Bootable Bigsur Backup?

2021-04-05 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
Have any listers successfully created a Bigsure bootable backup on an external
disk for a 2018 iMac? I used SuperDuper for this for many years on prior Mac/OS
releases which have rescued my system on several occasions but this no longer
works on Bigsur. I have looked at the Carbon Copy Cloner web site but this also
does not seem to easily fix this problem. It seems that I have to first install
Bigsur on my backup disk so that I can boot from it, but I am then unclear on
whether I can then use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to add my latest user
data to this external disk say every month or so. The problem seems to be that
Apple do not offer an interface for these products to copy the now protected
files to allow booting to an external disk.
Many thanks for any tips … Paul Hopewell

Bootable Bigsur Backup?

2021-04-08 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello Mark,
SuperDuper is still not working for me. I am on SuperDuper version 121 which it
says is the latest version and on Bigsur 11.2.3. I am trying to backup all
files from my internal SSD hard disk to a USB external SSD hard disk.
SuperDuper does not even prepare my disks prior to doing the copy.
It all worked fine with Catalina with the same disk configuration.
I will contact the developer.
Best … Paul Hopewell

Paul,

You need to fix this in the recovery partition. You need to enable booting of
external drives. HTH. Sorry can’t remember what the opsion is called, but you
should find it in the menu.

RE: Bootable Bigsur Backup?

2021-04-06 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Paul,

I can assure you that Super Duper works just fine with Big Sur.

I use it every week and continue to make bootable backups from my internal
drive to my external USB drive; and on occasion from one external drive to a
second external drive.

Just be certain that you are using the latest version of Super Duper.

I suggest that you contact the developer of Super Duper as he responds rather
quickly to inquiries. I do not have his contact email, at hand, or I would
include it in this reply.

Mark

Re: Bootable Bigsur Backup?

2021-04-11 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Superuper can be purchased from Shirt Pocket the free version provides the
ability to make copies of your disks. The $27 version can make incremental
updates to save time and disk wear. I haven't used it much since Catalina came
out, since I mostly depend on Time Machine and iCloud for backups.

Best wishes,
