Yes.

It works in any and all edit fields excluding password fields.

2012-05-08 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi Venkatesh
I have not noticed a significant battery problem from my iPhone 4 and when i
fot 4S. You might want to get a portable battery charger you can carry around.
That's at I did, but I seldom have to use it from within my purse.

I think the dictation feature is pretty good, but then I am doing it with a
southern U.S. accent. Having said that, I have to be careful to say my words
clearly so Siri will understand me.

Re: iPhone 4S: is it really awesome?

2012-05-08 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

honestly, at this point I would just hold off. The 4S has already been out for
7 months. In 5 months or less there will more than likely be a new iPhone for
you to pick up instead. And if you don't want to do that, you can get a 4S at
a cheaper price once the new iPhone is released.

Re: iPhone 4S: is it really awesome?

2012-05-08 Thread Rahul Bajaj
Hi,

I won't be able to answer all your questions as I don't use the iPhone 4S, but
I can answer your first question.
I was recently trying out Siri on a cousin's iPhone.
And, frankly, I was a little disappointed.
This was because of 2 main reasons:
First, Siri has a hard time understanding the Indian accent.
They say that the accuracy of the results depends on the clarity of your
voice and not your accent, but I personally found it really hard to communicate
with Siri.
And a few of my friends who've tried it have also had similar experiences.
And, secondly, it doesn't contain any information about India.
I searched for restaurants, multiplexes, malls, etc, but it didn't have any
information regarding any of them.
However, you can get better results if you try asking it to search the web for
places in India.

So, those are my views.
I don't want to discourage you in any way, but, like you correctly said, the 4S
is pretty expensive here, so I just thought I should let you know about my
experience.

And, lastly, I would be extremely grateful if you would be kind enough to reply
to my mail which I had sent to you a few days ago.

Cheers,
Rahul

Re: iPhone 4S: is it really awesome?

2012-05-08 Thread chris hallsworth
1. I can't speak for Siri myself, but here in the UK I know it can't
help you locate businesses for example restaurants.
2. I believe the text dictation feature works for all except password
text fields for obvious reasons.
3. The camera on the 4s is 8 megapixel compared to the 3gs which is only
3. So performance will no doubt be a huge improvement. There is also a
front facing camera which is useful for features like Facetime.

4. I can't comment on VoiceOver and Siri interacting together sorry.
5. Because of the dual core A5 processor in the 4s, I have no doubts
that VoiceOver will be very responsive on the 4s compared to the 3gs.
6. Can't comment on the battery sorry. I have heard in the past that
there were battery issues on some iPhone 4s.

Hope any or all of this helps.

Hi listers.
I am currently using an iPhone 3Gs. I am considering to get a new 4S.
I have a few questions. I am sorry for a long email. the 4S is an
expensive purchase so I wish to be very sure before I decide.

1. I watched many videos of siri. from that, I learn it is really good
in speech recognition. well, since you will be using it daily, what do
you think about it's recognition capabilities? How good is it at
texting? I also saw a couple of posts in this list about vo and siri
not working properly together. Does it really prove to be
inconvenient?
2. text dictation.
I read that there is an option to say the text we wish to type in an
edit field on pressing a microphone button on the keyboard. Is this
only in the messages app or works in any edit field (even in 3rd party
apps like Facebook and whatsapp messenger)? and, how is the accuracy
of the recognition?
3. Looktel apps on 3GS vs 4S
I am planning to purchase the money reader and the recognizer in the
near future. Is there a significant performance difference in terms of
recognition time and accuracy?
4. VO and battery in 3Gs vs 4S
since updating to iOs5, VO lags quite often. It responds late when I
move my finger on the touch keyboard and by the time I remove my
finger, it enters a different character from what I actually intended
to enter. Does this happen in the 4S too? and how is the battery life
of the phone after the 5.1 update?
Your suggestions would be of great value and will help me in making
the right choice.
Thank you for reading this long list of questions.

Venkatesh
