Has anyone else noticed that dictation in Messages is broken?

2023-01-28 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

Since the recent upgrade, I cannot seem to get dictation to work in messages.
I tap Dictate. Sometimes I get the haptic feedback to indicate dictation has
started, sometimes not. When I do get it, I try and dictate. I’ve then tried
both double tapping and scrolling down to the bottom and tapping to stop
dictation. The scrolling down to the bottom seems to work, but then when I go
back into the message field, there’s no text. I’m on a series 6. Anyone else
experiencing this?
TIA,
Donna

Re: Has anyone else noticed that dictation in Messages is broken?

2023-01-28 Thread Maurice Mines
You might try turning on voice control. Dictation does not happen
automatically, as far as I know. But I think it would be better to turn on
voice control. I think this is done on purpose to keep peoples machines from
turning on dictation by mistake. Or having it start in the background. Without
you knowing that it’s running. I hope this helps.

Please be aware that I am dictating this to my phone. So some of the message
might not appear as it should.

Thanks, Maurice. There is a dictation button in the messages app. It used to
work, even though the interface was a little clunky.

It seems for me that it sometimes work and sometimes not.
I’ve given it up for a while now but maybe I should do feedback report since I

2023-01-29 Thread Dave Carlson
Donna, Perhaps you first need to engage the edit field with a single finger
double tap. Then when it says “edit” or indices the beginning or end of the
edit field, then the to-finger double tap will allow dictation. Second
to-finger double tap will halt dictation and enter text into that edit field.

Hi Dave,

I did do that, and dictation did activate. But it only captured two of the
approximately 20 words I spoke.
Cheers,
Donna

 Hi all,

Since the recent upgrade, I cannot seem to get dictation to work in
messages. I tap Dictate. Sometimes I get the haptic feedback to indicate
dictation has started, sometimes not. When I do get it, I try and
dictate. I’ve then tried both double tapping and scrolling down to the
bottom and tapping to stop dictation. The scrolling down to the bottom
seems to work, but then when I go back into the message field, there’s no
text. I’m on a series 6. Anyone else experiencing this?
 TIA,
 Donna
