Re: Safari question

Lol or Denzel Washington works in the Equalizer and beats up Russian bad guys
with building supplies.

Good times, especially in IMAX.

I’m more of a Lowes man myself but the home Depot is a good place.

Bringing this on topic they sell a lot of tech home goods now including the
Nest line of devices and the August locks that work with the iPhone. There’s a
whole home tech section now, dangerous area to walk through though, your
pockets end up lighter hanging out in that area to long. They also have a
surprising amount of higher end network cable and outlets.

hi,

Very interesting. Cool how we live in our own little worlds. There's no way
in the world that I thought an American resident would not be familiar with the
Home Depot. I guess that it's a matter of prospective and what circles we
involve ourselves in. Oh well, I digress. Regarding the Home Depot US site,
you are totally correct in that it does seem to hang Safari once the search
results are attempting to be displayed. The Home Depot Canadian version is a
little slow to load, but does work and is usable, but the US version seems to
hang indefinitely. The two things that I'd suggest would be first to try
searching in Google instead. That is, for example, if you were looking for a
freezer, type "freezer home depot" in your Google search field and see if going

Re: Safari question

2016-07-09 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
What type things are you searching for? Given that I've never ever heard of
this site, it would be useful to know what type things to search for
specifically.

Subject: Safari question

Hi all!
I am still running Yosemite and I've noticed that when I go to one web site
in particular safari is really slow.

It is the homedepot web site,
http://www.homedepot.com
There is a search box there that says what can we help you find and when I
enter text there it takes forever to do anything after that. I just
wondered if somebody might go there and try to search for something to see
if they get the same results. I might be forced to upgrade to El Capitan.

:)

I've tried using google chrome and it works pretty well but I don't seem to
be able to do option-tab to go to the search field. Maybe there is a
setting I need to take a look at.

Thanks for any help.
Jim

Either ctrl+Home, or if you don't have a physical home key on your keyboard,
then it's fn+VO+left arrow. Make sure that you're interacting with the html

Re: yosemite safari question

Use either cmd-up (new in Yosemite) or vo-home. On a laptop, that second one is
vo-fn-left. You may need to add shift to it, too; shift takes you to the top,
no shift takes you to the visible top. I don't normally notice a difference,
but if one fails to do what you're after, try the other. All that said, cmd-up
should work just fine.

Re: Safari question

2014-01-17 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

In case David’s message doesn’t read the punctuation to you, it is command-left
brace. This is the key just to the right of the letter “p”. These sort of
shortcuts can also be found within the menubar in the History menu. Note that
all regular keyboard shortcuts available to the sighted user are also available
to you as a VO user so take some time to explore the menu items and their
corresponding keyboard shortcut and this could make things easier for your web
navigation.

safari question

2013-11-11 Thread don bishop
Hi again,

This time a Safari question with Mavericks.
When I was running Mountain Lion and started Safari, it would come up with my
home page displaying. Now, under Mavericks, Safari just opens on the tool bar.
Is there a setting I can change to get the display of home page back again?
Thanks,
Don

Re: Safari question:

2012-09-06 Thread Chris Blouch
You can check the mail archives under my name for more details but the
short answer is that Adobe has chosen not to support using Flash with
voiceover. Flash has been problematic on all platforms but it is pretty
much unusable on OSX. Some flash widgets provide external HTML controls
such as video players but if you are being presented curriculum inside a
flash box then you're not going to get very far. Flash also fails on
most mobile devices as well and is entirely proprietary (as opposed to
web standards) so it's slowly going away, but apparently this vendor has
not noticed yet.

Hi guys. I've noticed this a few weeks ago when I bought my Skype
credit but didn't do anything because I thought it wouldn't crash
so much. But now that it's crashing more, this is ridiculous.
Skype keeps crashing when I use the dialpad in a call. For
example, I use Skype to call my bank. When I press the number 1
to check my balance and everything, Skype crashes. Has anyone

Re: safari question re heading navigation

2012-07-08 Thread CJ Daniel
Lisette,

As previously mentioned, the solution seems to lay in restarting VO &/or
occasionally Safari as well. This would seem to indicate a problem with VO
loosing track of the big picture. It is annoying, as well as a few other bugs
in Apple's accessible approach. But, it is cool to walk in to Best Buy & start
playing with the Macs, just like anyone else. So, for now, I'll go along, to
get along. Try Command-F5 On & off to let VO re-initialize it's little brain &
see how that works,

Hope this helps,

CJ

Re: safari question re heading navigation

2012-07-08 Thread Jürgen Fleger
That's an issue of VO, I suppose. Here it happens regularly. Sometimes it helps
just to restart VoiceOver and sometimes it's useful to restart Safari.

