   Yes that os the file I mentioned. Alright, I haven't touched it in a 
couple years so will scratch it off my to do list of projects.

Could you clarify what you’re trying to do that the Mac OS firewall doesn’t 
achieve here? I don’t know what hosts file you’re referring to, either. Is it 
/etc/hosts? If so, adding entries there won’t protect you from anything - it 
just associates host names with IP addresses, and contains entries for the 
loopback interface by default.
