Installing and starting dropbear is usually not a big problem, being able to
connect to it is a different story.

It does not work for me if I just connect to the WLAN connection. I have to
open a browser window for example in order for the connection to
get "activated". Only after this I can ssh

Also sometimes the ssh connections freeze up. I have to disconnect from the
WLAN, then re-connect and open a browser window again in order to "unfreeze"
my existing SSH connections or establish new ones.

Is there any way around this?

There should be a script in /etc/init.d/

  /etc/init.d/dropbear stop

> * to restart the server: (only way?) reboot device

  /etc/init.d/dropbear start

Or the current Debian ARM port.

Ok much thanks; summying up:

* after installing "dropbear_0.48-0.1_armel.deb" it starts automatically

* to stop the server: (only way?) kill process

* to restart the server: (only way?) reboot device

* packages ending with _arm are (always?) for IT2005

* packages ending with _armel are (always?) for IT2006

* http://maemo.org/maemowiki/InstallSsh: maybe this page should at least
include somewhere that it is written for IT2005

That's for the old IT2005 software version.

I do not know, but I expect the server to be started automatically. If
I am right, then you can stop it by getting root access in a terminal
and running /etc/init.d/dropbear-server stop, but it will be restarted
on the next reboot.

Yes.

Those are for the IT2005 OS version, they won't work on OS2006 (the
filenames end in _arm.deb instead of _armel.deb).

[maemo-developers] how to start dropbear server

2006-09-13 Thread Antonio Orlando
I've installed the package "dropbear_0.48-0.1_armel.deb" from
http://www.komputika.net/maemo/with the App manager, the associated short
description says it is a "SSH server and client".

Then, reading from:

http://maemo.org/maemowiki/InstallSsh#openssh

it says that the dropbear server can be started with the command:

/var/lib/install/etc/init.d/dropbear-server start

...but I can't see that file. I see a file "dropbear" instead. But, it
supposes I've installed separately a dropbear client and a dropbear
server, maybe they are another version. So I ask: how can I start the
dropbear server, considering I've installed the package from
komputika.net? And how to stop it?

Are there any corrections to be made on that page of the maemo wiki
considering there is this dropbear package on komputika around? Or was it
better to install the packages on http://nohar.nerim.net/n770 ?