What for me is quite annoying in this context: it happens also in iTunes. VO
even jumps back to the first header of the store page even though there are mor
headlines. Already reported it to the support but no changes during last few
new versions of iTunes.

All the best
Jürgen

Hello Lisette,

I think that it has to do with the lay out of the web page. We have found that
if the headers do not show up in VO-U, then we try VO-I and you can find
details there.

safari question re heading navigation

2012-07-08 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi
I wonder if anybody can explain why, very often, safari reports there are no
next headings to be found, but when I continue to arrow right using quick nav,
I hear all sorts of headings listed. I thought that by pressing h, or the
number, it would jump to the next heading.
Sometimes, it works fine, and other times it doesn't. I presume it is something
to do with the way a website is coded, but I don't understand why Safari does
report them as you arrow along the page, but not when trying to jump to them.
As I say, in some sites it works fine, and in others it doesn't.
I don't know what mode I am in, or how to change this. Would this make a
difference? I still have so much to learn.

Lisette

Re: reading in text editing and safari question

2011-11-26 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Banu,

Often, the pauses when reading are due to new line characters. You can get rid
of the noises by opening VoiceOver Utility, going to the Verbosity category,
Text, and selecting DO Nothing for When text attributes change, When
encountering a misspelled word and ,When encountering a link. This should help.

As for your Safari problem, have you accidentally turned cursor tracking off?
VO-Shift-F3 toggles this action.

Cheers,

Anne

adjustment of it? it pauses and play tone. how can I read my scanned books?

and second question is about safari. I did something wrong. when I want to

Right,

Now downloads is like a pop up. When your downloading something, stop
interacting with the html content and go to the toolbar and interact. You will
find the download button in here. Press it and the familiar downloads window
will appear. I've set a hot spot on the download button to get to it quicker.

2011-04-08 Thread William Windels
Hello Sarai,
I don't know what you exactly mean but:
like you shave suggested, in group mode , it's mostly more easy to navigate
tables in safari.
And what about the checkboxes: there is a way in voiceover to search for: or
the same elementtype like the active element (control+option+command+s) or just
not the same (control+option+command+d).
Perhaps this can help.

Good luck,

Re: Tables in Safari Question

Hi Sarai,

When I've encountered these sorts of tables, I've often had to Interact With
the specific cell to activate the radio button. Toyota sends me surveys
occasionally and they work in the manner you're speaking of. Just navigating
across the cells does not tell you that there is a radio button or checkbox,
but Interacting With it usually does the trick.

Dear Sara,

I have encountered these tables taking customer surveys for Chase's online
banking system. It is cumbersome. What I have found helpful is the FIND NEXT
CONTROL command vo-command-j. this takes me to all the check boxes one at a
time. The other command is vo-F3. this command describes the item in the
voice over cursor. In this case whether or not the check box is checked or
not. I hope this helps.

Tables in Safari Question

2011-04-07 Thread Sarai Bucciarelli
All:
I could use help. I do these survays, and they are layed out in tables. You
have a table with several columns, and you have to select your answers. For
example:
How often do you use the following products? Then you have a table with several
columns. Column 1 will have a list of products in each row, I.E. tooth brush
would be row 1, column 1. Makeup would be row 2, column 1, dogfood row 3,
column 1. The other columns would have titles like daily, once a week, once a
month, never. Each row in these columns would have check boxes or radio
buttons, and you check the box corosponding to each product.
With Jaws, I'd press alt control right arrow, and alt control up and down to
navigate by columns and rows. I could check the appropriat check boxes.
I'm having problems on the Mac. I've tried this in DOM, and Group navigation
mode. I can navigate the tables, read each column and row header; however I
cannot check the checkboxes/radio buttons. The other rows appear blank; however
if I press vo u to bring up a list of input controls, I see a bunch of check
boxes, or radio buttons, so they are on the page. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: safari question

2011-01-17 Thread Mike Arrigo
Hi, the best way to deal with this is to go to the view menu and disable book
marks. Actually, at least for me, a common practice is to go to the view menu
in all my applications and hide as much as possible, such as tool bars, book
mark bars, etc. It's extra clutter to navigate through, and can sometimes draw
the focus away from the main area of the application.

