MacBook doesn't go to sleep when lid closed in OS Sierra

2016-10-30 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi,

Yet another difficulty I experience after upgrade to Sierra is that neither my
old MacBook Air nor my 2014 MacBook pro go to sleep when I close the lid. Once
the lid is closed, Voiceover keeps repeating rotor menu items. The only way I
can put it to sleep if I want to close the lid is to switch of trackpad
commander. This makes me think that there’s something wrong here. If the
trackpad is on for Voiceover use, when I close the lid, it prevents the mac
from sleeping. Any experiences like this from anyone else?

Andrew

2016-10-30 Thread Brandon A. Olivares
My wife is having the same issue. We’ve found it helps if she unplugs the
laptop before shutting it. She can then plug it back in if she wants to, and it
still stays sleeping.

2016-10-30 Thread Scott Granados
There’s also a checkbox under energy savings and power that controls sleep
behavior as in what can or can’t wake up the device. I haven’t noticed this
problem but I usually click on the sleep option under the apple before closing
the lid.

Re: MacBook doesn't go to sleep when lid closed in OS Sierra

2016-10-30 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

I haven't experienced this exact issue, but have noticed that my MBP takes an
extra 30 seconds or so to go to sleep. I close the lid, then can tell that
stuff is still happening, but it does wind down after about 30 seconds. For
those of you with Apple Watches and other devices that continue speaking with
your Mac, or with machines that are Power Nap capable, you may wish to go under
the Power Adaptor tab of Energy Saver in System Prefs, and uncheck the box that
reads "Wake for Network Access". This may help the issue.

Later...

Hi!
Also go to sharing in system prefs and uncheck the internet sharing checkbox.
That helped me with my mac mini.

Re: MacBook doesn't go to sleep when lid closed in OS Sierra

2016-11-02 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Same here. Internet sharing is off, various energy aspects are off too as
waking the computer for various activities, and yet the issue does still happen.

Worryingly, the Accessibility Team at Apple has responded to my report by
saying that they cannot reproduce the issue and advised me to speak to the UK
support team. I'm just nervous now to close the lid so when going out or last
thing at night I shut my macbook pro altogether. This is not what it should be
like. At least I'm comforted that it is not only me. On my late 2010 Macbook
air, I decided to downgrade to El Capitan. Lots of work but my macbook air
performs better now. With my mid 2014 macbook pro, I have decided to leave
Sierra hoping that future upgrades can solve the sleep issue.

Hi!
Can it be that the pram needs to be reset or the smc?
Not sure but it may worth looking in to.
