Many of them are from Nuance. The "Fred" voice sounds somewhat similar to a DECTALK, but not as good in my opinion. I'm not sure about frequency, I believe tmost of these voices are the same as what JAWS offers. Karen, Samantha. One thing with the Apple voice setting area, one can adjust both pitch and intonation. Hi Shawn, Thanks for that information. My personal situation is that, due to experiencing a rather unique secondary disability, I have yet to find a safe voice to use. One that does not at best stimulate my brain's dizzy centres, or at worst create something a bit like a Cesar. My last try, in March, involved a siri voice on an Iphone, which made me rather sick indeed. for the moment Hardware, gosh I wish someone had saved the digital dectalk voices, as I use a hardware decktalk voice now, seems safer than software strict like Ios...believe me its complex even for my medical team. What I hoped for from the list was frequency related information anything that might hint at quality before I try. I would not be using a strict 64 bit edition of Macos regardless for other reasons. Still, I imagine there are at least 20 or more options just in the regular non-siri voices. Thanks, Karen On Tue, 29 Dec 2020, 'Shawn Krasniuk' via MacVisionaries wrote: Hi Karen. That is one of the novelty voices that add sound effects. That one makes each sylable sound like the overtones of a bell ringing. There about 4 of them. One I don't recall sings the text. Easily found on googlee using os10 novelty voices. Hi Karen. Some voices on the Mac are used for novelty purposes. Bells basically talks, or in this case, sings like a grandfather clock. There are other novelty voices that I'm not going to get indepth about because it'll take all night to do so. But I can tell you one voice I'm glad they finally let us use on the Mac. Re: additional voices?
Jonathan, Do you know if any details about each voice is provided..anywhere? Its characteristics, frequency ranges, etc.? Surely there must be some reason that makes each voice distinctive from each other besides the name. That such a number exists is honestly astonishing. I doubt it though I guess it is possible that the M1 chip Macs don't have all the Voices. Re: lion additional voices
Hello Denise, There's no need to uninstall any voices before installing a new one. I have a great many voices in several languages on my MacBook Air. I have the new voices that come with Lion, and eleven or so Acapela voices. Re: lion additional voices
Hi Denise! If you do need to remove some voice's in the future [or now] Someone suggested you can find them by going to, /System/Library/Speech/Voices. I'm still on snowy kitty but I think some people have mentioned that the library in Lion has been hidden! So hopefully someone can tell you how to get to it! :] Colin On 29 Oct 2011, at 19:00, Denise Avant wrote: ok. thanks. i had heard the voices take up so much space that one needed to be careful on how many to download. Re: getting additional voices in different languages
Hey Priscilla. If you have Lion, you can download several voices that speak other languages. These voices are free. If you're still running Snow Leopard, you can find voices from Acapela that speak in different languages on assistiveware's website. The voices are free for 30 days, and then they cost around $100 after the 30 days. HTH. Shawn -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. getting additional voices in different languages
Hello listers, I am planning to study french at some point. How do I go about getting additional voices in other languages besides english? Sometimes I want to even read stuff in spanish? Do you know if anyone has any success with the rosetta stone software? I bought a french course but the CD are only audio and the book is obviously not accessible because it's in print. I would like to learn another foreign language, but for me to do that I would like to know where I can get good voices that speak various languages? Any feedback, please contact me. Thank you very much. Priscilla Garces priscillagarces1...@hotmail.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. additional voices?
I still can't find the other voices, no pop up menu is appearing when I go to the voices tab in voice over utilities. What am I missing here? Re: additional voices?
Hi, You're probably just unaware of which popup we're talking about. THe one we refer to is bethe one where you select your default voice, underneath the Voice label in the Speech section. At the bottom of that menu will be a Customize item which you select. In that dialog which will appear you'll find a table of voices. Best, Zack.
