Re: Connecting usb devices in vmware fusion.

2018-01-05 Thread Nickus de Vos
Hi
Yesterday I suddenly had the same issue, running the latest version of Fusion
and OS 10. I had to shut down my virtual machine, restart my Mac and then I
could Connect a USB device again. So this seems to be a bug, but at least it
can be fixed with the quick restart of everything.

DO you happen to be in the Hi Sierra beta program?
If the later is yes there seem to be a bug with usb and vmware.
I can also recommend the vmware knowledge base which is quite informative.

Are you running Fusion 10.1? That is when I noticed issues. Ok I
just downgraded to 10.0.1 and things look good. Will test again after a

But there is a button to remove the usb controller which i’ve tried to do and

I would like to have the braille display and a harddisk connected but it can’t

Do i have to add them manually in windows?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Connecting usb devices in vmware fusion.

2018-01-02 Thread Andrew Lamanche
I’m just having a similar issue with my usb super drive. I wanted to install
something from a CD, I plugged my superdrive into my macbook pro and had to add
virtual something or rather to my VMWare via settings but Windows still doesn’t
recognise the drive and I can’t use it.

Re: Connecting usb devices in vmware fusion.

2018-01-01 Thread E.T.
This had not been am issue until Fusion 10.1 then even with the Mac
seeing the drives, Fusion did not see then. The simple fix as you say is
just eject the drives from the Mac then reconnect after the VM is running.

But there is a button to remove the usb controller which i’ve tried to do and

Do i have to add them manually in windows?

Re: Connecting usb devices in vmware fusion.

2017-12-29 Thread Mike Arrigo
I have not used fusion for a while, but when I did, I used to set it to
always connect USB devices to the virtual machine. The reason I did it
this way was, I would only have fusion open if I was using windows for
something, so that's where the USB device should go. I always had the
virtual machine shut down and fusion closed when I was not using
windows for something, so USB devices would always connect to the mac
in that case anyway, I think this set up is probably the easiest.

Original message:

Anders, are you running Fusion version 10? Seems the 10.1 version
broke this. I have mine set to Ask what to do, then with the drive
disconnected from the Mac, booted the VM then connected the drive and I
got the dialog to connect the drive. Try that.

Normally fusion asks what to do but not in this case.
When i check the usb/bluetooth settings the table there is empty.
But there is a button to remove the usb controller which i’ve tried to
do and then re-add it again.
I would like to have the braille display and a harddisk connected but
it can’t be done as there seems to be no usb devices.

Do i have to add them manually in windows?
Thanks in advance.

Disconnect the USB drives from the Mac then reconnect them and see
if that works. If the drives are visible on the Mac, then go to the menu
bar, Virtual Machine, scroll down to USB devices and find your drive in
the sub menu and press enter on the drive to connect it.

Re: Connecting usb devices in vmware fusion.

2017-12-29 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I was wondering if perhaps disk drives were only connected to the Mac much
like keyboards, but this is not the case. There is a checkbox when choosing
where to connect a USB device that says don't ask me again. Did you
perchance click this at some point?
