Re: Deleting contacts from iCloud on the mac?

2018-12-01 Thread Jonathan Cohn
There are a few ways to get double contacts, sometimes one can merge
duplications to prevent it re-happening. If you are getting contacts from both
Google and iCloud for example. Also, in several versions of MacOS contacts
would add Facebook and LinkedIn contacts automatically unless you asked it not
to.

In any case your answers are in the cards menu for the contacts app. The first
thing to try is "Look for duplicates…"" if you start this menu it will tell you
how many duplicates it finds and you can then allow it to automatically remove
duplicates. I believe you can also view each pair of duplicates and pick the
one that is most correct, I have had no luck doing this since I could stop
reading the screen, but I have not tried it in 3 or 4 versions of the OS.
The second option to control contacts is the "Merrge selected contacts" This
will take all the selected contacts and merge them into one contact entry. If
there are conflicts that the contacts app can't resolve directly, it will put
some of the conflicting information into the Notes area of a contact.
Third, you can delete contacts manually with either the delete key or command
delete. Or else just using the edit menu and selecting delete.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

2018-12-01 Thread Chris Moore
Hi Matt,
The first question I would ask is how did you get double contacts on your
phone? You may have an extra source of contacts on your phone. If your mac
and phone are pulling contacts ONLY from iCloud, then they should match. Your
phone may be accessing an additional source of contacts. You can check this is
your contacts app.

Deleting contacts from iCloud on the mac?

2018-12-01 Thread Matt Turner
Hi folks, subject says it all.
I have double contacts on my phone.
What I was thinking, is to delete the contacts from iCloud, then reimport them
in to the Mac, then I would not have to go deleting contacts one by one , on my
phone.
