Fit Headless devices.
Hello all, I just received a note from Compulab, and they are saying the Fit Headless GS, which is the $15.00 model, is for streaming and video resolutions, while the Fit Headless 4K, which is the $25.00 model, is for high resolution. Now, my question. Since macs use a high resolution, should I have bought the Fit Headless 4K? Maybe, if anyone else that is new to mac is considering a mac mini, you should possibly consider this Fit headless 4K device instead? I don’t know, just was wondering, since they emailed me through Amazon. Portia. -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. The device essentially tricks the GPU into being used, which speeds up OS X rendering the UI. You need a similar thing to run OpenCL applications on Windows. I'm not sure whether or if Linux can be made to work without it, but if I do put Linux on a Mini I'll try it both ways. Yes, the device is essentially a dummy. Mac Mini is still available in the "Server" version, which essentially licenses OS X Server to the purchaser, with twin SSDs and 16 GB of RAM. I have to wonder when Apple will next release, but I'm happy with the one I already have on my desktop, and was wondering whether it wouldn't be more useful as a satellite desktop rather than one of my servers with this dongle plugged into it. It's now very usable, almost as good as having an always-on laptop. Cheers, Sabahattin -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. It's OS X. My Mini exhibited the problem in OS X, but not in Windows via Bootcamp. Yet, others report no problems in OS X, so it seems to be a software problem on certain hardware. Re: Fit-Headless Works!
It's good that this is available since the mac mini is very sluggish without a monitor. I know lots of people that use their pc without a monitor and it works fine, so I would say this is a design flaw. I wonder if it happens when using windows with boot camp? I guess I could try booting a vinux DVD and see if the problem happens without a monitor connected to my mac mini, I'm basically wondering if it's something in mac OSX causing it or if it's the hardware that's causing it. Re: Fit-Headless Works!
Nice. So for $15 US you have a little dongle that you plug into the HDMI port to make it think it has a real HDMI display attached. It's actual purpose is that many servers are run headless and folks screen share to them only to discover the default display resolution is very low. This tricks the machine into running at high resolution because it thinks there is a screen there. For the MacMini issue of bogging down with no screen attached this is a perfect and fairly cheap solution. Re: Fit-Headless Works!
So, the Mac Mini now has a direct HDMI connection? Or, what adapter did you use? Does voice over come through the TV speakers or the Mac mini itself? Would I be correct in assuming that movies in 5.1 channel sound play in that way through home theater systems using this? Hi all, Just wanted to report complete success with the HDMI-connected Fit-Headless on the Mac Mini 6,1. The performance is now every bit as good as though a real display were connected, which is especially noticeable in the Finder. So, if you were put off a Mac Mini because of the need for a display, you now have your solution.
