That is a temporary work around. That is not an acceptable solution though. 
Please don’t let dropbox tech support lead you remotely to that as a possible 
solution. Especially when you are able to do this independently on other 
platforms.

 

I would start the process by asking for an update regarding this since as of 
six months ago, it was escalated to engineering for a fix. In the meantime, 
Phil’s suggestions if you don’t want to wait for Dropbox to get back to you, 
are absolutely doable.

At the moment, you can’t. Or at least, VoiceOver does not tell you the state 
whether the folder is checked or unchecked. Please report it to the dropbox 
support so perhaps they will actually do something about it. They definitely 
are aware. That has been broken for quite awhile.
