If you are talking about the PDT pacific daylight time which I believe is the
UsA's west coast then try lA or san Francisco
Someone in the usa could confirm that for you,

I live in new Zealand which is in the south pacific but we're GMT +12 if I
remember correctly at this time so it really depends on what you mean by
pacific time.the pacific ocean is a bloody big area.

Re: world time clock

2020-04-21 Thread Michael Busboom
Hello Jürgen,

I grew up in the States but have lived all of my adult life in Austria. There
is a nine-hour time difference for much of the year between Central Europe and
the West Coast of the US. While I always do the conversion in my head, it is
easy to just ask Siri what time it is in Seattle, Washington or Los Angeles,
California, for that matter.

Take care,

Mike

2020-04-21 Thread Brad Snyder
The Clock app on an iPhone contains a World Clock feature.
Open the Clock app, and select World Clock from the tabs along the bottom of
the screen.
Select Add in the upper right corner of the World clock screen to add a
location.
Cities you may want to select include Los Angeles, San Francisco or Seattle,
among many others in the US Pacific time zone.

Re: world time clock

2020-04-21 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
I've not done time conversions on my Mac, but this kind of feature is a
common need for anyone working with colleagues around the globe.

I'd be very surprised if this was difficult to accomplish this on Apple.
I know my Android Clock app allows me to quickly see current time any of
dozens of world cities. I get to choose the ones I want at the top of my
list.

It's also an important feature when traveling internationally.

There's also this very useful web service:

https://TimeAndDate.com

PS: Germany is generally 9 hours ahead of U.S. pacific Time, so 9:00 AM
in San Francisco will be 18:00 in Berlin.

Good luck!

2020-04-21 Thread maurice mines
Just for everyone in the group’s information, I tried sending this out a couple
minutes ago with the wrong email address, so here are my comments as a
forwarded message. I hope this helps?

A question for the group in mail, if there any way to set a default descendent
from email address so that the issue that prompted me to write this forwarded
message in the first place doesn’t occur again.

A completely separate second issue this machine is nearing the end of its
useful life, it has a potentially swelling battery. So if it advisable to do
the following? Shut the machine down at the end of the major part of the day
that requires me to use the machine. Leave seven machine unplugged overnight.
Should I be doing anything else?

I will certainly keep Time Machine backups, and of course make use of when
cloned to backup my Boot Camp partition. I’m told it could be 8 to 10 weeks
before the new machine arrives. Things are moving much slower than they were in
the past because of the obvious current situation.

Re: world time clock

2020-04-21 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
In the Mac OS terminal, set the TZ variable and then run the date command, for
example:
TZ=US/Pacific date
Which will show you the date and time in the specified time zone. The time
zones are in the /usr/share/zoneinfo directory.

This is a well known solution that has worked on UNIX systems for a long time.

Jason makes a useful suggestion. I've been doing this forever on my
various machines. in fact I find this approach so useful that I've
defined a host of aliases to give me current time in key time zones
around the planet. These are automatically loaded when I open a terminal
session. Here are just a few examples:

alias pst="env TZ=US/Pacific date" #Pacific Time
alias hst="env TZ=HST date" #Hawaii
alias nzt="env TZ=Pacific/Auckland date" #New Zealand
alias act="env TZ=Australia/ACT date" #Sydney
alias wst="env TZ=Australia/Perth date" #Perth
alias jst="env TZ=Japan date" #Japan
alias prc="env TZ=PRC date" #China
alias ist="env TZ=Israel date" #Israel
alias msk="env TZ=Europe/Moscow date" #Moscow
alias cet="env TZ=CET date" #Central European
