A much quicker way to switch tabs where you don't have to stop interacting or anything is to hit control tab and control shift tab to cycle through the tabs in a reverse order. Hi, tabs are multiple webpages contained in one window. What you are referring to is multiple windows opened, each containing a webpage. Open up safari and look in the file menu. You will see options for opening a new window, and opening a new tab. It sounds like you are pressing command, not control. Command is immediately adjacent to the spacebar on any Apple keyboard, control is on the left side, second in (past function). On a Windows-style keyboard control is on both the outer left and outer right, below each shift key, while command is second in from the left and (normally) third in from the right.
