Re: Getting Stuck in Customer Reviews: Amazon.com

2019-12-15 Thread 'Robert Cole' via MacVisionaries
Hi,
Here is a message on this subject by Tim Kilburn
  from another list.
———
Hi,

As Johnathan suggested. You can set up an Activity to have Amazon's web
address behave in a specific manner with VO. Using the suggestion I gave of
having the Mouse Pointer ignore the VO Cursor instead of attempting to work
with Java. Amazon also has a link on their front page that reads something to
the effect of "Amazon has updated its screen reader friendly version of our
site. Click on this link to access it."

Although, if you'd like to create the activity to do what I've suggested, do
the following:

• open the VO Utility
• cmd-0, or select Activities from the categories table.
• press the Add an Activity button.
• give it a name
• stop interacting with the table and expand the "Additional Setting to
Include" item.
• check the Navigation checkbox.
• press the "Set Navigation" button.
• make sure that the Mouse Pointer ignores the VO Cursor and close this dialog.
• navigate to the Apps & Web-sites menu item and add www.amazon.com
.
• close everything and you should be good.

HTH.

2019-12-14 Thread Barry Hadder
That is correct. It is in navigation.

You don’t want to permanently disable java script. You would only disable it
in situations where you are having problems. It’s a band-aid rather than a
fix. It also doesn’t always work. But it is something to try in certain
situations. Some times temporarily disabling styles works as well

I think it's in the vo utility. I have to go in there and look but there's
something maybe in navigation where you can have the vo and mouse cursors
synchronized or not. I'm going to go play with it. I'd rather not doanything
that I'd have to keep switching back and forth. maybe disabling java script
would work better. not sure yet as I don't have to worry about choosing colors.
if you set an activity what do you set it up to do?

You can stop the loading announcement on the Amazon page just by restarting
voiceover.
Also, having vo set to constantly move the mouse around will usually slow
things down to some degree. There is no benefit in having it set that way for
normal usage.

Hello,
To enable the developer menu you need to open up safari preferences. Once here
go to the advanced settings then you should find a checkbox to enable the

I use amazon.com (and this happens with m.amazon.com, also) to shop for
stuff. I do a search for an item, find a list of suggestions.
 I click on a suggestion.
I tab or use single-letter nav to jump to headings to try and find a
 description of the item.
Invariably I get sucked into a page or sub-page or window where all I can
get are the rating percentages and a close button.
I click on the close button and the same darn stuff pops up again.

I get dragged into this swamp even if I try to navigate with VO+right/left
arrows. Once I get stuck, I can’t get out. I feel like Brer Rabbit and the
tar-baby in the Uncle Remus story.

Help, I’m stuck and can’t get out.

Hello,
I set up an activity to do this. However it really slows down safari when I go
to the Amazon site. It also keeps saying loading over and over again for 30
seconds or more.

Tim,
Thanks! That did it. I think there are a couple other web sites with this quirk

I took it that was the way amazon wanted their site to be.

Even their accessibility features still give the pages on their site
truckloads of extra bloatware crap.

This happens to me as well. It’s been an ongoing issue with amazon for at least
3 years. A few other blind people have even made screen capture videos on
YouTube (among other platforms) and amazon doesn’t appear to be responsive.

Still, if enough people send mail to the Amazon CEO via email ( j...@amazon.com

how do you enable the developer menu in Safari?

lately I haven't even been able to use the moving by headings to get around

Re: Getting Stuck in Customer Reviews: Amazon.com

2019-12-13 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries

HTH.

Re: Getting Stuck in Customer Reviews: Amazon.com

2019-12-13 Thread Lorie McCloud
this happens to me all the time and it's really frustrating. "close" doesn't
seem to do anything. sometimes I can go down past that stuff and slowly move up
to read about it. I'd like to disable java script for Amazon. can somebody
please coach me on this?

thanks.

Hi Jonathan,

As far as I can tell, yes. Like you, I haven't tested it a lot, but by all

Re: Getting Stuck in Customer Reviews: Amazon.com

2019-12-13 Thread Greg Wocher
Hello,
One work around is to enable the developer menu in Safari. Once this is done
you can disable javascript from within the developer menu. However once this is
done you will not be able to select things like color or other options for
items that include these. To do that you will have to turn javascript back on.
Another way around this is to move by headings and move to the one right past
the items name. You can then move up to get some of the item details.

Re: Getting Stuck in Customer Reviews: Amazon.com

2019-12-13 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Yeah, Amazon is a pain that way. I was having similar frustrations. Kicking
things didn't help. Go into VO Utility,, press cmd-4 to go directly to the
Navigation category, the drop-down that relates to the Mouse Pointer, set it to
Ignores VO Cursor. That's not the way I prefer it, but it's what you need to
do on Amazon and a few other sites. What's happening is that a new dialog is
popping up on hover. Every time that the mouse pointer is sitting on that
spot, the hover object opens. Changing it to Ignores fixes that.

Later...
