Re: should I upgrade from Mac OS catalina to big sur?
Braille display support improved significantly with Big Sur (i.e., some bugs were apparently fixed). In particular, it is less likely to skip text while panning the display. If this matters to you, then it's a reason to upgrade. I am not significantly affected by any of the bugs that have been reported, so there is little to contend with on the negative side for my particular use cases. Hi everybody. Thanks for all the feedback everybody. I think I'll hold off for now at least especially after what you noted Jonathan as I was not aware of that fact. I don't run anything 32 bit anymore but thanks kare for pointing that out as that is a valid concern. Cameron. On 3/26/21, Jonathan C. Cohn wrote: > there is a major new limitation with Bigsur. there is a major new limitation with Bigsur. All non apple kernal extensions are blocked. So for example if there is dedicated dacs that require kernal code to work than a new driver from the manufaturer would be required. The other major change is that the entire core of the OS is in a read only signed partition. So updates to /usr/bin are now essentially impossible. should I upgrade from Mac OS catalina to big sur?
Hi everybody. As far as general computer use and audio production, are there any issues with big sur? I'm wondering if I should upgrade or just hang tight with catalina for now. I have the latest versions of Logic pro, ProTools, Waves diamond v12, NI komplete ultimate 12, and Omnisphere 2. Other than those, I use iwork, Switch audio file converter, and a few other things. I guess I'm looking for a pros and cons list? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Cameron. -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list.
