Re: Searching in mail

2020-02-21 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi Chris,

It sounds like your computer lost the search field in the upgrade to Catalina
as well. the only way to fix this is to use the Customize toolbar item under
the View menu. the problem is that this dialog/window does not work with VO
dragging in any way shape or form. I have reported it to Apple, but it
wouldn't hurt if someone else did. So, your options are to get sighted
assistance to have them use the Customize toolbar window to drag the search
field back into place, or to try dragging it yourself and guessing where to
drop it. The dragging needs to be done with your Trackpad or mouse, as it
cannot be done with VO methods. I was able to make it work without sighted
assistance, but it took a lot of patience and may have been a fluke that I even
got it to drop in the right place.

Well, I start by typing control-option F while in a message list. You should
then be able to start typing, once you have a couple of letters in then you
should be able to use downarrow to find a list of completions.

Hi,

Don't know if its working if the search field isn’t at the Toolbar, but to
search mailboxes you need to push cmd+option+F.
That's the way I do it for as long as I know.

Another possibility for people who don't have the search is to try forcing the
toolbar to use the default set.
In the customize toolbar dialog, move to the default set of toolbar items image

Re: Searching in mail.

2019-11-11 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

It seems to be a flaw in either the upgrade to Catalina Mail, or I'm not sure
why it happened if you were doing a clean install. When I contacted Apple
Accessibility about it, they said that all I needed to do was go under the View
menu, down to Customize ToolBar, and drag the search item from there into the
ToolBar. It doesn't work though as the style of dialog that presents when
choosing the customization will not work for VO dragging. I've let them know
and they have supposedly passed it on to the necessary people. So, you'll
either need sighted assistance, or do some guess moving with the Trackpad or
mouse to try to get it into the ToolBar. I've got it back, but I think that it
was just dumb luck.

Later...

Re: Searching Lion mail with VoiceOver

2011-08-31 Thread John André Netland
Robert,

You have to first focus on the mailbox you want to search, either a main folder
or a sub folder. Then press command-option-F to enter the search box in the
toolbar, enter your search, and use the up/down arrow keys to choose a result.
Press enter on the result you would like to inspect, and go to the messages
list. Here you will find all matching results. You can also use the Favorite
Bar to choose a folder, or select the All checkbox to see results from all of
your folders.

Hope this helps! :)

searching for mail in lion with classic layout

2011-07-30 Thread johns.kary
Hi guys,
How do you search for an email in the new mail using the classic layout?

In SL all you had to do was type the search in the search box. That seams to
have been removed in lion, and cmd F brings up a search feature that doesn't
seam to do anything.

Can anyone help?

And I do apologise in advance if I don't reply or thank someone, I haven't
quite got the hang of the new mail yet, so I am missing some emails if my inbox
is over full. As it is at the moment! lol.
Thanks,
Kari.

Searching in Mail?

Hi guys. In Microsoft outlook you can do a search for a spesific message, even
if you just include a few keywords of the subject. Is there a way you can do
this in mail? I seem to find that you can only do a find for some text inside a
message.

Command Option F will take you to the search field. Type your search string
there and tab twice to the messages table. There you will find a list of all
messages in all mailboxes that contain your string. If you want to search
specific mailboxes, you can select them in the mailboxes table like always. I
believe also that Spotlight will find text in saved mail messages as well as
any other instance of a search string on your Mac.