Re: a Safari question

2010-11-30 Thread Jonathan Cohn
If you hit the webspot create option sequence twice, this is supposed
to set up such a point but I have had little luck with it personally.
I generally will look for something searchable, or use the headings.
If there is common text right before where you want to be, and search
for it with VO-F, then VO-G will find that text again. There is also
a numpad commander shortcut key for repeating a search.

Best,

Jon

Bookmarks Bar in Safari [was Re: Safari question and first post from Mac]

2010-06-26 Thread Esther

Hello Alfredo,

Yes, you can have a bookmark folder that you create appear on the
Safari bookmarks bar, if you have your browser set to display this.
The fastest way to create a folder on the Bookmarks Bar, assuming you
start with a completely empty setup, would be to press Command-Option-
B to "Show All Bookmarks", then to navigate to the "Bookmarks Bar".
You can use item chooser (VO-I) to go to "Bookmarks Bar" in the table
of bookmark collections. (Note: there's both a "Bookmarks Bar" and a
"Bookmarks Menu" in the table.) Then, tab past the "search text field"
to the table that lists contents of your selected bookmark collection
and interact. Create a new folder with Command-Shift-N. After you've
created your folders and bookmarks, use Command-Option-B again to
"Hide All Bookmarks" -- that key sequence is a toggle. It's also the
first command in the "Bookmarks" menu on the menu bar, if you use the
menu bar instead of keyboard shortcuts. You'll also find the commands
to "Add Bookmark" (Command-D) and "Add Bookmark Folder" (Command-Shift-
N) if you arrow down through the Bookmarks menu on the Safari menu
bar. To add the present page as a bookmark, use Command-D, and then
type in a name (or use the default) in the dialog window. VO-Space on
the pop up button for where to save the bookmark, and select the
"Bookmarks Bar". General bookmarks management, searching, etc. is
done by toggling on "Show All Bookmarks", which shows you a special
web page for managing your bookmarks. The reason for not simply using
Command-Shift-N to create a new folder is that it creates a new folder
of bookmarks in your bookmark collections -- it does NOT create a
folder under the Bookmarks bar, which is what you were asking for.
You have to navigate to select the folder you want in the bookmarks
collection in order to create subfolders there.

To read more about bookmarks and there organization, you can read my
post from last month in response to a question about moving and
deleting bookmarks:

http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg21962.html

Cheers,

Esther

or in the regular menus for Safari.

Hi Dave, in most cases, you should be able to VO-shift-M on a link, and
go to the download linked file option in that contextual menu. On Thu,

Safari Question

2009-11-12 Thread David McLean

Hello, Is there a way to save an mp3 file that a link points at in Safari
instead of opening it when the link is clicked?

In Windows of course you can go to save target but how is this accomplished on
the mac?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm guessing there would be some kind of tool to do this or some code.
you may wanna search live journal to investigate more.

Can you set Xjournal or something to upload to your own domain? I
never thought about posting a blog on my own domain, and I'm really
not sure why. I use LiveJournal, now:

if anyone cares. Maybe it'd get people coming to my domain,

I've been having the same issue, hope someone can answer it. some of
the widgets are really good. and before some kind of update on
wordpress's part, this feature was pretty accessible.

A wordpress and safari question for all bloggers out there

2009-08-09 Thread Krister Ekstrom

Hi good knowledgable people out in Mac land.
I'm trying to set up a blog on my domain and i'm thinking about using
widgets on it. My question to you is how do you activate wordpress
widgets using Safari? The instructions say to drag/drop widgets onto
the side bar of the theme in Wordpress to activate them, but umm, i
can't find the sidebars so how do people do this with Safari and
Voiceover?
TIA
/Krister
