 Guys,

While I was dealing with something else, I got a notification on my iPhone
that seven account passwords were part of a data leak and might pose
accounts to compromise. I clicked on the note but then lost it before
memorizing which accounts were involved. I gather that dismissed or read
notifications are gone. Is there any way to find out which accounts need
passwords changed? I could only remember one by the time I got back to
 this. Any help appreciated.

 Thanks,
 Kevin

I only noticed because my iPhone shows a password as being part of the data
leak and my Mac mini, 2010, does not show any compromise for that same account
and password. What to do?

Re: Got notification RE passwords part of data leak. Then lost notification before memorizing accounts in question. What to do?

2021-05-16 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Hi Donna,
I did notice that difference between my iPhone and my Mac. I was just wondering
if I could find the same information the same way on both machines. I
understand the difference now. too bad there isn’t a way you can type in a
password and find out how many and which websites use that same password. Is
there a way to do that?

Re: Got notification RE passwords part of data leak. Then lost notification before memorizing accounts in question. What to do?

2021-05-16 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi Kevin,

There are two different notifications that you can see. One just says passwords
used on multiple sites. the other actually says that that password has been
part of a data leak and should be changed immediately. Though I don't fully
understand how Apple determines this, if I have a password in the latter group,
I make sure to change it. Also, I find this a little easier to sort out on the
iPhone than on the Mac, because the two groups are separated out.
HTH,
Donna

Re: Got notification RE passwords part of data leak. Then lost notification before memorizing accounts in question. What to do?

2021-05-16 Thread Kevin Gibbs
In Safari preferences, I did notice something in the bottom left corner that
said, “caution password used on multiple websites. “ But it was not clear to
me whether one could isolate your passwords as shown to reflect only those
which were used on multiple websites. Is it possible to isolate the passwords
that are only used on multiple websites? Or, is that what I’m looking at by
default?

2021-05-15 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
While you're doing this, I would also suggest enabling two-factor
authentication on every account that supports it. This way, anyone who
compromises a password still cannot gain unauthorized access to the
account without acquiring your hardware as well.

Re: Got notification RE passwords part of data leak. Then lost notification before memorizing accounts in question. What to do?

2021-05-15 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi Kevin,

Thanks for posting this. The same thing happened to me a few days ago, but
since the passwords I heard weren’t of particular concern, I didn’t deal with
it right away, and then I wasn’t able to figure out how to retrieve that
information. I will do this today.
Cheers,
Donna

Found the answer in Apple Support Communities, I think.
Sep 25, 2020 — Apple compares passwords that are in the Keychain app on your
phone
with that list, and tells you about the ones that appear both in Keychain
and the list maintained by security teams. To see the list Apple has compiled
go to Settings/Passwords and tap on Security Recommendations.

Got notification RE passwords part of data leak. Then lost notification before memorizing accounts in question. What to do?

2021-05-14 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,

While I was dealing with something else, I got a notification on my iPhone that
seven account passwords were part of a data leak and might pose accounts to
compromise. I clicked on the note but then lost it before memorizing which
accounts were involved. I gather that dismissed or read notifications are
gone. Is there any way to find out which accounts need passwords changed? I
could only remember one by the time I got back to this. Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin
