I would wager a big part of your slowness problem is you’re still using rotating disks. These are 80 times slower than the latest SSD disks and will exhibit this kind of behavior. Just a guess but that’s what this problem feels like. > On Jan 17, 2017, at 11:36 AM, jeff `greene <greenebo...@gmail.com> wrote: > > Hi Tim and E.T., > I have my audio books library on a second hdd in my 2012 15-inch > macbook pro. Re: question for anybody with a 2016 macbook pro
Hi, If things haven't changed since my last check, even when you have it set to not copy to your iTunes Library, it will actually attempt the copy when importing from an external drive. If that drive happens to be a USB drive, then it will probably be quite slow on that machine as I believe that the ports on the 2012 MBP are USB 2 ports. I get around this issue on my home MacPro by placing the entire 3 TB iTunes Library on a separate drive, thus not using up space in my system drive. This may be more challenging when working with the MBP as you likely wish access to your iTunes Library without the need to carry around an external drive. There's probably something we could figure out, if needed though. Later... Just did this last night when I finished some Audiobook Builder projects, 10 gigs worth. Took about 5 minutes to copy to the Automatically Add folder then opened iTunes and it was done. Re: question for anybody with a 2016 macbook pro
Jeff, Any chance you have Apple Music service or iTunes match These services try to do a bit more with sound files when they are imported. Still I wouldn't think it would stall your entire system. I do notice with my corporate Macintosh, that it does not like me putting the system to sleep when I leave in the evening. I haven't completely figured it out, but if I use my Cisco VPN service and then try using the computer in a few hours where my WiFi connections have changed then the computer stalls for 20 seconds on application switch or when I request a menu be activated. When this happens only a reboot resolves my "pizza wheel" / Application busy messages. ? Best wishes, Jonathan > On Jan 16, 2017, at 1:07 PM, jeff `greenewrote: > > Hi Scott, Thanks for the info! Hi Jeff, How much RAM in your 2012 machine? I have a 2011 MBP with a home-made Fusion drive and 16 GB of RAM and do not experience the issues you're mentioning. I have upgraded a few of the 2012 models for colleagues and increased memory along with the SSD has made considerable differences in performance. Later... Re: question for anybody with a 2016 macbook pro
Hi there, I have a Mid 2015 with the full Terabyte of storage (SSD) and the 2.8 I7 quad core and it’s lightning fast. Virtual machines, disk access, moving data around the network, everything you would want it’s blazing fast. The wireless is also quite good. Smaller disk drives may be slower depending on how these are designed but for my configuration at least things are very very fast. > On Jan 15, 2017, at 9:52 PM, jeff `greenewrote: > > Hi I have a 2012 mbp with an ssd. question for anybody with a 2016 macbook pro
Hi I have a 2012 mbp with an ssd. I also have a very large audio book library. When adding to iTunes iTunes goes into a caniption fit and says busy for hours. So here's my question, with the 2016 mbp's having faster cpu's and ssd's does this still happen when importing a big folder of media into iTunes?
