Thanks for all that. Wonder if Grave is the same code everywhere in that thing
as I use the UK layout, so kind of hoping that's an ASCII number and it is lol

Re: Detailed Sharp Keys instructions

2013-12-03 Thread Phil Halton
Hi Dave, I just looked in sharp keys and couldn't find either the caps lock or
the grave key either. I first set this up on mi iMac using the full-size USB
keyboard, and then ported the VM over to my Mac Book Air. The different
keyboard might account for this, but I don't know.

Its kind or weird - in the sharp keys list I have the caps lock and grave keys
, but they're no longer in the from or to lists of available keys. However,
the key code for grave is listed as 029, and caps lock is 03A, and those keys
are listed in the "unknown" section of the lists. I'm pretty sure that the
difference between the MBA keyboard and the full-size USB keyboard are causing
this . I'll bet if you selected those key codes in the unknown section, they'd
map to the MBA's grave accent and caps lock keys. That's if you're interested
in doing any experimentation - I know I'm not. Anyway, as long as you got
something going, that's what matters.

Caps lock is an alternative NVDA key. One could equally map to and from insert,
but I had failed to find it in the list at that point.

Re: Detailed Sharp Keys instructions

2013-12-03 Thread Phil Halton
Because Mac OSX grabs the caps lock key and doesn't pass it through to VMWare
windows in a normal way, its necessary to remap another key to the caps lock so
it can be used as a jaws or NVDA laptop modifier key. On both my USB full
keyboard and the bluetooth keyboard, I have them setup so that pressing grave
accent is now remapped to function as caps lock key, and the caps lock key acts
as a press of the grave accent key, and Tilda on the shifted capslock.

To do the remap in SharpKeys:
1) press "add" to create a key remap entry, .
2) select the caps lock key in the "from" list,
note: the caps lock is way down the list under "special".
3) select the grave accent key in the "to" list.
4) press "add" again, and then select grave key in the "from" list, and caps
lock in the "to" list.

You now have two entries in the actions list which are the mirror image of each
other, effectively swapping the positions of caps lock and grave accent keys on
the keyboard. With the two entries made, press "write to registry". changes
take effect after rebooting or loging off and back on again. All Key remaps can
be undone by deleting the entries and pressing "write to registry".

Note: In the Add process, it is important to select the keys from the list and
not from the "type key" field.
There is a podcast on this process found on Applevis.com. Do a site search for
"sharpkeys".
