There are approximately, 285 voices that are available as downloads from Apple. If you
pick the name of the Voice in the Speech category of VoiceOver utility, and go to the
last item in the pop-up list this will be "customize".
Pressing this brings up a dialog with a table of voices. Each voice has a
checkbox next to it to determine if if it will be enabled for use in VoiceOver.
After the list of voices is a play, cancel, and a OK button. The Play button
lets you hear a sample of the selected voice. The OK button accepts any changes
and requests System Utility to download the new voices the next time it checks
for updates.

Many of them are from Nuance. The "Fred" voice sounds somewhat similar
to a DECTALK, but not as good in my opinion.

That is one of the novelty voices that add sound effects. That one makes each
sylable sound like the overtones of a bell ringing. There
about 4 of them. One I don't recall sings the text. Easily found on googlee
using os10 novelty voices.

I suppose a voice named bells, is just a ringer not a talker?
Are the voices say for English first in the order, or must one go down
the list finding non-English speaking voices mixed into the options?
Clarity is an absolute requirement, and I mean strictly on the mac.

Thanks so much,

I doubt it though I guess it is possible that the M1 chip Macs don't have all
the Voices.
When you are in the voices area did you find:
Customized language list table No selection.

if you did then you need to interact with this table and then follow my
instructions.

Re: additional voices?

2020-12-28 Thread Jonathan Cohn
There are approximately, 285 voices that are available as downloads from Apple.
If you pick the name of the Voice in the Speech category of VoiceOver utility,
and go to the last item in the pop-up list this will be "customize".

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Hello Denise,

There's no need to uninstall any voices before installing a new one. I have a

that come with Lion, and eleven or so Acapela voices.

Cheers,

Re: lion additional voices

2011-10-29 Thread Red.Falcon
Hi Denise!
If you do need to remove some voice's in the future [or now]
Someone suggested you can find them by going to,
/System/Library/Speech/Voices.
I'm still on snowy kitty but I think some people have mentioned that the
library in Lion has been hidden!
So hopefully someone can tell you how to get to it! :]

Re: getting additional voices in different languages

2011-07-24 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hey Priscilla. If you have Lion, you can download several voices that speak
other languages. These voices are free. If you're still running Snow Leopard,
you can find voices from Acapela that speak in different languages on
assistiveware's website. The voices are free for 30 days, and then they cost
around $100 after the 30 days. HTH.

getting additional voices in different languages

2011-07-23 Thread Priscilla Garces
Hello listers,
I am planning to study french at some point.
How do I go about getting additional voices in other languages besides english?
Sometimes I want to even read stuff in spanish?
Do you know if anyone has any success with the rosetta stone software?
I bought a french course but the CD are only audio and the book is obviously
not accessible because it's in print.
I would like to learn another foreign language, but for me to do that I would
like to know where I can get good voices that speak various languages?

Any feedback, please contact me. Thank you very much.

Hi,

If your a voiceover user, its a great deal for $30 in my opinion. We now
have 1 letter navigation in the web browser, profiles you can set up for
different apps. A boat load of new high quality voices for no extra charge.
And I'm sure I'm missing some new features. I can't see any reason not to
upgrade unless there is some important app you use that is not Lion
compatible.

I'm a little reluctant to just download Lion because it is there.

What happens if I don't download it?

2011-07-20 Thread Zachary Kline
Hi,
You're probably just unaware of which popup we're talking about. THe one we
refer to is bethe one where you select your default voice, underneath the
Voice label in the Speech section. At the bottom of that menu will be a
Customize item which you select. In that dialog which will appear you'll find
a table of voices.
Best,
Zack.

 Hi,

If your a voiceover user, its a great deal for $30 in my opinion. We now
have 1 letter navigation in the web browser, profiles you can set up for
different apps. A boat load of new high quality voices for no extra charge.
And I'm sure I'm missing some new features. I can't see any reason not to
upgrade unless there is some important app you use that is not Lion
 compatible.

 are the benefits?

I'm a little reluctant to just download Lion because it is there.

What happens if I don't download it?

 Hi,
You're probably just unaware of which popup we're talking about. THe one we
refer to is bethe one where you select your default voice, underneath the
Voice label in the Speech section. At the bottom of that menu will be a
Customize item which you select. In that dialog which will appear you'll
 find a table of voices.
 Best,
 Zack.

I still can't find the other voices, no pop up menu is appearing when I go
to the voices tab in voice over utilities. What am I missing here?
