I have a BrailleNote Apex at work, but only really use it as a braille terminal. Do you think this would be from the BrailleNote word processor? I could try creating one of these files and place it on a flash drive. Hey, no need to apologize. I figured as much that was the case. Now, the question is, how can he convert them to Word, or txt? That, I'm sorry, I don't know, although I might know someone who would. Yes, you’re right, I was thinking of an older device we used to have where you could turn the device on its side and use the keys to enter in Braille. I thought he had figured some way of doing it on the VRS. But I just responded to C.G.’s reply and in fact the file was created on a Braille Note, not a VRS. Re: .KWT file Type?
I have no direct knowledge of this file type either, but sometimes multiple vendors use the same file extension. If you are at all comfortable with the terminal do the following: 1. Copy the file in the finder. 2. open terminal. 3. type the word file and a space and then paste what you copied in the previous step. At this point one of two things will happen: 1. Your Macintosh might say you need the terminal programming tools or some close equivalent and ask you to download them. 2. it will just give you a summary of the file based on the first few lines. The file command is used on all unix type commands it looks at the file extension and the first few lines of the file and compares them with a "magic" file to guess what type of file it is. For example files that start with #!/usr/local/bin/perl are perl script files. Hi, A kwt file is a text file created on a HumanWare BrailleNote. The only files you can actually create on a victor reader are recorded notes. Re: .KWT file Type?
Thanks John. I just got a bit more information from my husband. Turns out he created the file on his Victor Reader Stream so would this have caused the problem in copying it to the Mac? Could it be that perhaps the format is somehow not a true .txt format? Virc mentioned in the link you sent isn’t anything he has on the Windows computer so we aren’t sure where this came from.
