Installing Windows 7 With VmWare

2009-10-29 Thread Debra Turner
Hi All,

Can a totally blind person really install Windows in a virtual machine
without sight? I am beginning to have my doubts.

I have a Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard, Version 3 of Fusion and a full
Windows 7 package. How can I tell when I get into windows? From what I
understand I have to start narrator to finish the Windows installation. I
have opened the virtual window and also have started it in the library. I
usually get the message about inserting a bootable disk after a few minutes
of pressing the Cmd key and typing narrator, but I wouldn't think my
Windows install disks would be bootable. Is there a tutorial somewhere?
Could somebody talk me through this thing maybe this weekend on skype?

Debra

Hi,

Do you know if windows 7 student upgrade can be installed to the Mac via
VMFusion 3? You mentioned that you have windows 7 CD, the student copy is
downloaded from the web.

Here is the info about the student copy of windows 7
http://windows7.digitalriver.com/

Hi,

Well, since Fusion 3 is supporting Windows 7, I don't see why it's not
possible. I'm looking forward to testing it myself.

Just a note. But yeah starting narrator isn't a bad thing when finishing off
windows install.

But to start it.

In the vm fusion / windows 7 setup. Press the

Windows key + the letter U. and narrator will start automatically.

 Or at least it should.

I gave up on installing and took my machine in to Best Buy. They don't know

I think it's mostly inexperience on my part. I don't know what I'm looking

it says windows is running. Also my sound card, hard disk and other devices

RE: Installing Windows 7 With VmWare

2009-10-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi, yes win 7 can be installed under vm fusion 2 on the os10.6 platform.
Without a problem.

We've done it on 4 machines at work in the last month and it's fine other
than lacking ram to work at a decent speed.

Other than that can't complain about 7 yet.

Re: Installing Windows 7 With VmWare

2009-10-31 Thread Nicolai Svendsen
Hi,

It's really easy to install. Simply launch a new virtual machine
window, select easy install, point to the disk image or CDR and you're
good to go. It'll automate it, and it works really well. I've done it
with both 32 and 64-bit versions and it's been flawless. Of course,
Narrator seems to die on me after a couple of keystrokes, but I
managed to do it without Narrator when I had to get JAWS back online.

Re: Installing Windows 7 With VmWare

2009-10-31 Thread John J Herzog
Deborah,
I have installed windows multiple times under fusion 2. The process
has remained exactly the same for fusion 3. After the DVD stops
spinning, you need to give it some time. The way the windows install
works is that it first copies many files to your hard drive via the
DVD. Then, it stops the DVD, and goes through the process of unpacking
and installing everything. This can take as much as an hour to
complete, even when using XP. Here's my advice.
Try going through all the steps of the auto install. Let the DVD spin
around, and keep fusion open even after it stops. Wait about an hour
or so. After the install finishes setting things up, you will hear the
windows log on sound. Note: The audio is somewhat low at first, so
turn your volume up to be sure you don't miss it. Also, if you hear
nothing an hour and a half or so after the DVD has stopped spinning,
restart the virtual machine and see what happens. There are times
when, for some reason, sound has not worked until after an initial
restart of the VM. This is rare though, and only happened to me twice.
I hope this helps,

John
