My understanding, which may be inaccurate, is that NVDA includes some
C++ code. I don't know whether it compiles and runs on ARM64.

Microsoft Narrator may work, though, as it's part of the operating system.

On Linux, I've heard that Orca does run under ARM64.

What about virtual machines?
I realise that's not the original direction of the thread but I am curious as
I'm thinking of getting a new Mac at some point.

2021-05-09 Thread skipper8218
Here is a good article from NV Access explaining why third party screen readers
cannot run on Windows S or any Mobile version of windows.

https://www.nvaccess.org/post/why-cant-nvda-run-on-windows-10-mobile-and-windows-10-s/

I’ve decided that it is not worth investigating or running a Virtual Windows
Machine on my M1.

Hi,
This article has step by step instructions for downloading Windows onto the new
M1 Macs.
It requires an Arm based version of Windows, Parallels, and a Windows Insider
registration.
https://9to5mac.com/2021/05/03/the-super-easy-guide-for-installing-windows-on-m1-macs-using-parallels-desktop-16-for-mac-video/
I’ve decided that it is probably best for me not to put two operating systems
on the same machine.

Re: Instructions for Running Windows on M1 Machines

2021-05-09 Thread maurice mines
good afternoon everyone I just wanted to let everyone know is far is I
know you can not run parallels with any nonvisual access technique.
Meaning Jaws orNvda. Unfortunately the creators of parallels I don't
think knows and or is concerning themselves with access for the blind.
VMware on the other hand does work quite well with Jaws,Nvda I have had
no problems when running a virtual machine with either of these two
Windows-based screen readers. Just FYI I am dictating this message to
the computer by using Dragon for Windows. This program unlike a screen
reader is an absolute resource hog! But seems to be holding up very
well. Just for clarity I don't work for VMware. And have no financial or
other interest. Just wanting to pass along advice. Just so that you are
aware if you are using it for purely personal means meaning you're not
doing Windows on a Mac for a professional reason meaning a job, you can
run VMware for free writing you obtain a noncommercial use license.
There are instructions and all of the details on their website.

Of course be aware with this solution you will have to add this program
to your security and privacy preferences particularly in the
accessibility, Paul discusses, and with the appropriate extension. The
installer will prompt you to make these settings.

I hope this helps someone out? Otherwise be well everyone and to all the
mothers out there hopefully your mother today is going along smoothly.

Please be aware that the advice, and one physician and or statements
written above, are mine. They don't reflect the views of the national
Federation of the blind, or the national Federation of the blind deaf
blind division. Also be aware as I mentioned above I am dictating the
contents of this email to the computer by means of dictation software.
So there may in fact be some unintended errors in the text written
above. If there's something you didn't understand, please reach out to
me and asked me what my original meaning was. I will be glad to help
clear up any potential misunderstandings that may arise as a result of
the above written text.

Thanks.

I installed the Google Browser last night and look forward to trying it out.

It has been my experience that Google suite products tend to work better in
Google /Chrome.

I appreciate the information.

Rebecca,

Yes, there is a version of Google Chrome that will run nicely on the Mac. it
also works well with VoiceOver.

Google's Sheets and Docs are browser-based applications, that can be run on any
platform via the browser of your choice. While theoretically Sheets and Dogs
can be run using Safari, you may find a better experience when using Google's
chrome browser.

I have clients who send me worksheets in Google Chrome, Excel, or Microsoft

I have to juggle multiple platforms.

I love the responsiveness of VoiceOver in native apps though.

Hi,

This article has step by step instructions for downloading Windows onto the new
M1 Macs.

It requires an Arm based version of Windows, Parallels, and a Windows Insider
registration.

I’ve decided that it is probably best for me not to put two operating systems
on the same machine.

Hi!
Are there arm64 based Debian versions out there?
With Bratty running that could be great.
I wouldn’t rung Gui on that debits system though.

I can do everything on the Mac that I can on Windows. There is work underway that may allow Linux to run on Apple Silicon Mac hardware, and I may be interested in that possibility though at some point. From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com on behalf of skipper8...@gmail.com Date: Friday, May 7, 2021 at 10:12To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: Instructions for Running Windows on M1 MachinesHi,This article has step by step instructions for downloading Windows onto the new M1 Macs.It requires an Arm based version of Windows, Parallels, and a Windows Insider registration.https://9to5mac.com/2021/05/03/the-super-easy-guide-for-installing-windows-on-m1-macs-using-parallels-desktop-16-for-mac-video/I’ve decided that it is probably best for me not to put two operating systems on the same machine.-- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. If you have any questions or concerns about the running of this list, or if you feel that a member's post is inappropriate, please contact the owners or moderators directly rather than posting on the list itself. Your Mac Visionaries list moderator is Mark Taylor. Instructions for Running Windows on M1 Machines

2021-05-07 Thread skipper8218
Hi,

This article has step by step instructions for downloading Windows onto the
new M1 Macs.

It requires an Arm based version of Windows, Parallels, and a Windows
Insider registration.

https://9to5mac.com/2021/05/03/the-super-easy-guide-for-installing-windows-o
n-m1-macs-using-parallels-desktop-16-for-mac-video/

I've decided that it is probably best for me not to put two operating
systems on the same machine.
