[maemo-developers] New 2006 software version on tuesday?

2006-05-14 Thread Nils Faerber
Hi!
German Heise IT newsticker just had a quite confusing report about the
new 2006 edition of the software (the article even suggests that there
will be new hardware announced!?).
They claim that the new 2006 software edition will be announced next
Tuesday.

Is that correct?
Will there be corresponding donwloads on Tuesday too?

I have to admit that I almost cannot await it ;)

Cheers
  nils faerber

The old media had a saying: verify, verify, verify. It seems that
every news-site is copying the original post without checking.

Same here! Can't wait for another developer discount ;)

[maemo-developers] libcairo in maemo

2006-05-14 Thread Hans J. Koch
Hi,
I'd like to write an application that uses libcairo. To make it clearer, I
want to use libcairo directly, I don't need GTK with libcairo support!

Did anybody compile libcairo for the 770?
Is it possible? Any other hints?

Cheers,
Hans

[maemo-developers] gstreamer 0.10

2006-05-14 Thread cmonst

Hi!

I would like to know if I install gstreamer 0.10 (from gstreamer.org)
on Nokia 770 will dsp sink plugins work with this gstreamer version?
(ie. plugins from 0.8 gstreamer, because I think that there is no dsp
sinks in official gstreamer release). Are anywhere avilable packages
or sources of gstreamer 0.10 with dsp support for 770???
This issue is very important for me.

Yes, it is already pretty horrid when the media refers to the 770 with the name
Espoo. I also doubt that any Nokia people here would be willing to comment on
these rumours - this kind of information seems to go via high-level official
channels. It is quite likely that the most productive course of action is to
just wait until Tuesday :-)

Take care,
Risto

Cairo can be compiled in the SDK quite well. It just doesn't perform
all that well on the device. I tested it a bit some time ago, and
didn't get too engouraging results. My benchmarking app was not too
optimized though, and I now am pretty sure it didn't relfect the
actual Cairo performance so I think it's worth a shot to try it.
Specially since the latest Cairo should perform much better than the
one I tested it with.

It all depends how performance-critical your app is really.
