Hardware Growler, was more system sound feedback?

2011-09-10 Thread Traci

Here is another possible solution I found.

Website:
http://gigaom.com/apple/best-kept-secrets-hardware-growler/

Depending on where you decided to install Hardware Growler, either open
/Applications/HardwareGrowler.app/Contents/Info.plist
or
/Applications/Utilities/HardwareGrowler.app/Contents/Info.plist
add the following two lines after the
dict line:
dict keyLSUIElement/key true/
You will need to quit and re-start Hardware Grolwer for this setting to take
effect.

Next, to make it even easier to ensure Hardware Growler is running after you
login,
go to System Preferences Accounts and add it as a Login Item and check
the Hide

checkbox just for good measure.

Let me know what you all think.

Jeff, was it as easy as the directions sound. I take it you chose the
directions for the info.plist file? Any further tips. :)

Yes, it really was. I excluded the dict from the text to add in since it was
already there and it would be redundant. Otherwise, to the letter.

Re: Hardware Growler, was more system sound feedback?

2011-09-10 Thread Jon Cohn
The two sets of instructions do exactly the same thing, they modify the
properties file of the application which is sorta kinda like the registry in
Windows, though by no means as global.

So using the defaults command adds a new item to the appropriate plist file
using Apple standard operating procedure and editing the plist and adding in a
couple of XML codes will do the same thing.

There is also a program in the developer tools that allows you to examine and
edit a plist file as though you were perusing an Outline.
Best wishes,

Jonathan

Re: Hardware Growler, was more system sound feedback?

2011-09-10 Thread Traci

Hi all,

This worked like a charm for me as well.

It has brought up another questions though. Is there a way where vo doesn't
say growl helper app each time growl does something? I plugged in a USB
drive then ejected it, and both times vo said growl helper app.

Thanks,
Traci
