My router is from Xfinity, has nothing to do with NetGear at all. I wouldn’t
think it matters.

Thanks for this, good price. Does the extender need to match the
router? I browsed some on Amazon and one was AC1900 which is my router
but it was $100.

Re: Wi-Fi Extenders

2020-03-16 Thread Dave Carlson
E.T.
I have a wi-fi extender from Trendnet, I believe. The setup is very simple. It
just plugs into a wall socket within range of your current wi-fi and will
extend the range. I recommend you give a slightly different network name so
that you can know which network you’re connecting to. I just gave mine the name
networkname.ext You set it up while connected to your computer with a network
cable, and then it’s completely remote.

Re: Wi-Fi Extenders

2020-03-16 Thread Eric Caron
I”m interested in the replies.

My wifi was weak in one spot in my home. I purchased a TP link extender. I
didn’t notice any improvement no matter where I put it.

I have two old apple express routers. They can be used to extend a
network or as a air play device.

I was able to get them working and attached to my network. I then placed them
so one was part way to my bed room and one was in the room. I didn’t notice
any improvement. I think it may have even weakened the signal.

Finally I just gave up and that one spot has one bar and works much of the time.

I’d like to eventually find a router that has serious range.

I’m actually doing a little better now that I retired the last router and
pressed back into service my Apple time capsule. That old thing is still
keeping up with my many smart home devices and streaming demands.

I hope to hear you find a successful resolution.

Re: Wi-Fi Extenders

2020-03-16 Thread 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries
Hmm, I just got a new Apple TV 4k which did not fix the issue. It
has an Ethernet port. Its a very long shot, in more than one way. :) But
if that is what you awre suggesting, then would that go between the ATV
and the router?

Re: Wi-Fi Extenders

2020-03-16 Thread 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries
A friend asked about that but the layout of my apartment would make
running a cable difficult. He will see if he can get his hands on an
extender so we can test that.

Could you briefly define what a mesh system is? Thanks.
