Re: ABBYY FineReader Express OCR app on sale for 50% as today's MacUpdate Promo

2012-10-30 Thread Cheryl Homiak
Thanks. I was trying to figure out what version I have but it wasn't really
clear to me from the about window. I know i've done one upgrade since I
bought it and that's when we started seeing the duplicate buttons in the Quick
Tasks window. But the link you posted definitely showed as 10.6 when the dmg
was downloaded and opened. I'll have to go scouting this out eventually in case
I should be getting a new version.

 Hi Cheryl,

The current version (8.3) is supposed to be good for Mountain Lion,
and matches the version in the Mac App store that is rated for
Mountain Lion. There were comments in the mupromo page asking about
the version, because the default trial download and link from that web
site was for version 8.2, and the developer responded by saying you
 should download the version:
 http://www.abbyydownloads.com/FRMACLion/ABBYY_FineReader_Express.dmg

I don't know that there is an updated trial version for 8.3.

Hmm, this full current version link says 10.6; that wouldn't be new for

 have.

 Hi All,

This is a late alert, but the OCR app, ABBYY FineReader Express
version 8.3, is on sale for $49.99 as today's MacUpdate promo:
 http://www.mupromo.com/deal/13388/abbyy-finereader-express

This is half the regular price of $99.99, and is only good for the
next slightly over four hours. If you've never purchased a MacUpdate
promo before, you'll need to create a user account that involves a one-
time negotiation of a CAPTCHA. This gives you access to all your
receipts of purchases, serial numbers, and download links for the
applications you purchased at any later time. There is a trial
download link from the mupromo.com page, but I believe it's for the
previous version of the software, version 8.2. That means if you're
running Mountain Lion it won't pass the new GateKeeper security, I
think. And if you purchase it, you'll need to upgrade in order to run
 the license.

If you do decide to buy the product, you should download the full,
 current version of the app:
 http://www.abbyydownloads.com/FRMACLion/ABBYY_FineReader_Express.dmg
That way, you don't need to update versions from the trial version,
and you can just enter the serial number to run this.

Sorry for the late catch, but I picked this up off another list.
ABBYY FineReader Express will OCR to multiple languages -- most
European languages and Russian, but not Asian languages like Chinese.
And yes, it's accessible with VoiceOver.l

 HTH. Cheers,

 Estther
