Re: Recommendations for Antivirus Programs.

2015-08-17 Thread John Maliga
I tend to agree, but casual users and newbies often get into trouble by
installing apps, plugins, and add-ons that, while not viruses, are deeply
annoying. Virus programs tend NOT to remove those, so your browser starts
offering ads, pop-up, and search results that verge on the abusive.

As a long-time Mac user, I haven't had a virus program since before OS X.
But I just removed MacKeeper and related nag-ware from a fairly intelligent
friend's computer. It's just a little hard to describe what NOT to do, but
the basic suggestion is to avoid downloading apps that aren't in the App
store, and to apply all updates from the App store, but nowhere else. If
you have a bit of a nerdy side, you can play around in the rough end of the
Internet; otherwise, keep your lifejacket on, and don't buy programs that
promise to protect you from viruses you won't get.

I would not waste my time with antivirus software at this point. Really good
safe computing practices are as important if not more than running some
software. Depending on how your using your computer if you’re computing safely
and only dealing with known entities you should be good.

Hello,
I was a bit hesitant to try Adware Medic at first, but it looks as if
the company who makes it has recently been acquired by Malwarebytes.
I've used both Eset and Malwarebytes on my Windows machine in the
past, and I have been satisfied with the level of protection.
Thanks for the info.
Kevin

Hi, I'm a dealer for both Eset and malwarebytes . I have been dealing
exclusively with windows versions; however, both have mac options. The
interfaces aren't fantastic, but they do have a lot of keyboard support.

On the mac side, there is also adware medic for free. If you think you have an
issue, I would try that first.

Hope this helps,

Recommendations for Antivirus Programs.

2015-08-14 Thread Kevin White
Hi all,
With all of the news about potential exploits and general malware
targeted towards the Mac, I am wondering what antivirus programs
people use. Which ones are Voiceover compatible, and which in your
opinion has the best track record for keeping the Mac virus free.
Thanks,
Kevin
