Last time I looked, the point of Java was that it was platform
independent.

You can use image-creator to create your own image and the developpment
environment.
Here is a guideline:

Ubuntu have released some alpha stage images, but I can't remember the URL
now.

They use also the framework hildon :)

But the purpose isn't the same, it s more for larger screen device, with more 
powerfull cpu, but less battery.
