And what would be the goal of such garage project? Isn't enough to file

Smart News Reader for GSOC-maemo

2009-03-29 Thread GAO FENG
Hi, all:

I have proposed a project named " Smart News Reader on N800/N810" on
the maemo project list. And now I finished my proposal, you can view it on
my homepage, the url is :
http://sites.google.com/site/derkaisersfunnygsoclife/

you can also find some additional information on it.

The abstract of my proposal :

Current news reader/RSS reader on mobile devices doesn’t take mobile
environment feature and personal special interest into account. The main
goal of this project is to add some intelligent features into the reader
system then it can recommend or filter news information according to users’
interest, user’s environment and even it can smartly store and download
information according to the situation of network and storage of the
Internet Tablet. It would be in linked context-aware and semantic technique
to reach the goal.

Please feel free to make comment on my proposal, thanks.

One of the reasons why I suggested him to take a look at twitpic. Also,
since canola works with plugins, extending it is basically a question of
whether there are people interested in using such extensions and people
willing to develop them :P

Twitter is available on maemo via the mauku application. On an
unrelated note, a blogging plugin for a media player seems an odd

I also tried to listen to the dbus myself which only started to work
after I added this line in my SDL applications main loop:

  dbus_connection_read_write_dispatch(dbusCon, 0);

and when that worked it also made by registered callback being called.

Re: Twitter application for canola2 as a gsoc project

2009-03-29 Thread Luis Felipe Strano Moraes
Hi,

we would be definitely interested in the application. Try coming by
on #canola on irc.freenode.net to chat. Also, try to research into
other clients that have been written in python already, or if there is
a twitter library of some kind already done.
Ideally applicants would already know python, but if you don't and
can learn quickly, that wouldn't be that much of a problem (specially
if you are already familiar with MVC and things like that). One way
to show that you can learn quickly would be to contribute a patch
to canola, try to find a bug or something simple that you'd like to
change on canola or the plugins and seeing if you can find your way
around the source code.

There is a mailing list for Canola (though it hasn't been actively used
quite yet, discussing tihs would be a good way to start :P):
https://garage.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/canola-devel

Twitter application for canola2 as a gsoc project

2009-03-29 Thread kasun herath
Hi all,

I am interested in doing a twitter application for canola 2 as a Google
Summer code project 2009. I downloaded canola2 and looked at addons
and I could not find any twitter application.

I did some research into this and it seems like we would only require,
simplejson module as a dependency to such an application. Would you be
interested
in this project idea? Please note that I have extensive desktop application
development experience on Java but not on python. So it would be learning
not only PyMaemo
and canola2 but also Python for me in the process of doing the project.

cheers
Kasun Herath.
