Hi Kimber. What version of iTunes are you running now? just wondering! Hav e
you tried VO space bar on MOre button , which takes you to your artist,
album, songs menus? I have not try this, but maybe you can do VO shift M for
options that will help you how to change settings in order to have your
artists names? Hope this helps! I look forward in hearing from you soon. Thanks
and God bless!

Thanks for replying but I don't see column browser as an option. Could that be
because I am not running the most recent version of iTunes?

Hello All,

I'm new to the list and pretty much a novice to the Mac though I've
had an iPhone for the past four years.

I have an older MacAir running Lion which I want to use to stream
content from my iTunes library and Apple music. My problem is I'm
unable to locate the particular artist, album or playlist I want to
play. I have been able to get content to play, but it seems more by
luck than skill. Here's what happens.

I have my iTunes displayed by artist. But when I get into the -- I
guess it's the table? -- where the content is shown, all I see is how
many albums or songs I have by each artist but not the names of the
artists.

If someone could give me some basic steps for navigating around iTunes
and accessing my content I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Kimber

Re: Help needed navigating iTunes on a Mac

2016-05-23 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland

Kimber,

You may want to have a look at my Youtube channel, as I did an extremely
comprehensive walkthrough recently on ITunes, and how to navigate the music
area.

You'll find the video on my channel, which is at:

Subject: Help needed navigating iTunes on a Mac

2016-05-23 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hello Kimber,

I run iTunes on El Capitan, and it's the latest version of iTunes, 12.4.

Firstly, make sure that the category music is selected and the checkbox "my
music" is checked too. Also, the way I look and search for my music is by
enabling "music browser". To show "column browser" or hide it, you need to go
to the view menu. Press vo+m once and vo right arrow till you hear "view".
Then down arrow to till you hear "column browser submenu. Then right arrow to
expand it. The first item in this submenu should tell you whether the column
browser is showing or hidden. If it says "hide" then it is enabled and should
be showing. Also, in this submenu, you can check the items that you want your
column browser to show as columns. I have checked here genres, composers, and
albums. So my music browser shows in columns these categories. You can move
along these columns and as you do so, the table to the right of your music
browser will reflect the music which you focus on in the music browser. I
normally interact with the music browser first, choose what I want to show and
then stop interacting with the music browser and vo right arrow to the music
table and interact with it to see what's in there. This takes some getting
used to so do experiment with it. I used to get frustrated with the music
browser as it takes some learning as to how it responds to your arrow keys.
For instance, in the music browser, if I by mistake select some obscure genre
for which I have no music, then my music table to the right will not display
any music. You may not wish to have the genre column at all in which case you
can uncheck it in the view menu under column browser submenu.

Also, remember that as long as you have "my music" checked, you can search for
an album or artist by typing their names in the search box if you can remember
them correctly.

I hope this will help a little.

Best wishes
