Re: shaedia over a network?

2012-10-07 Thread Alex Hall
Well, I hadn't realized that was there. It looks like, until I can get
networked storage, this should work. I'll have to see how to access it on other
machines, but that should be easy enough.

So does the iTunes sharing not do what you want? Go into Preferences and
then Sharing. You can can choose to share your entire library. Then any
machine on your network can find your library in iTunes and play stuff
from it.

shaedia over a network?

2012-10-07 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I have a mini in my room which is my personal computer, and has all my media.
I'd like to share this media on the network so that the mac downstairs can play
it, without having to copy and update the files to the second mac. Both use
iTunes as their media player, but the downstairs mac is used by three people,
each with their own apple ID, so I can't just put my library on the downstairs
one with my account since I might not be the one who wants to listen. So, what
is the best solution? Of course, ideally we would go buy a new router, one with
NAS support, but those are kind of expensive, so what do people recommend until
then? Thanks.
