Have you looked at what the Ubuntu guys are doing? They want to have a
cross between synaptic, their current Application Install, and
gnomefiles.org The main aim is for people to be able to see better
descriptions, screenshots and user reviews before they choose to
install.

I did, but it doesn't have * (no password) but !, which usually
means Real password is somewhere that non-root can't read. And
passwd- can't be read ...

Crackjack on the /etc/passwd file ;-)

Which is why I say the root password is simple. :-)

But the user password is elsewhere (passwd- ?) and they way that the
busybox su works, and the way that sudo is configured, mean that
there's no immediately obvious way for the root password to be of much
help.

Plucker runs but I can't seem to open any books.

Also, I thought I saw mention that the knoppix-installer should work
with this CD? I gave it a go, but the install hangs after some errors
trying to copy stuff in scratchbox/users/knoppix/proc

I think that for true OTG you also need a mini-AB that can detect which
end of the lead is plugged in. And if Nokia really didn't intend this
thing to ever be in host mode, there might not be a charge pump fitted.

But most of this can be worked around.
