Re: Have any VMWare fusion users found workarounds for remapping their caps key now that Karabiner and Seal don't work on Sierra?

Hello,
The simplest approach for now is to plug in a windows style USB keyboard.

 Hi Megan,

A new version of Karabiner is being developed for Sierra. Currently
however, you have to remap the key by creating a configuration file
manually. Here is the info in case you’d like to give it a shot:
 https://github.com/tekezo/Karabiner-Elements

Until it’s released, I’ve gone back to using the accent key as my screen
reading key as E.T. has suggested. But I really do miss having the caps
lock key working as the screen reading key.

2016-09-24 Thread Jonathan Mosen
I've taken a read of what's available about the new Karabina Elements, as I'm
really keen to get this functionality back. I wasn't able to work out how to
create a configuration file that remaps the capslock key. If just one of us
could get to the bottom of the way to do this, we could make the config file
available. I've written to the developer but haven't had an answer as yet.

2016-09-24 Thread Grant
Hi Traci,

I don’t see why not as this is exactly the kind of use case for Karabiner. But
I’m going to wait until the Sierra version is a little more mature before
giving it a go as it’s only in the pre-release stage and everything has to be
edited manually in configuration files. On their website, there is info that
you can read through to learn how to build the configuration files.

Re: Have any VMWare fusion users found workarounds for remapping their caps key now that Karabiner and Seal don't work on Sierra?

2016-09-24 Thread Grant
Hi Scott,

Unfortunately not, the caps lock key is not passed directly through to a
virtual machine unless you use a third-party utility to remap it to something
else. A few of us were using a couple utilities called Karabiner and Seal to do
this, but those do not yet function under Sierra.

Re: Have any VMWare fusion users found workarounds for remapping their caps key now that Karabiner and Seal don't work on Sierra?

2016-09-24 Thread Grant
Hi Megan,

A new version of Karabiner is being developed for Sierra. Currently however,
you have to remap the key by creating a configuration file manually. Here is
the info in case you’d like to give it a shot:
https://github.com/tekezo/Karabiner-Elements

Until it’s released, I’ve gone back to using the accent key as my screen
reading key as E.T. has suggested. But I really do miss having the caps lock
key working as the screen reading key.

Why wouldn’t you just use sharp keys? Is that not effective for the changes
you mention?

2016-09-24 Thread E.T.

Megan,
I am not yet running Sierra. Unless the scheme changed in the latest
Fusion, you can remap the NVDA key in VMware Fusion settings. I remapped
to the accent key which is above the capslock key.

relies heavily on VMWare and Windows along with Sierra, and someone else
must be looking for a solution as well.
