Maintenance of ported apps
Im very interested in porting apps to Maemo but I have concerns about the long-term maintenance of the apps. Porting a GTK app to Maemo requires some significant chznges, so what happens when a newer version of the GTK app appears? Will in need to be ported 'again'? Should changes for Maemo be merged back upstream? If so, Im assuming there are compiler flags that can be used for preprocessing code for Maemo and non-Maemo platforms? rx-51 xkb file: how does FOUR_LEVEL type work?
My understanding of xkb configuration files is that the type FOUR_LEVEL,
or its variants FOUR_LEVEL_ALPHABETIC and FOUR_LEVEL_SEMIALPHABETIC, allow
for programming characters at the 4th level. For example, the following
definition of my US keyboard,

Ought to give me bracket chars when pressing Fn + Shift... but such is not
the case. The definitions behave rather as type THREE_LEVEL. The only
exception being when the character slotted at the 3rd level can be
shifted, in which case the upercase version of the char is output.
I tried using the type FOUR_LEVEL_SEMIALPHABETIC but no change.
Is there a problem as to how I am interpreting the use of the LEVEL
types... or is it the case that the hildon layer code is enforcing this
observed THREE_LEVEL behaviour?

Hi, me too. All my projects are also built for chinook and i even still have an n800 running chinook for testing reasons. If chinook is officially be retired, i'll just flash my n800 to diablo and forget about chinook. I am fine with that. It provides You exactly what You want... the only problem is that it is in pure C. You can add alarm and forget about QTimer etc. Device could be even boot up on You alarm if that is a behaviour You would like to get (and device was switched off before Your alarm;) ). It should not be to hard to use this library in Qt code. Furthermore, You can check another library provided by Nokia - libtime (http://maemo.org/api_refs/5.0/5.0-final/clockd/). It allows You to communicate with clockd which is responsible for maintaining time on the device. clockd daemon also sends D-Bus signal (http://maemo.org/api_refs/5.0/5.0-final/clockd/libtime_8h.html just at the top of the page :) ) after time was changed by the user or time was synchronized and changed to different GMT offset (this is not working with every GSM network though).
