bloomgren, I'm talking about both KJ and Mark schmitt, if you're

Yes, you’re right, I was thinking of an older device we used to have where you
could turn the device on its side and use the keys to enter in Braille. I
thought he had figured some way of doing it on the VRS. But I just responded
to C.G.’s reply and in fact the file was created on a Braille Note, not a VRS.

Hi,

A kwt file is a text file created on a HumanWare BrailleNote. The only files
you can actually create on a victor reader are recorded notes.

I have no direct knowledge of this file type either, but sometimes multiple
vendors use the same file extension. If you are at all comfortable with the
terminal do the following:

  1. Copy the file in the finder.
  2. open terminal.
  3. type the word file and a space and then paste what you copied in the
previous step.

At this point one of two things will happen:
  1. Your Macintosh might say you need the terminal programming tools or some
close equivalent and ask you to download them.
  2. it will just give you a summary of the file based on the first few lines.

The file command is used on all unix type commands it looks at the file
extension and the first few lines of the file and compares them with a "magic"
file to guess what type of file it is.

For example files that start with #!/usr/local/bin/perl are perl script files.

  Best wishes,

  Jonathan Cohn

Thanks John. I just got a bit more information from my husband. Turns out
he created the file on his Victor Reader Stream so would this have caused the
problem in copying it to the Mac? Could it be that perhaps the format is
somehow not a true .txt format? Virc mentioned in the link you sent isn’t
anything he has on the Windows computer so we aren’t sure where this came from.

Re: .KWT file Type?

2016-07-31 Thread Jonathan Cohn

Hi,

A kwt file is a text file created on a HumanWare BrailleNote. The only files
you can actually create on a victor reader are recorded notes.

.KWT file Type?

2016-07-31 Thread Eileen Scrivani
Hi,

Does any one know what a .KWT file type is on the Mac? My husband had copied a
number of .DOC & .TXT files onto the Mac and when he looked in the document
folder it was listing what was a .txt on Windows as a .KWT file extension.

Thanks.

Eileen
